The black-eyed peas cook down into a thick stew as they meld with the Cajun seasoningand veggies to create a New Orleans–inspired sloppy Joe. It’s great inside a bun orladled over an open-faced bun. Millet has a slightly sweet taste and adds some extra iron...

Root Veggie Barley Risotto from Vegan Slow Cooking for Two

It got into the 20′s here last night even though it was 70 degrees just 3 days ago, so that’s gotten me craving root veggies. I bought some great looking rutabagas at the farmers market and they will be the perfect centerpiece in this barley risotto tomorrow night.
I’ve been in love with the humble turnip and rutabaga ever since my first winter CSA. The wonderful thing about them is that they are inexpensive, keep for a long period of time and how they mellow out with cooki...

Bourbon Recipes for Merrier Holidays!
The holidays are approaching at a blazing speed. I don’t know about you but I always seem to stop taking good care of myself during all the festivities from Halloween till New Years. This year my answer for Thanksgiving is in a bourbon bottle. Don’t worry, I’m not planning on drinking my way through the holidays, just using it to flavor a few of my favorite treats.
For breakfast the day of the big cook I suggest having some Whole Wheat Bourbon Banana Bread. It’s chock full of pecans and will g...

In the middle of pumpkin-everything-season make sure you don’t neglect those sweet, crisp apples. These biscuits are flavored with the essence of autumn – cinnamon, and they are packed full of juicy apples.
Fall is finally here.I love having the house open and listening the rustling of the leaves as they just begin to dry out. As soon as it cools down outside I crave baking and cooking stews on the stove all day long. I have to say though, if all my experiments end up like this one I will be o...

Get-Well-Quick Chickpea Soup
You always need a back-up plan in case you feel a little under the weather. This soup is what I’m counting on if I get sick this year.
This soup is pretty easy and you can even cut up the veggies the night before and keep in the fridge until the morning. Then wake up, throw everything in the crock and cook for 7 to even up to 12 hours. The longer you cook it the more important it is to check the seasonings – you will probably need to add more before you serve it. This is the game changer for s...
