Pre-Orders Now Available
Eric S. Brown and I wrote a short story called “Best Laid Plans” for John Ringo’sBlack Tide Risinganthology, due out next year (June 7, 2016). It’s available for pre-order now at Amazon, and I finally saw the final cover.
Looks good.
I’ve always wanted a Kurt Miller cover, even if it’s not precisely “mine”.

Sophie
At 5:10 PM Eastern time last night, my beloved Sophie crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Growing up in group homes, I never had a pet of my own. In retrospect it’s understandable, because most kids aren’t in one particular location for a long time. Back then, however, I was angry and mad that all the other kids talked about their pets at “home” (most of the kids were in the group homes for short term, while I was a long term kid). I got a cat when I was 13 and in my first foster home (Max is awesome...

Cat Scratch Fever
There is nothing like being woken up in the morning by screaming and grabbing your face because your cat just clawed it’s way across it while running from the dog.
After much blood and some swear words it was decided that I did not need stitches (thankfully) and the worst injury I had was a punctured lip. While painful, it’s not debilitating. It did, however, convince me that I might start closing the bedroom door at night to avoid all of this. I don’t know why the dog hates this one kitten s...

Strange Books
I’ve had this migraine since the morning I wrote my last entry, and it’s beginning to piss me off (the migraine, not the last blog entry). It has slowed my writing down enough that I’m starting to question the sanity of writing 3 books at the same time. Fortunately, I’m not having any problems keeping the proper characters in their respective novel, so yay me.
Been getting some strange books to review lately forShiny Book Review. For some reason, publishers are sending us the second and third...

Accounting
Hey, it’s October!
That means fall colors, cooler weather and white girls with pumpkin spice everything.
I’m buckling down on the off chance that a hurricane hits me this weekend and preparing to go gung-ho over the next 31 days to completeKraken Mare. I’ve been pretty slack these past few days (been battling a cold that was gifted to me; that will teach me to kiss someone who just got their flu shot) but, if you ask the readers, that never matters. You are a creator — you create, or you star...

Break Time
I’m taking a break fromKraken Maretoday to let you know that I finally finishedSupersymmetry, a novel by David Walton. I talked about the first book of the series earlier this year (Superposition) and how that one was definitely going on my Hugo nomination list for next year. I may need to reconsider that, though, and nominate both books simultaneously. I know there’s a precedence for it (Wheel of Time series) but I’m not entirely sure if a duology counts.
Nonetheless, Walton is a very good w...

Story Sold (Part Deux)
So last week I signed and mailed off a contract for an anthology that I was keeping quiet about because it’s a pretty big thing. I talked to the editor and was given the OK to go ahead and let it out publicly.
Eric S. Brown (yes, that guy again :)) and I sold our short story “Best Laid Plans” to John Ringo’s upcoming anthology,Black Tide Rising, (Baen Books) which is set in his NYT bestselling series of the same name (which features the booksIsland of Rage and Hope, To Sail a Darkling Sea, et...

Contract Signed
This one had me doing my happy dance. I’m not posting specific details about it until the contract is mailed off, however (which will happen tomorrow).
Don’t bother going to my bibliography, either. I know better than… wait (double-checks).
Yeah, I know better than that.

Kraken Mare Progress
I haven’t forgotten about the site. I’ve been writing, I swear!
Kraken Marehas exploded this week, cracking the 50% complete mark after a massive rewrite of, well, everything (unofficial word count of this book — including rewrites — surpasses 75,000) but everything is clear to me now just what has to happen, how it’s going to happen, and why.
Now, if I can just figure out the ending before I get there…
There are some minor characters I’m not certain what to do with yet — primarily Emery Holo...

Rainy Weekend
So apparently Dragoncon was a bit crazy this weekend… while that was going on, I was enjoying the beach. Well, I was enjoying the rain while at the beach. Okay, there wasn’t much enjoyment going on while watching the rain while at the beach.
Should have gone to Dragoncon.
#TorpedoesfortheTroops went off amazingly well, with over $3500 raised in 36 hours. During the “dead dog” shift (0300-0800) Trobsmonkey and I had a lot of fun, got him drunk, and raised quite a bit of money. Thanks for all t...
