The Week That Was
This week was a long one.
Too much snow. Not enough sleep. Brain in overdrive trying to figure out the teeter totter of life.
So much going on from the big to the little, that it felt right to do a quick recap post since there is so much I haven’t shared.
Like most of the country (maybe world?) I jumped on the newest season of House of Cards. No surprise, I loved it. The fact that they left so much unanswered will keep me and all the other fans eager for more. Hopefully they don’t wait too long...

The Power of Wondering and the Importance of Girls
The most beautiful thing about the world we live in is that there is a never ending stream of amazing things happening around the globe. Technology allows us to experience them even if we are not there in person.
Last week, I sat at my desk in Boston and listened to a powerful conversation between Melinda Gates and Hilary Clinton. To make it even more inspiring, it was moderated by Chelsea Clinton.
It was part of The Clinton Foundation’s #NoCeiling initiative and the focus was on the importance...

When an Idea Clicks
Yesterday, I spoke at thePR Advanced #FuelTheFuture Conference at Boston University.
Giving the opening keynote is always the best slot for me because I live to inspire an audience and as I joked on stage yesterday I “was their coffee.”
What was amazing was that as I looked back on the event, I found myself as inspired as many of the attendees told me and I wanted to capture my thoughts in a new podcast.
I’m sorry if today’s episode of Managing the Gray feels more self-promoting than it should b...

Looking Back At Facebook and Where it Goes Next
Ten years ago today, Facebook was created.
Since then it has grown to a worldwide site that millions of people go to every day, multiple times a day to share anything and everything.
If you haven’t seen it yet, every user has a Look Back video waiting for them. For some reason they decided not to allow you to share or like your own video, so I had to capture mine to show to other people.
(Update – Since I wrote this they’ve added a share button)
What prompted this post was a company asking me wha...

Simplicity in a Bowl of Soup and a Magazine
The house is silent except for the slow passing by of cars trying hard not to slide on the freshly fallen snow.
Dylan is in the other room watching a video on the computer. His headphones don’t allow any noise to leak.
Mondays are a night when we rarely eat together due to dance lessons, workouts and schedules that don’t sync. These are also the nights that you’ll find me cooking something in a single pot that can be enjoyed at different times by all who are hungry.
I sat down at the kitchen pen...

What Happens Next You Have To See
Building something you believe in from the ground up is rarely an easy task.
A year ago, when I first heard the idea behind YSN and GO I couldn’t shake how right it felt. The months would roll by and I kept thinking about it and how it had all the components of something amazing.
There was a solid business model, a team of talented people and a clear goal of making the world a better place.
The past two days I’ve been in Washington, DC with some of our team. There were multiple conversations wit...

Know Thyself
My morning began with finding out a close friend’s father had passed away. It was followed shortly with a sick child. It is still early enough that I’m wondering what the third thing might be.
Some may say “typical Monday,” but I don’t look at any day differently than another. Each that I’m above ground is a good one in my book.
I’ve been looking at the social streams that I’ve decided to sit on the banks of and have been clearing them out more than usual.
The weekend full of links, lists and lo...

Scott Sigler’s Pandemic Spreads to Boston
Watching a long-time friend like author Scott Sigler rise in popularity warms my heart.
We first got to know one another in the early days of podcasting and have been friends ever since.
Scott is a hell of a writer and I’m a big fan of his work.
He is known for sick and twisted tales that are full of characters that you instantly connect with. Some you’ll hate. Some you’ll love. Where your mind gets messed up is you never know when one of your favorites is going to die (or how).
Based on technolo...

Faces of Ghana – My First Photo Essay Using Storehouse
As a storyteller, I’m always looking at new ways to share the stories I want to tell.
From the moment I first installed the Storehouse app on my iPad I wanted to use it.
The mixed media ability and the beautiful user interface found me looking through new photo essays every morning and wondering when I should give it a try.
After getting up early this morning to snow-blow the driveway for Laura to get to work, I decided to put together my first photo essay using the photographs I took on my 2012...

Social Misery Loves Company
This weekend was a great one surrounded by people I love and care about.
After it was all done and back into the mix of the world I saw a trend that I didn’t like and had to record a new episode of Managing the Gray to remind people that the old phrase of “misery loves company” is even worse in the social world we live in.
Here is the article I wrote about Emily this morning that I reference in the podcast.
Funny thing is, as I am typing this I saw someone shared the post. Guess I was wrong abou...
