The War Has Just Begun

A declaration of war is a big thing, somethingone does not declare without considering the ramifications.

The decision took me about seventeen seconds this morning.

I have really bad neighbors who live above me. They’re two college girls who have lots of parties, smoke wayyy too much and seem to be running a brothel out of one of their bedrooms. They also have a dog who, despite all things, is rather well-trained and pretty decently behaved. I’ve learned, living beneath them, that two barks from...

Needs Must

I should be asleep but since I ran a quick road trip yesterday to Soldier’s Retreat, I slept last night. For 12 hours.

Apparently I was tired.

Hill 142is mostly done. I need to polish it up a bit, but overall I’m happy with it.The Gods Anointedis… uh… weird. It wants to be done but when I read it, I know it’s not. Strange. Like a soufflé that keeps threatening to burn but you know if you pull it out of the ovennowit’s going to sink…

Heading home either late tonight or early tomorrow. Quick weeke...

Yay Success! Now Get Off My Lawn.

Update. Right. Forgot.

SoA Promise Madeis going to be in the nextSha’Daaanthology, currently titledFacets. I also was trying to squeak a second story in but I couldn’t really get it to work. It came off as a monologue but the story structure needed to be more of a script (transcript, diary, screenplay, etc). I was a little annoyed with myself for not being able to wrap my mind around the structure (I wanted a script, sinceA Promise Madeis more of a journal, and I hate duplicating myself). I gu...

Too Much

Hill 142 is the mostvexing, emotionally draining thing I have written in a very long time, possibly since a particularly draining scene inCorruptor. It’s not just emotionally draining, but it bringsto theforefront the true heroes and losses during a war. The armchair Rangers and CoD kids who think it’s all a game and that they’d step up and be the hero whenever they want? Yeah.It can be a little harder when you know that there’s the potential nobody’s going to remember anything that you do th...

Sold!

Ah, the weekend. Well, the beginning of mine, at least.

The Tree of Death and Lifehas been accepted into theHeroes Allanthology, which is super cool because it is the sequel toNightwalker, which is in an entirely different anthology (Terror By Gaslight), which are both being put out by theteam-upof Fantom Enterprises/Perseid Press. I do love writing about Dr. Tobias Fox, so getting in is exciting news. Now that that one is in I get to really start hammering down onHill 142, which is an alt-his...

Tastes Like Chicken

You ever read a book and find yourself thinking “I’ve read this before” as you turn through every page, every character reminiscent of a long-lost friend?

Well, yeah, okay… sequels. Easy enough, right? You know the characters already (from previous novels) while being introduced to new, exciting ones (you can only hope).

But have you ever read a book that is a stand-alone and you suddenly realize that the author used these same exact characters (albeit with different names) in an entirely diffe...

Exist-ish

Thirteen incomplete short stories, six incomplete book reviews, eight incomplete novels, four novels in dire need of an edit, and I’m sitting around playingCivilization V.

I really have no excuse for laziness.

It’s not like I getboredwith a novel and move on or anything. I just take a break from it because it’s moving too fast for me (basically, brain going faster than I can type, which sucks) and I need to catch my breath. I’m one of those authors who write frantically then feel as though they...

The Planning Stages for World Domination (and kitties)

I oftentimes wonder just what goes into the business planning of a small, successful publishing house. Not because I plan on taking them all over eventually (no, of course not, not me…) but because I wonder how they set up their distribution into bookstores. I mean, I know that they have to get in with one of the big distributors (Simon & Scheuster, Ingram, Baker & Taylor), but how does one go about doing this? Can you imagine what sort of letter is sent? I mean, it must be as bad as loan app...

HWA Possibility

Two years later, Tom Kratman isstillthe most popular person on my website. Damn you, Colonel.

I had no small amount of glee after watching Kentucky lose to Robert Morris in the opening round of the NIT. Last year Kentucky fans were insufferable after rolling through the NCAA tournament. I guess this year was karma and all that, because I see a lot of people moping around and being miserable and insufferable… huh. Maybe it’s just Kentucky?

Yes, Ball State did not go to the NCAA tournament this y...

No Review, No Problem

I was set to review John Ringo’sTiger by the Tail today and… I couldn’t. I literally had such a bad review mentally written that I couldn’t bring myself to actuallydoit. I know thePaladin of Shadowsis a really “silly” series (okay,Ghostis… the others following weren’tthatbad), butTiger by the Tailtakes the absurdity to an entirely different level.

I need to get it done this week, though. I don’t think I’m going to be able to get through Kevin J. Anderson’sHidden Empire. It’s very, very dull. An...
