“Quicksand” is Coming

The manuscript for

The manuscript for “Quicksand”

Happy Holidays!

It’s been a loooong time since I’ve posted. There’s been a lot of stuff going on in my life, but suffice it to say that things are going well. What matters most is that the sequel to Whirlwind, titled Quicksand, is being prepped for publishing! It’s been a long time coming, but I’m targeting a spring release.

Are you ready for more Melissa and Jason? How about a little taste now?

From the upcoming book jacket:

International Short Story Day

Today is the summer equinox, and also International Short Story Day. On the shortest night of the year (or day, for those of you down under), we’re celebrating short stories. And the best part? You can read my vampire romance short story for free (CLICK HERE).

As a writer, I find short stories very challenging, especially if they are not related to an existing novel. Starting a new story, defining the world it takes place in, and introducing new characters in a short story format can be challe...

Which Avenger are you?

The family made it to the theater last weekend to watch the comic-book-based adventure “The Avengers,” and it was a blast. Violent – yes – but in more of that comic book kind of way. Lots of alpha males, special effects galore, and school-yard humor made it a fun family outing for my teens.

I really enjoyed the “new” superheroes I got to meet. Hawkeye and Black Widow were two who were new to me. I loved how Black Widow held her own in a room full of testosterone-driven egomaniacs. And her supe...

It’s MAY Already?

Man, I’d intended to take a couple months off and finish the sequel to Whirlwind, tentatively titled Quicksand, then get back to the Internet world.

Obviously, I lost track of time!

First, Quicksand: I underestimated how complicated my little romantic suspense would get! Quicksand is currently looking like it’s going to be around 25% longer than Whirlwind – at least in the first draft. Whirlwind was 19 chapters, Quicksand is rolling up to 23. More Jason, more Melissa, a little more Mitch, and s...

Tis the Season

December is a crazy month for the DeJarnett household. Rather than regale you with my to do list (I'm sure you've got a lot of long ones yourself) how about a musical commiseration, courtesy of Straight No Chaser:

We were lucky enough to see this talented group in concert last night, and it was a really nice break. What do you do to take a little break during the hectic holiday season? Do you have a favorite song or carol that keeps you going?

Still time to enter Kindle Fire: Out of the Box

Here in the US, we're celebrating Thanksgiving today. Contrary to popular belief, it's not just about food, football, and sales. It's about being thankful for life, family, and friends.  I have a lot to be thankful for!

In addition to my loving family and friends, I'm also thankful for all those who put their lives on the line every day, not the least of which are our servicemen and women in harm's way. Whether a soldier overseas or a firefighter down the street, I'm thankful for the...

Handsome Villains

Is Rik Young too handsome to be a villain? (photo from IMDB)

I don't know about you, but I love an evil villain. Someone who's conniving, creepy, and just plain mean – you know, the break-in-and-kill-the-family-pet-for-fun kind of evil.

My question for you today: is this guy, who's so bad on the inside, good looking on the outside? Do you like your villains sexy?

And a follow up question for you: Is a handsome killer more creepy than a plain or ugly one?

Thank you to the handsome Rik Young for b...

Thank You, Veterans

PFC Derek McConnell and his mom, Siobhan

You may remember when I asked for prayers and well wishes for one very special veteran, PFC Derek McConnell. I'm happy to report that after over 100 days in the hospital, he's looking forward to entering the rehabilitation phase of his recovery. Go Derek!

On July 23, 2011, Derek stepped on an IED in Afghanistan and in an
instant, lost both his legs and suffered numerous other severe injuries,
including a skull fracture. It was touch and go for Derek for a ...

NaNoWriMo What?

You might have seen people (authors) talking about the magical mystical thing called NaNoWriMo recently and wondered what the heck it is. No it's not text speak for something illegal or immoral, it's short hand for NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth. Every November a call is put out to writers everywhere to stop, drop and write. Many of us are talk about that book idea that's a guaranteed best seller, but until it's on "paper" it's just a pipe dream. The point of NaNoWriMo is to wake us up and get ...
