Alkyone better not be retconned!
Alkyone was deliciously evil. Demand it Gail, we need some badass Alkyone.
Evil? She did evil things, for sure…I think she's one of those villains where, if you skew your perspective, everything she did makes real sense. She is a zealot, but she cares about Amazons, she cares more about the Amazon way than any other, including Diana and Hippolyta. She did what she did out of love for the Amazons and loyalty to Hippolyta.
Misguided, yes, but it was still behavior borne of deep loyalty and conviction. She was willing to do anything to protect Hippolyta and her sisters.

Just posting more of the lovely...

Just posting more of the lovely Jeanette.
And the outside possibility that I could get Gail Simone's attention again.
(Pssst, come write Cosmic Marvel when you get bored with DC winkwink)
Aren't Abnett and Lanning writing that stuff? Those guys are way, way better at that than I would ever be, I'm sure. I love those guys.
I want people to look at this panel for a minute, and you'll understand why I am so crazy about Nicola Scott. Look at that face—it has whimsy and playfulness, it looks beautiful but unique, and the horror of a scar that she's been carrying all along is subtle yet unsettling. Knowing the scar comes from her having been beheaded makes it disturbing. The fact that it's in the middle of her trying to seduce Deadshot makes it even odder, and Nicola just nails it. She amazes me. No one draws Jeannette like Nicola Scott.
Another thing here is the work of the colorist, Jason Wright. A lot of colorists over-render, but if you'll notice, Jason here employs almost a painterly technique, bringing light across the panel, and again subtly underplaying the scar, which could easily have been overdone. Magnificent.
The amazing thing to me is, this isn't a full page spread or even a half-page, it's just one panel on a multi-panel page. She did this kind of care with almost every panel. And Jason, one of the best colorists I've ever worked with, was a stone-cold genius—that guy was one of the best in the business.

Alkyone better not be...
These three characters
Mean so very much to me
And I miss Scandal and her wives so much :(
O-O. Oh. My. God. She said "SQUEEE!!!!". She. Just. Said "SQUEEE!" I've never been so ecstatic to read this series, until now!!!!!! SCORE!!!! YESSSS!!!!!
Liana and her friends are super adorable in Secret Six. The squee-ing friend is even cuter when she squees while dressed like Harley Quinn :D
Sigh. I really miss this cast. We got to do so many things that comics normally don't get to do, at least not mainstream comics.
The books I am writing now have different casts, I love 'em, but just the sheer number of great female characters on this one page reminds me how special working on that book was. I was lucky to get to do it.

Me, too.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Dressing as Scandal Savage totally gives me the right to walk up to random gorgeous redheads and tell them I want to marry them…. right?
Oh, yeah, that's a right that predates the constitution.

"Please don't kill me"?
Please don 't make it so appealing
This scene was actually a page longer, and more graphic. At some point, it became clear that the readers would think of more horrible punishment for Dwarfstar than we could ever show, and it was better to leave it to their imaginations.
I say, smack him again, Doris.

Things that...
Gail Simone
Things that bother me a out this: the flags in the first picture ren't at half mast.
Things I love about this:
-Wondenwoman being genuinely bereft at her friend's hurt.
-Women talking about things that aren't men
-Diana's lack of nailpolish (why do I like that? no idea.)
HA!
I always felt the earrings and nail polish looked a little weird on Diana. I got the nail polish removed, but not the earrings, drat.
I think the flags ARE at half-mast, but the top of the panel cuts off the top of the flagpoles, unfortunately. If the balloon at right had been placed differently, you could see that the pole is taller.
You never know how people are going to respond to stories. This nurse, Tamika, appeared in something like four or five panels in an earlier issue, and people actually demanded she return, seriously. We got a ton of letters asking for more Tamika. So we brought her back, she even gets possessed at one point. If I'd stayed on the book, she would have been a cast regular.

does this mean Wonder Woman is ace?
I never thought of Diana as asexual. She just is inept at every aspect except the deed itself.
