Just A Tip
Okay, someone’s going to accuse me of being a shill for Warner Brothers on this, I’m sure. Pllbbbbbbbbbbt.
That was a raspberry. I am posting this because I think a lot of readers will enjoy this so I’m giving a shout-out.
Fans of comics history might know that before MAD MAGAZINE became such a huge cultural thing, it was actually a traditional size comic book for 23 issues, full color, using a lot of the same talent that worked on EC COMICS classic titles like TALES FROM THE CRYPT and VAULT OF HORROR.
Many of the artists from these books went on to become all-time classic artists in many different comic genres. These original comics issues are fascinating time-capsules, but also really extraordinary little gems that were every bit as influential to how comedy is shown on a comic book page (and in films like AIRPLANE, I wager) as the TALES FROM A CRYPT issues were to horror.
These comics have been reprinted rarely in the past decade or so, they’re hard to find.
But the DC app and Comixology now have them up for just $1.99 an issue, the first issue is actually free.
I don’t do this a lot, but this is a totally great use of your kindle or tablet, they look great, fantastic art, and some of the stories are still funny as hell, even today.
Just passing it along. I have a lot of comics I have paid twice that much for that I read once and forgot. I suspect I’ll be rereading this for a long time.
