West Craft Fest returns as a spring event featuring art and performance

West Craft Fest returns to Philadelphia this month, giving arts and crafts enthusiasts a chance to peruse the work of local creators.

The event, to be held at The Woodlands in University City on Saturday, April 27, will feature live music and more than 100 vendors selling a variety of original pieces, including jewelry, clothing, and paintings. The 54-acre space has hosted West Craft Fest regularly in the spring and fall since 2012.

This will be the first Spring West Craft Fest since 2022 as the April 2023 event has been cancelled. The event is held at The Woodlands in September, and the holiday season is also held at the Rotunda each December.

One of the staples of West Craft Fest is Tiny Circus, an acrobatic performance by the all-female group Tangle Movement Arts.

West Craft Fest was founded in 2009 by Wilder and Mike Scott Straight, along with shop owner Emily Dorn. The event was originally called “Go West! Craft Fest,” but in 2018 the founders received comments and concerns about the association of the word “Go West” with settler and colonization. Ta.

Applications for the vendor, which is typically made up of Philadelphia creators, or West Philadelphia creators, closed last month. Organizers say they received nearly 300 applications and a complete list of vendors is available online.

April West Craft Fest is the only event in The Woodlands this year, according to event organizers.

The rain date is Sunday, April 28th. Please plan to walk, cycle or use public transport as cars are not allowed at the venue during the event.

ChatGPT can create attacks based on chip vulnerabilities — GPT-4 model tested by UIUC computer scientists

OpenAI’s GPT-4 model is consistently better and faster at exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities than human experts. Academics argue that this skill is a recent addition to the wheelhouse of AI models, but will only improve further over time.

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) recently published a paper on this use case. There, we pitted several large-scale language models (LLMs) against each other in the field of exploiting security vulnerabilities. Given an exploit description from CVE, a public database of common security issues, GPT-4 successfully attacked 87% of the vulnerabilities tested. All other language models tested (GPT-3.5, OpenHermes-2.5-Mistral-7B, Llama-2 Chat (70B), etc.) and dedicated vulnerability scanners are unable to exploit the provided vulnerability even once. did.

LLM was given “one-day” vulnerabilities (so-called because they were so dangerous that they needed to be patched the day after they were discovered) to test. Cybersecurity experts and exploit hunters have built their entire careers around finding (and fixing) one-day vulnerabilities. So-called white hat hackers are hired by companies as penetration testers to outwit malicious agents looking for vulnerabilities to exploit.

Fortunately for humanity, GPT-4 was only able to attack known vulnerabilities (described in CVE). When identifying and exploiting bugs, LLM had a success rate of only 7%. In other words, anyone who can craft a good ChatGPT prompt doesn’t have the key to the hacking apocalypse (yet). That being said, GPT-4 remains a unique concern as it not only has a theoretical understanding of the vulnerability, but also the ability to autonomously execute the steps to execute the exploit through an automation framework.

And unfortunately for humanity, GPT-4 is already ahead of us in the exploitation race. Assuming that a cybersecurity professional is paid $50 an hour, the paper states, “Using an LLM agent, [to exploit security vulnerabilities] It already costs 2.8 times more than human labor. LLM agents are also easily scalable, as opposed to human labor. ” The paper also estimates that future LLMs, such as his upcoming GPT-5, will be further enhanced in these capabilities, and perhaps even further enhanced in discovery skills. This is sobering considering that vulnerabilities like Specter and Meltdown still have a place in the minds of the technology industry.

As AI continues to be used, the world will continue to change irrevocably. OpenAI specifically asked the paper’s authors not to publish the prompts used in this experiment. The authors agreed and said they would publish the prompts “only upon request.”

AI queries put a lot of strain on your environment, so be careful when trying to replicate this (or anything) yourself in ChatGPT. A single ChatGPT request costs nearly 10 times more than a Google search. If you are familiar with this energy difference and want to operate LLM yourself, here is how an enthusiast ran his AI chatbot on her NAS.

54 Craft & Co replaces Wichita’s Green Mill restaurant.

The new 54 Craft 7 Co. in Wichita will be similar to JC Craft & Co., which operates inside a Marriott hotel in West Des Moines, owners said.Chad Jackson Photos

For years, the Green Mill Restaurant at the Holiday Inn at Locke and Kellogg in Wichita has been a reliable place for hotel guests to grab pizza and for Wichita residents to enjoy a holiday buffet.

However, the hotel restaurant closed sometime last year after being open for more than 20 years.

Now, a new concept is expanding into that space. Later this week, crews will begin a “major renovation project” to turn the old Green Mill into a restaurant called 54 Craft & Co. Will Harrington is director of operations for Quinces Hospitality Companies, which owns the Holiday Inn at 549 S. Rock Road. — said construction will be completed this summer.

54 Craft & Co is named after Highway 54, also known as Kellogg, which the hotel overlooks. The restaurant offers a “homemade cooking experience.”

[image error] Green Mill operated at the Holiday Inn at Kellogg and Locke for more than 20 years.courtesy

“The atmosphere and menu will be very different from the old Green Mill,” Harrington said.

When complete, 54 Craft & Co. will be similar to other hotel restaurants the company has recently opened in Iowa. One of them, JC Craft & Co. at the Marriott Hotel in West Des Moines, serves entrees like grilled porterhouse chops, chicken paillard over sautéed vegetables, and pan-seared salmon. It offers. We also offer sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips, pizza and flatbreads.

Another new Kinseth restaurant is located in Iowa City and is called Vue Rooftop. Part of the Hilton Garden Inn, the restaurant offers a menu similar to JC Craft & Co., including steak, chicken and seafood dishes, as well as burgers, sandwiches and shareable appetizers. Both restaurants also have bars offering craft cocktails, beer, wine, martinis, and more.

[image error] Kellogg & Locke’s Green Mill restaurant space will soon be replaced by a more luxurious location: Photo provided by 54 Craft & Co.

The Quinses also plan to open a restaurant called KC Craft & Co. at the Holiday Inn at 8787 Reeder St. in Overland Park, which is expected to open several weeks before the Wichita restaurant.

Harrington said 54 Craft & Co. in Wichita has a special surprise in store.

“While we can’t go into details yet, we’re excited to add to the menu some classic favorites from another restaurant chain that exited the Wichita market more than a decade ago,” he said.

[image error] Bennigan’s On the Fly is a “ghost kitchen” concept likely coming to Wichita. Some of the restaurant’s favorites are available for delivery or take-out, including the famous Monte Cristo sandwich.Provided photo

That restaurant is almost certainly Benegins. Not only does the Kinses own Bennigan’s Restaurants in Urbandale and Clear Lake, Iowa, but the official Bennigan’s Restaurant website lists “Bennigan’s on the Fly” in the “Coming Soon” section. , the address listed there (549 S. Rock Road) is the same as the Holiday Inn.

Bennigan’s On the Fly is a virtual kitchen concept that the chain is also expanding into hotels. Mr. Kinseth has opened two virtual kitchens in Iowa: Bennigan’s On the Fly (he has one in Coralville and one in Dubuque). At these two of his businesses, Bennigan’s food is only available for delivery and takeout. The menu includes Bennigan’s famous Monte Cristo sandwich and Turkey O’Toole sandwich.

The Kinses also appear to be poised to open Bennigan’s on the Fly inside the KC Craft & Co. restaurant in Overland Park.

Wichita was once home to a Bennigan’s restaurant at 111 S. Rock Road, which closed in 2008 after nearly 25 years in business.

“We’ll have more to share as we get closer to completion and begin planning for our grand opening celebration,” said Harrington, who is based in Wichita.

How to make a PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox with Infinite Craft

By now, we all know that there’s literally so much stuff to make in Infinite Craft that you don’t have time to look at it. In continuing series, I like to group similar items together, as some of the initial crafting blocks are often the same. Considering how much we all love Readwrite Gaming, today feels like a good day to make a current-gen console.

Next week, we might find a way to do industry layoffs in Infinite Craft to complete the set.

How to make an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo SwitchXbox

Well, let’s start by making ourselves an Xbox. Later he makes some games exclusive to Xbox, and after a while he can also make them for other consoles (oh, that’s a salty satire of video games, you can’t tell me this).

To get an Xbox, you also need Microsoft and games. Let’s get cracking.

Earth + Earth = Mountain Mountain + Wind = Avalanche Avalanche + Avalanche = Snow Snow + Wind = Blizzard Earth + Wind = Dust Dust + Earth = Planet Planet + Fire = Sun Sun + Fire = Sun Sun + Planet = System Blizzard + System = Window System + System = Universe Windows + Universe = Microsoft System + Fire = Computer Computer + System = Software Software + Earth = Game Microsoft + Game = Xbox

playstation

Some parts, such as the system, are already available just by following the above. Now let’s make ourselves a PlayStation.

Fire + Water = Steam Steam + Fire = Engine Earth + Fire = Lava Lava + Water = Stone Engine + Stone = Steamroller Steamroller + Earth = Flat Earth Flat Earth + Wind = Frisbee Frisbee + Earth = Disc Disc + System = PlayStation

nintendo switch

Then build your Switch to complete the trilogy. Joy-con drift is optional. Once again, you will need the system from the Xbox creation above. This section also creates Super Mario and WiiU.

Fire + Wind = Smoke Smoke + Water = Fog Earth + Water = Plants Fog + Plants = Mushrooms Water + Wind = Waves Waves + Waves = Tsunami Tsunami + Mushroom = Mario Mario + Mushroom = Super Mario Super Mario + Wind = Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. + Dust = Nintendo Nintendo + System = Switch Nintendo + Frisbee = Wii Wii + Switch = Wii U Wii U + Switch = Nintendo Switch

Here are the top 50 producing craft breweries in America for 2023

Santa Rosa, California – February 7: A customer at Russian River Brewing Company takes a sip of the new brew. [+] launched Pliny the Younger Triple IPA beer on February 7, 2014 in Santa Rosa, California. before opening hours at Russian River Brewing Company to taste the 10th release of the wildly popular Pliny the Younger Triple IPA beer, available only on tap from February 7th to February 20th. Hundreds of people lined up. Craft beer enthusiasts rate Pliny the Younger as one of the world’s top beers. The craft beer sector of the beverage industry is rapidly evolving from a niche market as global breweries continue to acquire smaller regional craft breweries, including AB InBev’s acquisition of New York’s Blue Point Brewing this week. It has become a growing $12 billion business. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

The Brewers Association (BA), the industry group representing small and independent craft brewers in the United States, announced Tuesday in its annual Craft Beer Industry Production Report that it lists the top 50 craft beer producers in 2023. was nominated.

BA defines a craft brewery as a “small, independent brewery”. To qualify, the brewery must produce no more than 6 million barrels of beer annually, and less than 25% of the brewery can be owned or controlled by members of the beverage alcohol industry that do not qualify as a craft brewery. is. That means major companies like Anheuser-Busch, Molson Coors and Pabst are ineligible.

Unsurprisingly, topping the list of top-producing craft breweries in 2023 is Pennsylvania’s GG Yuengling & Son, followed by Boston Beer Company, maker of Sam Adams. However, both are well-known, high-volume breweries.

One of the standout companies on this year’s list is Athletic Brewing, maker of non-alcoholic beer and seltzer. It came in at No. 10 on the list, ahead of popular breweries like Allagash, Deschutes, and Three Floyds.

“Non-alcoholic [beer] Early indicators suggest that 2024 will continue to be a strong year,” Bart Watson, vice president of strategy and chief economist at the Brewers Association, told reporters during a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

The number of U.S. craft breweries continues to grow in 2023, reaching an all-time high of 9,683, including 2,071 craft breweries, 3,467 brewpubs, 3,900 taproom breweries, and 245 regional craft breweries.

The total number of U.S. breweries also includes year-over-year growth, from 9,730 in 2022 to 9,812 in 2023.

A total of 496 new breweries opened and 418 closed during the calendar year.

Looking at the top 50 list, Watson said: As of now, this list hasn’t changed much from year to year. ”

One of the patterns Watson noted is the emergence of groups.

“Craft brewers look to partner, join, and acquire to achieve scale, or seek out larger partners if they are struggling,” Watson said. I think it will expand further.”

In 2019, craft beer darling Dogfish Head was acquired by Sam Adam’s Boston Beer Company for that very reason.

At the time, Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione said: “This merger will allow Dogfish Head and our colleagues to continue to grow within this definition. [craft beer] It will continue for many years to come. ”

Watson pointed out that some of the breweries that ranked lower on the list were all geographically focused.

“Many of them have been successful in part by focusing on draft. There are still plenty of draft opportunities for breweries that have made that a strategic focus,” he points out.

The top breweries by volume also have a coastal focus, with the majority of breweries on the list located on the West Coast or Northeast.

2023 Awards | Best Safety Landing Craft – Island Guardian – Norman R. Wright and Sons

Developed by Queensland’s renowned Norman R. Wright and Sons, this fast and truly versatile vessel has a variety of roles. It is a combination of patrol vessels, landing craft, low-pax ferries, research vessels and general work vessels for Australia’s Great Barrier Reef Joint Field Management Program.

An aluminum catamaran, it is fast, relatively economical, seaworthy and safe. This is a great example of the imagination and innovation that Leitz is known for worldwide.

“What makes this vessel special is its versatility and capability,” Tony Leake, managing director of Norman R. Wright & Sons (NRW), told Baird Maritime. Ta. “This specification calls for high-speed (i.e. up to 25 knots) transport in rough seas carrying up to 7.5 tonnes of deck cargo, including vehicles such as 4x4s, trailers and excavators, and up to 24 personnel. The ability to land and deploy on remote shores of varying slopes and adverse conditions.”

Riek said the ship’s specifications also call for amenities to accommodate up to seven people for 10 days at a time, two rigid inflatable boats (RIBs), two deck cranes, diving equipment, and a freezing room. He added that it is perfect for multi-day trips and trips. Research in more remote areas of the Great Barrier Reef.

“A particular challenge in both design and manufacturing was the bi-fold lamp, which provides a critical function on the vessel. An integrated nacelle was incorporated to

“The articulation and controls took into account the requirements to support a variety of landing sites (some leading to the ocean) and vehicle types, as well as the release of marine life (such as turtles) weighing up to 600 kg from the seabed. Then, a huge amount of design work was required to fully expand the ramp at sea.”

Leake said design work on the vessel was subcontracted, resulting in a design that was manufactured to the highest quality by aluminum contractor Lemark. Lamp work remains a team effort, and the lesson learned is that achieving a satisfactory result requires the involvement of all parties: client, designer, subcontractors, and suppliers. was.

Mr Leake said Australia’s workboat industry was being affected by increasing customer demand for versatility in the vessels they operated.

“I have already been in touch with workboat operators (particularly in the compliance/regulatory space) asking for smarter designs that are more versatile. We are considering replacing it with a new ship.”

Another trend Riek has noticed is related to the inability to recruit crew members, especially crew members. One of the consequences of this, he said, is the trend toward vessel automation and unmanned vessels, or “crew reduction.” In response, NRW is currently building an unmanned surface vessel (USV) to carry out surveillance operations on the Great Barrier Reef.

“We also work with clients who are ‘aggressively raising the bar’ on their work vessels by improving the quality of amenities and facilities to attract crew members to their organizations,” Leake said at Baird. told Maritime. “Certainly, this aligns well with our strategy to bring a high level of quality to the workboat industry.

Riek said the biggest noticeable trend was the push to decarbonize shipping, but there was certainly little discussion with customers on this topic.

“We have already discussed the electrification strategy for passenger ferries, but for work vessels in general, the possible solutions are less clear-cut. Our immediate strategy to address this problem is to It’s all about designing and building with performance in mind.

In Riek’s view, a good hull design based on rigorous processes and tests, combined with an optimized use of lightweight materials and construction, results in high efficiency, in some cases up to 50% better than similar vessels. This will lead to consistent delivery of ships. There is little impact on project costs.

“These efficiencies translate into lower operating costs and lower emissions over the life of the vessel and should form a baseline before investigating/introducing alternative power strategies.”
