Where Bloggers Blog – My Office

CC Chapman Office - Summer 2013

Friend and photographer Karen Walrond was inspired to start a new project calledWhere Bloggers Blog.

It is a site for bloggers to share where they do their writing. It even got picked up by Laughing Squid!

Being a big fan of home offices, I instantly fell in love with it and shared this photo of mine.

Originally, I thought I should clean it up before taking the photo, but in reality it is usually a bit messy so I opted to take the photo without fixing anything.

Have fun taking a peek behind the c...

How to Book More Speaking Opportunities

CC-Chapman-SocialFresh13

Recently I was in San Diego for the first time giving the opening talk of Social Fresh West. A special thanks to Adam Wallaceof Sphericalfor taking the photo above of me on that stage.

Being on stage is one of my happiest places because I was born to teach and love interacting with an audience no matter the size.

Among all the conversations I had with people at the event, several people asked about how they could get more speaking engagements so I thought I’d share my answer with everyone.

1. Ho...

Road Reviews – Capture Camera Clip v2 and ShaveTech USB Electric Razor

roadreview-capture-shavetech

Product reviews are something I enjoy doing. Being given the opportunity to try out a new product and share my honest thoughts with the world has always been fun for me.

Recently, I had two new products given to me just in time for me to bring them on the road and put them to the test. Trying out products at home is one thing, but putting them through the paces on the road when I’m traveling is where I really get to see if they work or not.

In full disclosure, these products were given to me fo...

2013 Hambletonian

2013 Hambletonian

In my mind, horse racing has always been a sport that anyone can bet on, but only rich people get excited about.

After spending this past weekend at the Meadowlands Racetrack, all the conversations I had with a variety of people and getting to watch this years Hambletonian in person my perception has changed. (at least a little)

The Hambletonian is “the Superbowl of harness racing”, I was told over and over. It is the single biggest race for the sport in the United States and draws people aroun...

My First Taste of Harness Racing

Hambo13 Sulky

Before arriving in New Jersey yesterday, I knew almost nothing about the sport and history of harness racing. Until I was invited to cover The Hambletonian I knew very little.

Turns out that it is a pretty big deal in many parts of the globe. Both Sweden and France love it. There are even equestrian tours that go around the globe to visit farms, tracks and races.

The first thing I noticed when I got to The Meadowlands Racetrack is the old school vibe of the place. You know that it has been here...

What I’m Packing to Cover The Hambletonian

gear-for-hambo13

Tomorrow I’m on an early flight to get me to the first press event for The Hambletonian and then I’ll be spending the rest of the week at the racetrack learning and sharing everything I can about the event.

Being hired to cover something instantly adds more pressure than just being invited to attend something.

While I always want to do a good job, when there is money involved you have to step everything up a notch.

Yesterday was gear day as I decided what was coming with me and what was staying....

The Marketing Value of Pictures vs. Photographs

One of the topics I discussed while teaching a section of creativeLIVE’s Social Media Bootcamp was the difference between pictures and photographs.

Joe’s Taco Lounge & Salsaria

Joes Taco Lounge

You may not know it, but I have a serious love for fish tacos.

I don’t know why, but on any given day I can easily sit down and enjoy several of these beauties.

Even after eating amazing food around the world, a simple fish taco with a cold drink and a friendly conversation is hard to beat.

Last week my buddy Matt took me to Joe’s Taco Lounge in Mill Valley, California. He promised me that it would be one of the best fish tacos I’d ever have. He was right.

It is a small joint on a nondescript str...

Standing Among Giants

Standing Among Giants

Yesterday, after teaching my class at creativeLIVE, my good friend Matt grabbed me to show me “his San Francisco.”

My camera is always with me, so we went straight from the studio to Muir Woods National Monument.

It is impossible to fully appreciate the beauty of a redwood forest until you are standing among these silent giants.

I’m still grinning from the short time we spent walking among them. I could have spent the whole day there even if I wasn’t quite dressed right to be playing in the wood...

Headed to The Hambletonian

The Hambletonian

“What do you know aboutThe Hambletonian?”

That was how a recent phone call started for me. My answer was simply “nothing, what is it?”

I would learn that The Hambletonian is an annual harness horse race dating back to 1926. It is considered one of the world’s top horse racing events and has the highest payout of any race of it’s type.

I have fond memories of watching harness races when I was growing up. Every year we’d go to the Vermont State Fair. At some point in the afternoon we’d take a brea...
