Hands-on design at OMA

Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) is proud to announce “Allied Craftsmen: Hands On Design,” an exhibition that redefines the boundaries of contemporary craft.

The juried showcase, on display at the museum through August 18, features work from Allied Craftsmen of San Diego, Southern California’s oldest professional organization for craft artists.

Allied Craftsmen: Practical Design – Combining Tradition and Innovation

The exhibition aims to highlight the extraordinary materials, technical mastery and creative vitality that characterize the group, and foster a deeper appreciation of contemporary craft within and beyond the community.

Allied Craftsmen: Hands On Design is at the intersection of tradition and innovation. The exhibition aims to connect local communities with the rich traditions and future possibilities of craft and demonstrate the role of craft in shaping a better world.

Visitors will be inspired by the diversity of materials, expertise and strength of creativity that characterize Allied Craftsmen of San Diego.

“Allied Craftsman is excited about the opportunity to once again exhibit at the Oceanside Museum of Art,” said David Brown, chairman of Allied Craftsman. “We are excited to bring our unique and diverse brand of fine crafts back to this facility.”

Celebrating San Diego’s artistic diversity

This exhibition was judged by Goucher Saunders, a curator at the International Folk Art Museum, drawing on his 10 years of experience in the art world.

A past associate curator at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, Saunders has developed a keen eye for innovative and transformative work.

“Hands-On Design will showcase San Diego’s incredible local talent and celebrate the beauty of storytelling through craft traditions,” Sanders said.

“It’s great to see each artist’s unique interpretation and contemporary exploration of what it means to work with your hands. We are highlighting works of art.
