December Daily® 2022 | Story 02

Welcome to the second story in my 2022 December Daily® album. 

Man, this project makes me so happy! 

Before you dive into today's project I want to remind you that there will be some days when I spend a lot of time on a project and other times when my project is faster/simpler. Today I had time available to me to play + stitch + linger and I had the best time getting my story told.

Today's project started with the full page of stamping I did as a challenge during
Prep Day (you can still sign up for this + have access to all the content, downloads, etc). I knew I was most likely going to pair that full page of stamping with a full page photo + a story + I had another idea I've been just waiting to play around with on top of a photo. 

Over the last few months I've been looking at a lot of cool
images on Pinterest by artists who add stitching to photos/postcards/images. It's such a fun technique/concept that we can easily adapt into our memory keeping adventures. Here are a few of those images I have saved to a Pinterest board for inspiration: 

I knew I wanted to play around with this idea on a big photo this month and a photo of the lights on our house became the foundation to test this out. 

In addition to those Pinterest images I also saw Leontien on Instagram doing similar beautiful stitched stars on paper:

Here are additional images/details of today's story: 

I ended up with the full page quote + an insert (playful stuff on the front + story on the back) + my photo with stitching on top. 

The cardstock insert became the home for my number two chipboard which was layered on top of vellum + patterned paper and for one of the puffy Santa's on top of a custom "the story of the lights" circle layered on top of a transparency on top of a pattern paper. I also added stitched stars using red embroidery floss on top of both to link it to the treatment on the full page photo. 

Along the outside edge I added black pom pom trim. 

The layered Santas from the Main Kit would also work great on top of this circle. I used a 2.5 inch circle punch to punch this out after I ran it through my Minc machine to add gold foil.

Seriously going all in on the red right now. 

I used one of the digital 3x8 journal cards and added my story on top using the font Secretary Typewriter. 

Today's story is all about getting Christmas lights on the whole house for the first time. 

On top of my full page photo (sized 11 inches wide x 8.25 inches tall and printed here at home on my Epson XP15000) I stitched three simple, imperfect starburst shapes. In today's video I walk through my process for adding the stitches. 

Now I totally want to try other shapes + words with the embroidery floss on my photos.

December Daily® 2022 | Story 01

Welcome to the documenting portion of 
December Daily® 2022!

I'm so excited to be here sharing my Day 01 story:
a letter to myself. 

As it got closer to December and I was thinking of the story I'd like to start with I kept coming back to writing myself a letter. Back in 2017 Brandi Kincaid did a beautiful album that consisted of a series of letters (you can see details on YouTube here). Tazhiana Gordon did a version of this a few years ago too which you can see more of on her YouTube channel. My letter is very much a continuation of my reason why/intentions and is a letter of encouragement to myself as we embark on this season. 

As always today's video will you show you things I think about as I'm working through my story, including discussing variations on the design that I don't end up going with but might spark ideas for you. Remember that I always encourage you to be a translator of ideas. Love the idea of a letter to yourself but don't want to handwrite in vellum? Make it work for you + your own project.

For today's story I ended up writing a letter to myself using a white POSCA paint pen on printable ink jet vellum and layering that on top of the December pattern paper. 

But before I got to that place I drew lines and handwrote my letter directly on the pattern paper. Here's the variation I did first and then decided to go with the vellum: 

I used a Precision Pen (.03) to write my letter. 

Looking at this now I could have totally gone with that first version and been happy but while I was in it I decided I wanted to try doing it on vellum and see how that turned out: 

I loved how it turned out!

Under the red December I added a Tim Holtz Rub On (similar set here) + a star sequin + a brad. Wood veneer star was adhered to the felt number with red line tape. 

I considered adding a few different things to this pattern paper including adding a bunch of number one's from my stash from past year's offerings and also considered embossing a bunch of number ones to add texture. In the end I decided to keep it simple and just adhere the felt one. 

The last thing I did today was add a title to my table of contents page. I used a small typewriter alpha stamp set from my stash. I'm not sure yet if I will stamp each day or do a combination of stamping and handwriting. Love having this set up for 2022!

2023 Subscription Updates | This is Going To Be Fun

We’re excited to welcome Lisa Varshine, Krystal Idunate, and Jen Wong as contributors for this class. Each of them will be sharing their projects and process videos. We will be looking for opportunities to invite other community members to contribute in 2023!

Inspiration By The Month™ will be replacing the digital Stories By The Month Subscription™. If you are a current digital Stories By The Month™ subscriber, your subscription will roll over to Inspiration By The Month™ automatically and the price will remain the same at $9.99 per month. 

We’re also excited to announce that all physical Stories By The Month™ kit subscribers will be given access to the Inspiration By The Month™ class content as part of your subscription. Ali's 2022 6x8 Story Albums | Volumes Two + Three

I recently shared a photo on my Instagram account of me holding a bunch of 6x8 layouts that needed to be put into albums. 

I had a chance to take care of that today so I filmed an overview of the pages I added into these two albums. Most of the projects in these albums are supported by products from the Story Kit and Quarterly Scrapbook Kit along with a few other stories told use various releases from this past year.

December Daily® 2022 | Ali's Foundation Pages

Woo hoo!

I'm super excited to share a look at where I'm at with my 
2022 December Daily® album today. I'm going with "loose" foundation pages again this year meaning I have some things established + some things left completely open + I'm feeling really good about it! 

A couple notes: 

I'm loving working outside the page protectors and am definitely continuing that in this project.  I encourage you to be a translator of my ideas! You might not have all the same supplies but more likely than not you can use what you have to create homes for your stories.  I'll be sharing my stories/finished pages here on the blog just as in past years.  I'm feeling really playful this year and am running with that! Let's continue to normalize that this project can be simple or it can be super crafty or it can be playful and loose or a wonderful combination of any of those things. Don't feel like you have to stick with whatever you have done in the past. How do you want to approach your stories in this season of your own life? 

Let's dive right in to a video walk-through:

After my table of contents pages it's time to dive into the stories!

For my first story I think I'll be writing myself a letter to start off the season and adding it right on top of this pattern paper. I'm using a paper clip to hold the black felt number 1 which will likely be adhered next to the M before I write my letter. I might add a photo to this page too or I might simply let it be a word-based story. 

Story number two will include this stamped page I put together for a Prep Day challenge. I'll likely pair this with a full page photo.

Story three foundation will be shared later this month in Product Play so here's a look at my starting place for story four. It will be built on the back of the page with the washi tape and paid with one of the 1/2 circle pages. 

Story five will use the other 1/2 circle page paired with a pattern paper from our Numbers Scrapbook Kit (vellum number is from there too). You can also purchase just the 6x8 papers from this kit. 

Story six will pair one of the die cut pages with a vellum page + a 4x4 card from the Main Kit. 

I'll likely pair that 4x4 journal card with a 4x4 photo...or maybe some other kind of fun interactive element in that same shape. 

Story seven includes journal cards I made during Prep Day. One is a shaker pocket page that holds stamped tags using the Tag + Star Stamp Set. On top of the shaker pocket I added a puffy Santa sticker and a glitter cardstock word. Along the bottom I added Tim Holtz Rub Ons (similar). 

My eighth story will be added inside the green pattern paper. This project was created for Product Play (full details + instructions available there). 

Story nine will be added to the back of story eight. I imagine I'll likely added a circle photo and/or journaling on top of the pattern paper. 

Story ten will live inside this window card. I love the simplicity of this page and letting the pattern paper be as it is. 

Story 11 will be added to this fun gold foil pattern paper. Maybe I'll document things we are eating or things people are saying or wrapping paper or ornaments or something else entirely. 

For story twelve I'll be writing down 12 things I'm thankful for (this page first appeared in Product Play). Tag stamp here. 

My next few pages are really loose which gives me a lot of flexibility. I added this transparency in that I know I really like + want to make sure to use in my album this year. 

I know I want to use these felt pockets from the Main Kit and plan to pair them with the foiled label stickers. 

I'm always a fan of grids so I've got this transparent page added in and will add more during the month. 

Story fifteen (most likely) will be the stocking pocket page I created for Prep Day. I love how these turned out (added embossing and texture paste and stitched it all together) and will be adding words/photos in the pockets (the backs of the stockings are pattern vellum so you can see through). 

Stories sixteen and seventeen will likely be built on this die cut page. I'm thinking I'd like to have three of the circles be see-through so I picked out a transparency from this set to use for that purpose. 

Story eighteen will be the "would you rather" tags from Prep Day. Each person in my family has a tag to circle their preferences. I created a felt pocket using felt from Benzie Design to hold the tags. 

Story nineteen will be built using this die cut heart and the black felt numbers. 

The next page I've got in my album (maybe story twenty) is a shaker page I built using the die cut page from the Cardstock Insert Set. On top of the die cut page I added Glitter Gel Stickles (so fun). 

I super love how this turned out using plastic sheets, foam tape adhesive, and beautiful sequins from .

The last actual page I have set up at this time features the tag die cut page with some of the rubber tags on top (and a puffy Santa). I'll likely add photos and/or journaling in these same tag shapes here for my story. Simple red ribbon was added to each rubber tag and the tags are adhered with red line tape. 

I love how these stitched heart pockets turned out! I'm planning to use it on one of these days - maybe on top of a photo or a full page of pattern paper. 

The last few things I have set aside include the Merry Christmas Die Cut, a few more vellum numbers from the Numbers Scrapbook Kit, and I will for sure be using that tag paper for the base of one of my stories.

I am so excited to document December with you! Let's do this!

Make sure you check out what's all available via your My Subscriptions page. 

Add On options are available to all Story Kit™, Story Stamp™, and Stories By The Month™ subscribers (this excludes Digital Story Kit/Story Class subscribers since you don't have any part of your subscription shipped already). Current and new subscribers can select + purchase Add-On's via your new drop-down menu access under your user name in the top right corner of the site: you need to do this before the 11th of the month in order for them to ship with your kit.
Depending on product availability subscribers may be able to purchase the Add-On's after the Add-On period has ended and regular shop shipping rates will apply because they will ship separately from the kit.

Our Scrapbook Kit is a quarterly auto-shipment kit containing a variety of themed scrapbooking papers and embellishments. An auto-ship subscription means that when you sign up for this first kit you are signing up for the other three as well.⁠ Themes this year included Rainbow, Black + White, Numbers, and Tags. We will be back with a new set of themes for next year!

DECEMBER DAILY® PRODUCT PLAY | YOUR CHOICE

Product Play workshop registration is now available! For 2022 we are changing up our December Daily® Product Play workshop and this year will be focusing on an overall theme of Your Choice. For 30 days in November, you’ll receive one new idea per day (for a total of 30) brought to you by Ali and the contributors to this class. Ideas in this workshop will focus on physical products from this year’s December Daily® Collection. Each product with have three lessons taught by three different instructors and will be classified into different project levels depending on the amount of time or steps involved. Shop the class here.
