2024 NZP Mystery Block of the Month Series kicked off on Saturday, January 20, 2024.As always, there’s no cost to join and no need to formally sign up.On the third Saturday of each month in 2024, we will be posting a new quilt block tutorial.Block designs will be stitched each month. Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.

Cut Fabrics for Four August 2024 Block of the Month Quilt Blocks Bali Batik Tropical Cove :Cut Two 6-7/8″ squares from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Cane Leaf Purple/Green Fabric.Cut Two 6-7/8″ squares from Background Fabric.
Using the Exclusive No-Hassle Triangles Ruler by Team NZP, cut block squares above.
All seam allowances are scant 1/4″ unless otherwise stated.
Half-Square Triangles (HSTs)
Create Four 1/2-square triangle blocks cut from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Cane Leaf Purple/Green and Background Fabric.Align 6-7/8″ squares right sides together, in pairs of lights and darks. Pin.
Clip threads between chain stitched blocks.

Prepare Bin Fabrics
Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with June Tailor’s Starch Savvy.
Fold Blue Glohaven Flowers fabric wrong sides together – meeting short ends.
Save 5″ fabric squares for a future sewing and/or quilting project!
Fold Yellow Glohaven Blossoms fabric wrong sides together – meeting short ends.
Note: Before cutting inner bin lining pieces, fold paper pattern top toward pattern back – along 1″ marked line.
Place folded pattern on fabric and cut two layers: One Fabric Bin inner front and one Fabric Bin inner back lining.
Pattern top will remain folded toward pattern back –when cutting inner bin lining pieces and Peltex layers.
Prepare Outer Fabric Bin
Using a Non-Stick Teflon Pressing Sheet , press Wonder-Under strips to wrong side of outer front and outer back – centering Wonder-Under strips along top edges and 1/2″ inside each side.
Prepare and Attach Handles to Outer Fabric Bin
Cut two 8″ lengths from Yellow 1″ Cotton Webbing .
When using a rotary cutter with pinking or wave blade, flip cutting mat over and cut on the back side of the mat.
Meet outer bin gusset seam, stacking side seam over lower center seam. Wonder Clip. Stitch.Repeat steps to create opposite gusset seam.
Prepare Inner Fabric Bin
Wonder Clip or Pin inner front and inner back lining right sides together.

Preshrink fabrics by steaming and pressing, and steaming and pressing a second time, and then spray press and starch fabric with June Tailor’s Quilter’s Starch Savvy — press and starch, press and starch.
In today’s sewing tutorial, we’re making our Sew-In-A-Cinch Gift Bag in size small.
Choose one outer bag fabric and one accent fabric.
Cut Fabric and Supplies
Cut two 4″ x 10″ rectangles for accent fabric strips.
Cut two 10″ x 13″ rectangles for outer gift bag.
Cut two 30″ lengths of ribbon and angle cut short ends to prevent fraying.
Stitch
Align one 4″ x 10″ rectangle with one 10″ x 13″ rectangle, right sides together, at bag top as shown.Pin.Stitch or serve top edge forming bag front.
Align bag front with bag back, right sides together, matching seams at sides. Pin.
Assemble and Finish
Pin bag front to bag back along side seams.
Create Cinching Ribbon Ties
Using Clover’s Clip n Glide Bodkin, insert one ribbon into casing opening along one side seam.
Optional: Create Lower Gussets
Turn bag inside out.Stack lower seam to side seam.Adjust Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to 1-1/2″ and align center of gauge to center of side seam.Mark a straight line at 1-1/2″ inside lower corner, as shown.
Stitch along marked line.Repeat steps above and stitch opposite lower corner gusset.
Add gussets to any bag to create a bag with depth. Note: Adding 1-1/2″ gussets at lower bag will shorten bag height by 1-1/2″.
Turn bag right side out.Pull ribbons at opposite ends to cinch bag closed!
