Be Different and Drink Sweet Potato Spice Frozen Lattes

Pumpkin spice frozen coffee seems to have a cult following and just heating the name invokes thoughts of sweaters and multi-colored leaves. It’s a knee jerk reaction that you just can’t help.

While I certainly have a recipe for pumpkin spice lattes both hot and frozen sometimes you have to try something new and different. Or maybe you have some sweet potatoes left over from dinner which was what got me started in this direction!

You probably know the coffee concentrate drill by now, but here it...

Vegan Slow Cooking for Two or Just You Blog Tour

Today my blog tour stops at 86 Lemons, Livvy Zimmerman’s beautiful blog. her Chopped Power Salad really has me drooling.I love the vibrancy of her photos as well as her friendly conversational tone. It’s like listening to an old friend with great taste in food!

I’m still hoping fall will surprise me any day now. It’s just not fair that I’m ready for pumpkin everything, winter squash, pears and stews. So far I’m not getting my wish but I did find some great organic pears at Trader Joe’s and som...

Fall Soup Creation – The Art of Soup

longhouse-barn

I was at a wonderful food conference last weekend in upstate New York called Longhouse Revival. While it was much warmer than we expected in the morning there was enough of a chill in the air that made me long for bowls of piping hot soup.

As soon as I got home I made a slow cooker of split pea soup. I’m planning on turning the bits and pieces from the fridge and my pantry into some spur of the moment soup creations.

I know some people don’t like to just start throwing things in the pot and feel...

Slow Cooker Indian-Spiced Mixed Lentil Stew

IMAG2203

Here’s a quick and easy slow cooker stew that makes about 2 to 3 servings. I love using my small slow cooker and it was really fun testing the limits of it last year when I was writing Vegan Slow Cooking for Two. (You can double or triple this recipe and use a larger slow cooker if you’d prefer.)

Like many of my favorite dishes this is not the prettiest, but it is full of flavor and takes very little effort which is way better than looks to me. It’s perfect to throw together before work in the...

Whole Grain Vegan Baking Recipe and a Giveaway!

cover

All of you know I’m a fan of whole grain flours. But I don’t always branch out much into spelt, barley and other seldom used ones. Celine and Tamasin have written the perfect book to explore different kinds of grain flours.

I only made 3 recipes but that’s because we kept eating and eating the tasty results and I have to slow down on the sweets a little for now. However Whole Grain Baking will be on my kitchen counter so I can grab it when the baking mood hits. There must be dozens of other re...

Make your own bouillon and save some cash!

Bouillon adds a flavor boost to any dish and is compact because it’s concentrated making it easy to store. Make it yourself and customize it with yourfavoriteherbs and veggies – you’ll never buy it in the store again!

Store bought veggie bouillon can be expensive and my favorite brand has almost tripled in price! Most are full of salt and some have ingredients that many people are trying to avoid. It’s so easy to make and you can vary it to fit with the veggies and herbs you have on hand.

It’s Pumpkin Drink Time! Vegan Pumpkin Spice Cheap-o-chino and Maple-sweetened Pumpkin-Spiced Latte

Pumpkin Spice Frozen Coffee

I’m actually had a much needed weekend away from home and work. I started this post ay my friend’s amazing farmhouse somewhere up North.

After an amazing dinner and a perfect night’s sleep I snuck down to the screened in porch to get in a little writing before everyone got up. Until Cheryl came down to check on me, I didn’t even know I was actually locked out of the house. But then Cheryl let the door click…and we were both locked out. Don’t worry there was a happy ending that included having...

Thai Coconut Tongue of Fire Soup from The Great Vegan Bean Book

Tongue of Fire Soup from The Great Vegan Bean Book

This creamy soup is full of Thai flavor. Lemongrass, lime, coconut milk, ginger and cilantro elevate this soup to an exotic treat.

The tongue of fire in the title refers to a variety of heirloom beans with that name, which have a meaty mouthfeel and an undertone of spice in them. They are firm like kidney beans, which you can use in their place if you can’t find the exotic ones.

In case it’s hard for you to find some of the more exotic ingredients near you, I have some easier to find substituti...
