May Your Muse Flog You Hard
Unbelievably, NaNoWriMo starts in two days. Considering I’ve said in the past I wasn’t the biggest fan of it, I can’t say I’m overly excited. I mean, writing a novel in 30 days is hard. I still don’t understand why people looking to write a novel feel the need to write 50K in 30 days, all the while ignoring the other 335 days of the year. 1– Competed in an organized, sanctioned water ski race.

New Week
Okay, so draft V.1.5 of my collaborative effort with Eric Brown was sent back to him last night. I added some stuff, changed a character name, and basically padded the word count a little. Still a short novel, but now it’s climbing into that “full length” range that we had intended it to be. Still has room for more additions, but overall I’m fairly pleased with the effort.

Fall is in the air! How do I know? Because it was freezing this morning when I took Sophie out on our walk.

Just A Quick October Update
So I, uh, got a dog this weekend.

Anyway, her name is Sophie and I got her from the Roanoke Valley SPCA. She’s a hound/German Shepard mix and a gorgeous red color. 3 1/2 years old, housebroken, trained, big, lazy, friendly dog who likes walks.

The Accidental Lecture
I sent offHomeworld: Rockfallto my coauthor Eric Brown yesterday afternoon. The first draft is done (yeah, I was slacking) and though it “only” took about 5 weeks to write, that was a rough five weeks.

Puffified
So apparently I am very, very allergic to poison ivy.
Last week I was helping out in Mimi’s garden, planting mums and helping dig up some weeds. I knew there was a little poison ivy in the flower bed (I’d planted other mums a week before) but I had thought I got most of them out.
I was wrong.
I got a double dose of poison ivy (Tuesday and Friday) and now I’m… well, splotchy and puffy are two of my favorite terms right now. 160 mg of prednisone hasn’t even touched it, and anytime warm water touch...

I realized that I can’t post a review ofThe Doctor and the Dinosaurs (Mike Resnick) yet due to the simple fact that it won’t be published until December. So, uh, yeah… whoops?
