YAY! Deadpool/Agent X!

Wow!

Finally, after ten years!  One of the most demanded runs of my work is finally being collected and I couldn’t be happier!

DEADPOOL CLASSIC VOL. 9 TPB

Written by GAIL SIMONE

Penciled by UDON STUDIOS

Cover by UDON STUDIOS

Writer Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) takes on Marvel’s Merc With a Mouth! When Deadpool crosses paths with the Black Swan, the telepathic villain infects Wade with a virus that eats away at his mind. Can Deadpool overcome his degenerating thought processes and continue his merc work? Not likely! The madness continues as Deadpool must steal the Rhino’s horn and play bodyguard to mutant songstress Dazzler. Along the way, he’ll get by with a little help from some new friends: Sandi Brandenberg, Ratbag, Outlaw and the Taskmaster. But when a showdown with the Black Swan goes wrong, who — if anyone — will survive? And in the aftermath: Meet Agent X! He appears on Sandi’s doorstep, an amnesiac blank slate with healing powers, uncanny fighting skills and a burning desire to be a mercenary. Is he a deeply damaged Deadpool? And if not, who or what is he? Collecting DEADPOOL (1997) #65-69 and AGENT X #1-6.

272 PGS./Rated T+ …$29.99

Batgirl #23 was IMO by far the best issue so far. Touching, tragic, fun, brutal & highlighted the outrageousness of everyday sexism. Nice one Gail. And I really hope Pasarin & Glapion stick around for the long term. They're an outstanding creative team.

Thank you, and HOLY SHIT DO I AGREE abouit Pasarin, Glapion and colorist BLOND.  They are absolutely amazing to me. The pages come in and I just am stunned.

The next issue, I had a simple cliffhanger page, and what they turned in was so fantastically miles BEYOND what I had asked for, I still can’t believe it. Wait til you see it!

catseatyourface:

There’s a shirtless guy named Mouse who controls rats or something. An African-American empath girl named Virtue (who is beautiful, just saying). There’s a tall, Laotian girl with cool hair and mechanic wings named Katharsis. There’s this dude who calls himself Burden with I’m guessing the power…

That is an hilarious summation. Thank you! :)

Just A Tip

Okay, someone’s going to accuse me of being a shill for Warner Brothers on this, I’m sure. Pllbbbbbbbbbbt.

That was a raspberry. I am posting this because I think a lot of readers will enjoy this so I’m giving a shout-out.

Fans of comics history might know that before MAD MAGAZINE became such a huge cultural thing, it was actually a traditional size comic book for 23 issues, full color, using a lot of the same talent that worked on EC COMICS classic titles like TALES FROM THE CRYPT and VAULT OF HORROR.

Many of the artists from these books went on to become all-time classic artists in many different comic genres. These original comics issues are fascinating time-capsules, but also really extraordinary little gems that were every bit as influential to how comedy is shown on a comic book page (and in films like AIRPLANE, I wager) as the TALES FROM A CRYPT issues were to horror.

These comics have been reprinted rarely in the past decade or so, they’re hard to find.

But the DC app and Comixology now have them up for just $1.99 an issue, the first issue is actually free.

I don’t do this a lot, but this is a totally great use of your kindle or tablet, they look great, fantastic art, and some of the stories are still funny as hell, even today.

Just passing it along. I have a lot of comics I have paid twice that much for that I read once and forgot. I suspect I’ll be rereading this for a long time.
