The idea that Diana’s birth cause calamity among the Amazons was somewhat new when this origin came to us, and I prefer its handling in “The Circle” quite a bit more than other renditions. Because it was strife, but it wasn’t as mean spirited as later adaptations.
And further more, Hippolyta’s love and loyalty to her daughter is completely clear.
I was very very proud of this story, I think it might be the best superhero story I have written. It’s still taught in colleges often and I am regularly asked to speak about it for courses.
I also think it was a kind of story about women that made a lot of people uncomfortable. It was not cutesy and it was not about repressed sexuality, the two most prevalent female hero tropes commonly displayed as feminism these days.
Rather, it was about aspects of being female. It was about sisterhood, motherhood, compassion, mercy, jealousy, blood, birth, and many other factors that are actually part of many (not all) women’s lives.
Exaggerated adorableness, repressed sexuality, and fake misandry are all very popular ideas of what ‘modern’ means when writing female characters, and I find that those things exist and have value in fiction, but they are also extremely palatable to people who don’t actually listen to women’s voices. So we see them a lot, those storylines get approved. Which is all fine, but I’m glad there’s other stuff out there, like Captain Marvel as an example, and hopefully this story, to provide the counter-point.

The Battle of Helm’s Deep already has its own official LEGO version, but the licensed set has nothing on this mind blowing set built by Lord of the Rings fans Rich-K and Big J.
As where the official LEGO version features 1,368 pieces, this custom job utilizes over 150,000 LEGO building blocks to recreate the classic scene from J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic film. In addition to the staggering number of bricks used for the installation, Helm’s Deep also includes 1,700 minifgures.
