Gather small strips of fabric that portray your sense of fashion, stitch into strip sets, and cut into squares and then fill the center panel of this tunic with small quilt squares or blocks that contrast with the basic tunic color. Stitch an OESD Origami Gift Box – All in the Hoop of Your Embroidery Machine!  Tutorial by the Stitch it! Sisters

Hoop one layer of AquaMesh and one layer of BadgeMaster for all designs.

Hoop one layer of AquaMesh and one layer of BadgeMaster for all designs.

Adhere two layers of StabilStick CutAway to the wrong side of all applique fabrics to provide stiffness to the finished structure.

Load selected design into the machine.Example design is 12888-03.Thread the machine per the thread chart.Place hoop on the machine.Stitch Machine Step 1, Front Fabric Placement Stitch.

Remove the hoop from the machine, but NOT the project from the hoop.Place the hoop on a flat surface.Cut the prepared applique fabrics 1/4”-1/2” larger than theapplique templates.Cover the placement line completely with the preparedfabric.Tape in place to secure.NOTE: A separate Machine Step has been added to allowdesign work to be placed on the outside of the box if desired. Stitch the design between Steps 6 and 7 in the instructions. If no design is added to the box, add the back fabric now (see Step 7) and skip Machine Step 3, Back Fabric Cut Line and Tackdown.

Return the hoop to the machine.Stitch Machine Step 2, Front Fabric Cut Line and Tackdown.

Remove the hoop from the machine, but NOT the project from the hoop.Trim the excess fabric as close to the cut line stitching as possible. If the outermost stitches (cut line) are cut, the inner stitches (tackdown) will still hold the applique in place.Tip: If the AquaMesh is cut or a hole is created while trimming the fabric, use Expert Embroidery Tape WashAway.Note: Design work for the box may be added here, before proceeding to Step 7.

Turn the hoop over and place the back applique fabric right side up covering the placement stitch.Carefully tape to secure. Avoid pushing too hard on the stabilizer to prevent it from dislodging from the hoop.

Return the hoop to the machine.Stitch Machine Step 3, Back Fabric Cut Line and Tackdown.

Remove the hoop from the machine, but NOT the project from the hoop.Trim the excess fabric as close to the cut line stitching as possible. Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the remaining colors according to the thread chart.Remember to thread the sewing machine with matching thread in the top and bobbin.

When design is complete, remove the project from the hoop and trim the stabilizer 1/4”- 1/2” outside the design.

Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly tacky.Place right side down on a non-stick surface to dry. Parchment paper or a cooling rack will prevent curling. Dry completely.

Once dry, press right side down on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

Line up the pieces to connect as shown. Thread the sewing machine with matching thread in the top and bobbin.Stitch together using a multi-step zigzag stitch (also known as a serpentine stitch). Back stitch at the beginning and end to secure. Trim thread tails.Tip: An open toe or edge stitch foot is helpful.

Match the eyelets and buttonettes as shown. Pull each buttonette through the corresponding eyelet, using button clips to temporarily hold them in place, as needed.

Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.

February 2024 NZP Block of the Month Quilt Blocks

This block is 6-1/2″ square; 6″ finished square.

Approx. Finished Quilt Size 60″ x 72″

Cut Fabrics for FOUR February 2024 Block of the Month Quilt Blocks Bali Batik Tropical Cove :Cut Eight 3-7/8″ squares from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Pathways Red/Violet Fabric.Cut Eight 3-7/8″ squares from Background Fabric.

Using the Exclusive No-Hassle Triangles Ruler by Team NZP, cut block squares above.

Construct Blocks

All seam allowances are scant 1/4″ unless otherwise stated.

Half-Square Triangles (HSTs)

Create EIGHT 1/2-square triangle blocks cut from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Pathways Red/Violet and Background Fabric.Align 3-7/8″ squares right sides together, in pairs of lights and darks. Pin.

Mark blocks using a Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge , and Clover’s Fine Marking Pen or a Frixion Marking Pen. The left side of the No-Hassle Triangles Gauge is designated to create 1/2-square triangle quilt blocks. Depress button on sliding portion of the gauge, and move to 3-7/8″ half-square triangle setting.

With squares right sides together. Place Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge on block set, corner to corner. Match corner marks of gauge with corner of block sets. Mark fabric through center die cut openings on gauge, with Clover’s Fine Marking Pen or a Frixion Marking Pen. Repeat steps, marking all 3-7/8″ square block sets.

Stitch BlocksInsert a new Size 75 Schmetz Quilting Needle and attach 1/4″ Quilting Presser Foot to sewing machine.Align 1/4″ Quilting Presser Foot along one side of center mark, stitch.“Kiss” the next block set to the stitched block and chain stitch (stitching continually) from one block to the next.

Rotate blocks 180 degrees, stitch along the other side of center marked lines.

Clip threads between chain stitched blocks.

Cut blocks apart along center marked lines with a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat .

Press seams flat.Open blocks and press seams open or press seams towards darker fabric – using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.

You have created SIXTEEN 3-1/2″ 1/2-square triangle blocks cut from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Pathways Red/Violet and background fabrics.

Construct Block

Layout 3-1/2″ half-square triangle blocks, as show below. Rotate blocks as needed.

Join Squares and RectanglesPlace blocks from top row right sides together, in pairs. Pin. Chain stitch from one block set to the next. Clip threads between blocks.Press seams flat, then press open or to one side – using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.Repeat steps above with bottom row.

Place top row to bottom row right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Press seams flat, then press open or to one side – using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.

Repeat steps above stitching all Four 6-1/2″ February 2024 Block of the Month Blocks:
