America, We Have a Gun Problem
Yesterday, another ten people were shot and killed while attending classes in Oregon.
Before the end of the year (sadly probablyeven the month) there will be more innocent people killed by someone angry and armed somewhere in America.
The statistics around gun violence in America hurt to see.
Guns have a place in our society.
I grew up in small town New Hampshire and remember how excited I was to go through Hunter Safety with all of my friends. It was a right of passage.
At Boy Scout camp, o...

Time For The Topsfield Fair
The Universe has a funny way of listening to what you want and delivering it in unique ways.
At the beginning of the summer, our family put together what we called our “beach bucket list.” It included activities we wanted to do and places we wanted to go over the course of the summer.
One that Emily mentioned wanting to do was to visit an old-fashioned country fair. While she has been to them as a little kid, she doesn’t remember them and with her love of animals wanted to experience it all...

Fall Television Is Here And I’m Already Behind
The DVR is a beautiful invention and without it and my on-demand services from Verizon FiOS I don’t think I’d ever watch television due to our busy schedules.
With two teenagers in the house and four very different tastes in programming, we seem to have a list of shows which are for me and my wife, my son and I or for the whole family.
More than once Laura and I have sat down and asked ourselves, “Do we have anything WE can watch?”
This morning as I realized I had not written my monthly post...

Family Fun Weekends at King Richard’s Faire
Growing up playing countless hours of Dungeons and Dragons, combined with a love of the theatre and Shakespeare gave me a love of renaissance faires.
Over the years I’ve attended many of them and it has become a family tradition to spend a fall weekend at King Richard’s Faire here in Carver, Massachusetts.
Their media team has hooked me up with free tickets over the last few years and it is a trip the kids are always excited for. This year they asked if we could get a couple of extra tickets...

When Your Children Suddenly Become High Schoolers
The house is strangely quiet.
It shouldn’t feel weird since on any other day for the last couple of months it would be just as quiet with the kids still in bed sleeping.
But, today is different. Today is the start of a new month and a new chapter in our lives. The start of a new school year in which I find both of my kids attending High School.
This day always hits me hard. Today is worse than usual.
The reality that there will only be one more back to school breakfast and photo shoot with b...

Oh MTV, You Still Make VMA Magic…
Watching the MTV Video Music Awards is something I’ve always done.
I love the creativity shown through music videos and back when MTV showed them on a regular basis I’d quite often leave the channel on for hours on end.
Last night, me and the kids kicked back to watch the spectacle that is the #VMAs.
The performances are always over the top, the on stage hijinks always lead to conversation and you just never know when a boob (or Prince ass cheeks) is going to pop out on camera.
Kanye West re...

Technology Could Help Keep Teen Drivers Safer
This morning marks another parenting milestone for me. The day my first child gets their drivers license.
It has only been a few hours since I saw his smiling face after passing the driving test.I’m excited for him, but also scared to death. I know how many distracted and bad drivers there are out there on the roads.
As a lover of technology, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I’d love to see car manufacturers and cell phone makers work together to make the time our teenagers spend in the ca...

Samsung Portable SSD T1 Hard Drive Has Made Me a Fan
Some days it feels like I live out of an aisle seat. Running between gates, finding power where I can and dealing with idiot passengers is the story of my life.
If you see me in an airport, you’ll always see my trustyGORUCK GR0 with me and the contents inside rarely change since only the most critical things are allowed in there.
You’ll find my iPad, Field Notes notebook, a couple of magazines, a Cliff Bar, flashlight, laptop, cable bag, Jackery charger, portable hard drive and my camera gea...

Don’t Let Humility Be Your Downfall
Speaking to audiences of all sizes is something I love doing.
Recently, I was asked to speak at CreativeMornings Boston around the theme of “Humility.”
It was one of my favorite talks I’ve ever given and I hope you enjoy it.

Inspiring my children to live their life to the fullest is something I strive for every single day.
But, life rarely goes as planned. The corporate ladder has fallen over, the promise of a tranquil retirement is a myth and what we love today might not exist tomorrow.
When asked to share an inspirational quote as part of this y...
