#COFFINHOP Halloween is Here

It has been a grand week indeed! I hope you have enjoyed yourself hopping around from blog to blog learning about new stories to read and meeting new people.

I have had a blast!

The carousel is still spinning, but its slowing. The giant band organ in the center is quiet; its played the last note on the reel and needs to rewound. I doubt anyone will though.

Not because its late and past closing.

Not because dozens of crows are now perched on the canopy.

Not because the hulking man in the black dust...

Getting Spooky With Style: Horror in Television

By Leigh M. Lane

lisa1

The past few years have been good to horror fans looking for something innovative and creepy to grace their television sets. The late ‘50s and early ‘60s had The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, the ‘80s and ‘90s offered some decent contributions with Tales from the Darkside, Tales from the Crypt and, to a lesser degree, Friday the 13th: the Series. For the most part, however, good, serious horror remained on either the written...

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid

Can you splice human DNA with that of a dog, cat, or other species? Well, the Kryszka aliens of Steel Rose and my WIP, Blood Moon Rising, believe not only that it’s acceptable but that it can and should be done. They fuse DNA as routinely as a cardiothoracic specialist might do open heart surgery. Done right, both procedures work miracles. Botch the job, and you’ve got disasters – a monster with the former and a dead patient with the latter.

For a human with incurable...

Darkening room… Growing darker.

Light fades… Shadows merge.

Evil lurks… Creeping closer.

A sudden chill… Grips my soul.

Am I conscious? All is dizzy.

Where is body? Mind is bending.

Something’s calling… Overwhelming.

Falling into darkness… Never-ending.

Henry is haunted by inner demons. Demons of the mind and demons that can take physical form. Demons he calls “The Dark Horde”. Demons that are about to be unleashed upon humanity, wreaking death and disaster in their wake. Unstoppable, incomprehensibl...

mug with rembrandt croppedA real life horror story was the genesis for Blow Up the Roses, a dark suspense thriller published by the small DC area press, Curiosity Quills. I was the managing editor of The Olathe Daily News, a mid-sized paper in a suburb to Kansas City. A family lived in a house that had one of those walk-in basements from the back yard and that is where the two teenage daughters and young son slept. The parents woke one morning to a horrific scene. One daughter was dead the son had been bludgeoned and...

#COFFINHOP The Creaky Old Carousel is Spinning!

The brightly colored horses glare at you from painted eyes.

Rusty, tired gears sequel and turn the giant ride, rotating the whole structure in a rhythm not at all unlike a heartbeat…

An excited, terrified heart

The band organ in the center screams a loud tune, a happy fun song

That somehow seems out of place.

Under the inky, diamond-scattered sky,

An invisible owl hollers behind you and stand with your little red ticket in your hand,

Hoping your turn never comes.

But the massive disk begins to slow…

My new book is out and it is free!

My sci-fi horror book “The Dark Trek Home” just hit the cyber shelves and is lurking just below the murky waters… waiting for you! Featuring a stunning cover by the very talented Thomas Arensberg.

A chilling, character-driven plot. Desperate monsters. An epic journey. A little boy stuck in the middle of everything.

The Dark Trek Home

Trent’s grandfather vanished without a trace many years ago and now his brother has been found dead. Mutilated in a field. And the dead man’s son is missing. A fishing trip gone terr...
