It's Halloween weekend, time to post some spooky character fan art!
Black Alice by Cassandra Lovell
*****
Cassandra is so talented! She's a good example of how you can be discovered on the internet, as well…she did a lovely two page story with me for the GATHERING comic, issue number two, and I know she'd going to go on to do bigger things.
I met her at a con in Australia and she presented me with a beautiful color fully-realized Jenneatte headshot, which I will treasure forever. Fantastic. When I get home I'll scan it in!

I would love to see more of Spy Smasher and Lady Blackhawk. You can never have too much Zinda Blake.
Zinda's confrontation with Katarina in the snow in Russia is my favorite thing ever.
Then Zinda says screw it, I'm out. They point out that she's in Russia. She says she'd rather walk home.
I love Zinda.

Im Offended That Black People Can Call White People Racial Names But Us White People Cant Call Them Racial Names Back Or Its 'Discrimination'"
Some days, I just can't stop crying about all the poor, oppressed white people who can't use the "N" word.
Their brave struggle continues.
Assholes.

This is why Jeanette just is…....

This is why Jeanette just is…. :-)
Sigh.
One of the wonderful things about getting to write Secret Six was to actually get to talk about evil, REAL fucking evil, not Dr. Doom evil, in a way that superheroes never seem to confront. How we imprison people, and WHOM we imprison, says volumes about who we are as a society. Unfortunately, what it says about most societies is pretty bad.
All the things that Jeannette speaks of in Depths, they are real things that happened to real people. The dichotomy with her is, she is clearly paid for dominatrix duties that she relishes, but at the same time, she hates, HATES, to see someone's freedom taken away. When she frees Artemis, she hates doing it, but more than that, she can't allow Artemis to be shackled and abused, her conscience and memory won't allow that.
The thing about the Secret Six that makes them bearable, I always felt, was not their humor or their friendship, I think it's that each of them carries the deep scars of tragedy. You just can't get darker backstories than Catman, Jeannette, Ragdoll, Bane, Scandal, and Deadshot. The fact that they survived all those horrible pasts and have found a way to live and even thrive, I think it's a powerful and positive message that has always underlined the book and made it more than just the usual bad-guys-team-up thing.
There's been a real surge of fan buzz about Jeannette lately, I hope that means we'll get to bring her back soon. That fierce look on her face right there makes me want her back RIGHT NOW.

I can't go and see Gail Simone at London Expo so I'll just have to make loads of Fanart. I love these two so much. How do I not own every Secret Six book ever yet?
Also Jeanette and Deadshot's perfectly bad facial hair have been thrown out of the reboot so screw you DC. :/
Aw, Jeannette's not thrown out in the relaunch, she'll be back!
But I love the playfulness of this art. :)

Wow
Saw Roger Daltrey perform Tommy last night here in Portland, with an amazing band, including Simon Townshend, Pete's brother.
It was MIND-BLOWING. I saw the Who a few years back, my favorite band, this was much better. Roger acted like he had something to prove and just owned the stage and the audience. A phenomenal performance. One of the best live shows I've ever seen.
In a few hours, I leave for my first trip to England. I'm so excited!
This may be one of the best weeks of my life.

The Finger Fucking Female Fury: The Finger Fucking Female Fury's Favourite LGBT couples in comics
I like alliteration :D
So this will be a semi-regular thing I do where I talk a little bit about some of my favourite comic book couples and why I love them so much. And I thought I might as well start with one of my most favourite couples Scandal Savage and Liana
From the very first time they…
One of my very favorite scenes in the book is the double date where Deadshot, Jeannette, and Scandal sit at a dinner table and are weary, cynical, and mean.
Liana offers up a very naive but completely uncynical response…it's clear people haven't treated her well, but she forgives them and tries to find the good in everything.
And it stops the other three cold. They don't know what to say in the face of that kind of courage and optimism. More than that, it upsets them a little. I think all three see something in Liana they wish they still had for themselves.

Batgirl by Cat Staggs
Oh, holy pete. That's amazing.
I love Cat Staggs. Not only is she an amazing artist, she is just a very special person. She has a special notebook of Batwoman sketches done by some of the best artists in the business. I've been trying to get her a DC gig forever, she's just amazing.
AND she just married her longtime girlfriend in a ceremony officiated by Jane Weidlin of the Go-Go's. Now how cool is THAT?
