My Feelings On Working For Change...
You can make nice, or you can make a difference.
You can’t always do both at once.

Let’s hope this will be the year when we stop using language that invalidates transgender and nonbinary people. Our gender is as valid as everyone else’s.
Have you read Squirrel Girl yet? I feel she's the closest Marvel will ever get to Misfit.
I haven’t, but it sounds amazing. I’m going to get caught up some next week.

I can’t wait for you guys to see what’s coming. :)

SO GAIL SIMONE IS ONE OF OUR REGULARS AND HER HUSBAND ASKED ME “OH YEAH SO WHAT COMPANY IS YOUR FAV” AND I TOLD HIM “WELL HONESTLY I LOVE VERTIGO AND THUS OF COURSE DC” AND THEN AFTER THEY GOT OUT OF THEIR MOVIE THEY BROUGHT ME THESE SO I WAS ALL “OMG YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THAT” AND HE WAS LIKE “NO IT’S OKAY, MY WIFE HAS WORKED FOR DC FOR OVER A DECADE, WE GET THEM COMPED”
Hi, Ellie!
You have NO IDEA how happy we are that the theaters are opened up, and how Michael and all of you are doing such a fantastic job to make it a special place, after a year of no theaters in town at all.
It was our pleasure to give you the books (I picked them out and had hubby deliver them). Hope you enjoyed them! Promise to bring you more as we will be seeing LOTS OF MOVIES. :)
Let me know if there’s anything of mine you’d like to read and I’ll see if I have a copy laying around, too.
Thank you for improving our little town so muhc!
A Change Of Pace
I hope people give CONAN/RED SONJA a try today.
We all put our hearts and souls into it. It’s the first time these characters have shared a book in fifteen years, and they are the two greatest Sword and Sorcery characters of all time. A thousand imitators, and no equals!
We had a blast. Jim Zub co-wrote with me, art is by the AMAZING team of Dan Panosian and Dave Stewart (It’s honest to god one of the most gorgeous books I have ever been part of).
Comics can be fun sometimes. We wanted a fun, ferocious epic. Issue one is out today, and apparently is even on Comixology if you can’t get to a comics shop (Dark Horse doesn’t usually put their books on Comixology, so I didn’t know this was coming…cool!).
We had huge fun, you will, too. It’s a big week for comics, why not add some disgusting creatures, even villains, and two randy, rowdy swordslingers? :)
As someone whose ultimate goal is to publish an indie comic I've been working on for over a year, I want to say thank you for making that post. Thank you for the encouragement. Thank you for being a wonderful creator, and an inspiration. Thank you.
I appreciate it, thank you, and wish you the best of luck (luck helps!).
I see creators at conventions busting their rear ends to get a book out, to get it published and noticed. They give me a lot of hope for the future.
I don’t want them to feel like what they are going through is unique or rare, we have all experienced that uncertainty.
Can’t wait to read your book!
If You Are Considering Making Comics...
…and you are feeling nervous, inadequate, worried, and like it’s all insurmountable…
I want you to stop for a moment and really listen to this.
I don’t know a single comics creator worth a damn who never felt those things. Almost all of us STILL feel those things, either a little or a lot.
Those things can only stop you if you let them. They do not mean you aren’t a ‘real’ creator, because most ‘real’ creators have those feelings ALL THE TIME.
Take them as what they are, a perfectly understandable reaction to the daunting task of trying to put your art, heart and soul into a very public space, in a much-scrutinized media, where criticism comes from many angles.
It’s all right to be scared, it’s all right to be worried. It’s understandable to get down, or feel like it’s not possible.
Those feelings are part of it. They don’t have to be your roadblocks. You can make them your houseguests, because the odds are you will see them again once in a while, no matter how many awards you win or how many books you sell.
They are part of being an artist.
You are not alone. You are not unqualified just because you have doubts and worries.
Making art is a wonderful, rewarding thing. Part of why it’s so rewarding is because there are so many people and factors in the way of making art in the first place.
Don’t let the biggest roadblock be yourself. Your inner critic is often a liar and a jerk. But you can have the last laugh by doing what you love anyway.
Go make some art.
