Easily make half-square triangle blocks using the No-Hassle Triangles Ruler. There’s no hassle and no need to cut a single triangle! The measurements are printed on the No-Hassle Triangles Ruler – designed by Team NZP.
Mark block sets using Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge and fabric marking pen. The left side of the gauge is designated to create 1/2-square triangle blocks. Depress button on sliding portion of the gauge and move to size of the desired 1/2-square triangle.
Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.

Our Halloween Half-Square Triangles Table Runner goes together in a couple evenings of sewing and features twenty-eight 4″ half-square triangle quilt blocks – all made with fat quarters!
Approximate finished size: 24″ W x 40″ L
Cut Fabrics and Supplies
Prior to cutting center front and backing fabric rectangles, first measure your completed Block Rows. If your Block Rows are different measurements – adjust your center rectangle measurements accordingly.
Cut one 16-1/2″ x 32-1/2″ rectangle from dark coordinating fabric for table runner center.Cut fabric backing rectangle approximately 26″ x 42″ (or larger).Cut fleece batting rectangle approximately 26″ x 42″ (or larger).Pair light/medium fat quarters with dark fat quarters making assorted sets.
Place fat quarter sets right sides together. Press.Using the No-Hassle Triangle Ruler , rotary cutter and mat, cut one 4-7/8″ crosswise fabric strip from each of the fat quarter sets.From each of the crosswise fabric strips, subcut one or more 4-7/8″ square sets. Set aside.
Subcutting strips into squares is also known as creating block sets. This table runner requires only 14 block sets!
Team NZP selected the following block set combinations:
Subcut four 4-7/8″ squares, for corner block sets, and layout in columns as show below.Pair left column square with right column square, to create corner block sets.Subcut eight 4-7/8″ squares, for “Four Block” row sets, and layout in columns as shown below.Pair each left column square with right column square, to create block sets.
Subcut sixteen 4-7/8″ squares, for “Ten Block” row sets, and layout in columns as shown below.
Pair each left column square with right column square, to create block sets.
Create Half-Square Triangle (HSTs) Quilt Blocks for Outer Borders
Align one light/medium 4-7/8″ square with one dark 4-7/8″ square, right sides together, as shown above.Set Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge at the 4-1/2″ Half-Square setting, and place on block set – matching corner marks of gauge with corners of block sets.Mark fabric through center die cut openings, with a fabric marking pen. Optional: Pin.Repeat steps above and mark remaining block sets.Stitch Blocks
Attach 1/4″ Patchwork Presser Foot to machine.Insert new Schmetz Chrome Quilting Needle, Sz. 75 .Set machine for a straight stitch with a 2.0–2.5 mm stitch length.Align 1/4″ presser foot along one side of center marked line. Stitch. Do not cut the threads.“Kiss” the next block set to the stitched block, and chain stitch from one block to the next block.
Use Clover’s Stilletto/Awl to assist with guiding blocks under presser foot.
Rotate blocks 180 degrees, and stitch along the second side of center marked lines.Continue chain stitching until all block sets are stitched.Clip threads between chain stitched blocks with scissors .Using rotary cutter, ruler, and mat , cut blocks apart along center marked lines.Press seams flat, then press seams to the dark side of the half-square blocks. Use a Tailor’s Clapper to flatten and set seams!Each block set makes two half-square triangles!Repeat steps above and create twenty-eight half-square blocks:
Four Corner block sets.Eight “Four Block” row sets.Sixteen “Ten Block” row sets.Create Outer Border Block Rows
Create two “Ten Block” rows. Approximate finished size: 4-1/2″x 40-1/2″.Layout quarter-square triangle block rows as shown, rotating blocks as necessary. Note: Each “Ten Block” row begins and ends with a corner block.
Stitch Block Pairs
Create two “Four Block” rows. Approximate finished size: 4-1/2″ x 16-1/2″.Layout quarter-square triangle blocks as shown, rotating blocks as necessary.Place two blocks right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Chainstitch from one block set to the next. Clip threads between block pairs.Press seams flat, then press seams open.Place block pairs right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Press seams flat, then press seams open.Repeat steps above and create second “Four Block” row.
Arrange completed “Four Block” and “Ten Block” outer border block rows as shown.
Assemble and Finish Table Runner

Double check center rectangle width measurement by measuring the width of your “Four Block” rows.Double check center rectangle length by finding the measurement between the first and last seam of your “Ten Block” rows – then add 1/2″ for seam allowances.Adjust your center rectangle measurements as needed.Cut one 16-1/2″ W x 32-1/2″ L rectangle for table runner center.Place one “Four Block” row to one short end of center rectangle, with right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Place remaining “Four Block” row, to remaining short end of center rectangle, with right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Press seams flat, then press seams towards center table runner. Use a Tailor’s Clapper to flatten and set seams!Place one “Ten Block” row to one long edge of table runner assembly, with right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Place remaining “Ten Block” row to remaining long edge of table runner assembly, with right sides together. Pin. Stitch.Press seams flat, then towards center of table runner.Cut Backing and Batting
Cut fabric backing and quilt batting rectangles approximately 27″ W x 42″ L ea. (or larger).Layer quilt backing (wrong side up), the Pellon Fleece Batting , and the table runner quilt top (right side up) – to create a quilt sandwich.Optional: Spray-baste quilt layers with June Tailor’s Quilt Basting Spray or, pin–baste layers together with Clover’s Wonder Pins !Quilt Layers using your favorite quilting techniques.Finish quilt, using your favorite binding technique. Pillowcase Sewing Tutorial
Approximate Finished Size: 20″ x 30″
Makes one standard size pillowcase.
Supplies Needed 3/4 yd. Novelty Print Fabric A –main pillowcase fabric such as Super Heros or Comic Strip. 1/4 yd. Fabric B –Stars border 1/8 yd. Fabric C–Dots trim Coordinating all-purpose thread Optional Notions: I Sew For Fun Heart Shaped Straight Pins, I Sew For Fun Magnetic Heart-Shaped Covered Pin Caddy and I Sew For Fun Sew Safe Presser Foot.
InstructionsPlease read all instructions before beginning. Use the width of the presser foot as the depth of the seam allowance.
Prep Before You SewGather your sewing supplies and prep your fabric for sewing. Included with the Official 2024 I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Pillowcase Project Pack you’ll find everything you’ll need to complete the I Sew For Fun Pillowcase Project, you’ll supply the thread! When you receive your challenge project pack, open the package and prep your fabrics. Then find the FREE! I Sew For Fun Pillowcase Sewing Tutorial, below. Read all directions, before beginning.
With the help of your big Sewing Partner, Press & Starch, and Press & Starch fabrics, before cutting and sewing your pillowcase.
Press and cut the fabrics:
Cut one 27″ x 41″ rectangle from Fabric A – for main pillowcase.Cut a 9″ x 41″ rectangle from Fabric B – for wide border; set aside.
Cut a 2″ x 41″ rectangle from Fabric C for accent trim.
Fold the 2″ strip of trim fabric in half, wrong sides together, aligning the lengthwise edges; use Clover’s
I Sew for Fun Roll n’ Press
,or iron, to press fold.
Assemble trim and border:
Wonder Clip or Pin folded trim to right side of the 9″ x 41″ border fabric, aligning cut edges of trim with one lengthwise edge of the border fabric.
Machine baste.
Fold border fabric in half, right sides together.
Stitch the short ends of the border fabric.
Press seam open I Sew for Fun Roll n’ Press or iron.
Fold wrong sides of border together, aligning the lengthwise edges. Press; set aside.
Stitch the pillowcase:
Fold Fabric A rectangle in half, right sides together, aligning 27″ edges. Wonder Clip or Pin and stitch 21″seam. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and ending of the seam. Or, use a serger!
This is a great spot to teach your little partner one of Nancy Zieman’s favorite techniques—the wrapped corner!
Wrap the corner by folding the 21″ seam toward the pillowcase along the stitching line and stitch the 27″ side seam. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and ending of the seam. Or, use a serger!Turn pillowcase right side out. Pin or Wonder Clip border fabric over the main pillowcase fabric meeting cut edges, with right sides together.
Stitch layers together. Clean finish cut edges using either a zigzag stitch or serger overlock machine. Press seam toward main body of pillowcase.
Optional: Topstitch trim along the border fabric edge, catching the seam within the seam allowance.

2. The challenge is limited to the first 30 persons whose parent or guardian purchases the Official 2024 I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Pillowcase Project Pack. Purchase project pack as soon as possible at ShopNZP.com to reserve challenge spot. Quantities are limited.
3. NEW! I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Part Two: Pillowcase Sewing Steps (above)!
4. Sew a pillowcase using the official Official 2024 I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Pillowcase Project Pack fabric, along with any sewing and/or serging techniques. Construction may be done by hand or by machine. Participants may use any type of embellishment, decorations, and may add designer touches. Work may be done exclusively by the participant, and/or with the assistance of an adult. One pillowcase per participant. Challenge participants, and/or an adult parent/guardian must email two photos to info@ziemanproductions.com on or before September 23, 2024: One photo showing youth using Clover’s Sewing Tool(s) while sewing and/or working on the project, and a second photo of youth with the completed pillowcase. Note: It’s okay if you prefer to not show youth’s face in photos. Be sure to include challenge participant’s first name, city, state, and age when photos to info@ziemanproductions.com.
Participants will be judged on workmanship, creativity, and overall appearance. Participants photos will be shared on sponsoring companies social and web sites to promote the love of sewing.
Prizes will be awarded to those making the top three pillow cases, along with additional prizes awarded randomly. Winners will be announced on the Nancy Zieman Productions Blog on September 26, 2024.

Pillowcase Sewing Tutorial
Approximate Finished Size: 20″ x 30″
Makes one standard size pillowcase.
Supplies Needed 3/4 yd. Novelty Print Fabric A –main pillowcase fabric such as Super Heros or Comic Strip. 1/4 yd. Fabric B –Stars border 1/8 yd. Fabric C–Dots trim Coordinating all-purpose thread Optional Notions: I Sew For Fun Heart Shaped Straight Pins, I Sew For Fun Magnetic Heart-Shaped Covered Pin Caddy and I Sew For Fun Sew Safe Presser Foot.
InstructionsPlease read all instructions before beginning. Use the width of the presser foot as the depth of the seam allowance.
Prep Before You SewGather your sewing supplies and prep your fabric for sewing. Included with the Official 2024 I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Pillowcase Project Pack you’ll find everything you’ll need to complete the I Sew For Fun Pillowcase Project, you’ll supply the thread! When you receive your challenge project pack, open the package and prep your fabrics. Then find the FREE! I Sew For Fun Pillowcase Sewing Tutorial, below. Read all directions, before beginning.
With the help of your big Sewing Partner, Press & Starch, and Press & Starch fabrics, before cutting and sewing your pillowcase.
Press and cut the fabrics:
Cut one 27″ x 41″ rectangle from Fabric A – for main pillowcase.Cut a 9″ x 41″ rectangle from Fabric B – for wide border; set aside.
Cut a 2″ x 41″ rectangle from Fabric C for accent trim.
Fold the 2″ strip of trim fabric in half, wrong sides together, aligning the lengthwise edges; use Clover’s
I Sew for Fun Roll n’ Press
,or iron, to press fold.
Assemble trim and border:
Wonder Clip or Pin folded trim to right side of the 9″ x 41″ border fabric, aligning cut edges of trim with one lengthwise edge of the border fabric.
Machine baste.
Fold border fabric in half, right sides together.
Stitch the short ends of the border fabric.
Press seam open I Sew for Fun Roll n’ Press or iron.
Fold wrong sides of border together, aligning the lengthwise edges. Press; set aside.
Stitch the pillowcase:
Fold Fabric A rectangle in half, right sides together, aligning 27″ edges. Wonder Clip or Pin and stitch 21″seam. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and ending of the seam. Or, use a serger!
This is a great spot to teach your little partner one of Nancy Zieman’s favorite techniques—the wrapped corner!
Wrap the corner by folding the 21″ seam toward the pillowcase along the stitching line and stitch the 27″ side seam. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and ending of the seam. Or, use a serger!Turn pillowcase right side out. Pin or Wonder Clip border fabric over the main pillowcase fabric meeting cut edges, with right sides together.
Stitch layers together. Clean finish cut edges using either a zigzag stitch or serger overlock machine. Press seam toward main body of pillowcase.
Optional: Topstitch trim along the border fabric edge, catching the seam within the seam allowance.

4. Sew a pillowcase using the official Official 2024 I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Pillowcase Project Pack fabric, along with any sewing and/or serging techniques. Construction may be done by hand or by machine. Participants may use any type of embellishment, decorations, and may add designer touches. Work may be done exclusively by the participant, and/or with the assistance of an adult. One pillowcase per participant. Challenge participants, and/or an adult parent/guardian must email two photos to info@ziemanproductions.com on or before September 23, 2024: One photo showing youth using Clover’s Sewing Tool(s) while sewing and/or working on the project, and a second photo of youth with the completed pillowcase. Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.
Following instructions included with Zippity-Do-Done Insulated Lunch Bundle Box, cut fabric squares and rectangles.
Optional: Use June Tailor’s June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick or Quilt Basting Spray to spray baste substrate to backing fabric!
Assemble Quilt As You Go: Zippity-Do-Done Insulated Lunch Box
Place outer fabric and lining fabric right sides together. Sandwich wrong side of lining fabric to unprinted side of one bag substrate. Make sure fabric completely covers printed area.Stitch around dotted line using a 2.5 stitch length through all three layers, be sure not to stitch top zipper edge. NOTE: Do not iron.Repeat step above with second bag substrate.Trim layers on solid cutting line.Using Clover’s Point 2 Point Turner, turn lunch bag right side out.Optional: Using Clover’s Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser foot add straight line machine quilting to insulated lunch box.
Create Handle
Fold 4″ fabric strips in half wrong sides together, press.Open fabric strip and fold raw edges of fabric to center, press.Insert cotton webbing into folded fabric strip.Stitch both sides of fabric handle long edges.Place handle 6″ in from outer edges, pin.Topstich handle ends to outer lunch box – stitching along handle sides and 3-1/2″ from top of lunch box.Insert upper front assembly into one long edge opening of Zippity-Do-Done. Edgestitch along long edge of Zippity-Do-Done–stitching through all layers.Optional: Baste assembly to Zippity-Do-Done using June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick.

When you receive your challenge project pack, open the package and prep your fabrics. The FREE! I Sew For Fun Pillowcase Sewing Tutorial will be available September 10, 2024, right at the Nancy Zieman Productions Blog. If you’re ready to get started sooner than September 10, you’ll also find our Pillowcase Sewing Tutorial shared in an earlier blog posting. Read all directions, before beginning.
Before the sewing process, pressing and starching the fabric adds a bit of stiffness that helps make the cutting and sewing easier.
The I Sew For Fun Pillowcase may be sewn on a sewing machine, and/or sewing machine and serger!
As soon as you receive your 2024 I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge Pillowcase Project Pack you may start making your pillowcase! You’re the designer: You may choose to embellish your pillowcase with ribbons and/or lace, and/or add your name with fabric markers, and/or decorate your pillowcase as desired. Remember, you must use the office challenge fabrics included with the project pack and one Clover sewing tool—all included with the challenge kit!

Celebrating 20 Years of The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show in Madison WI – Sept. 5-7, 2024
This week Thursday through Saturday, September 5–7, thousands of quilting enthusiasts will gather in Madison, WI to find inspiration, learn new techniques, stock up on fabric & quilting supplies, and celebrate the joy of quilting! Use June Tailor’s Quilt Basting Spray to spray baste batting to backing fabric!
Use June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick to hold piece one in place.
Place piece one right side up.
Printed lines are for placement only and are not stitching lines!
Create Handle
Fold and press in 1/2″ on both ends of 11″ x 4″ rectangle.
Use Clover’s Hot Ruler or Hot Hemmer for precise pressing!
Place cotton webbing in center of 11″ x 4″ rectangle.Fold raw edges towards center, press.Center handle in center of Sewing Machine Cover.Topstitch handle ends to outer Sewing Machine Cover – stitching along handle side, top, and bottom forming a stitched 1″ square with optional “X” pattern as shown.Create Gusset
Fold Sewing Machine Cover in half right sides together.Stitch side seams.Trim edges of fabric to meet batting.Cut out gusset.Meet cover gusset seam, stacking side seam over lower center seam. Wonder Clip. Stitch.Repeat steps to create opposite gusset seam.Using your favorite binding technique , bind Quilt As You Go: Sewing Machine Cover.Create Sewing Machine Caddy following directions.
