Dreaming Up Stories Literally!

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Writing is a funny business. I never know what will spark my imagination It could be anything from a line on a TV show to a song lyric to an encounter at the grocery store to a misty morning...

to a dream.

Yep, I have actually dreamed up stories. The Assassin and the Prince, one of my fantasy novellas, is just such a tail...and tale.

While the purrsonality of feline assassin Aree owes inspiration to my former companion, Tica, that's where the connection to anything here in earth reality ends.

Cover of The Assassin and the Prince YA fantasy romance novela by Ronda Del Boccio

My Muse gifted me with an exquisitely detailed dream about this assassin who found what looked like a cush job, a short gig working for a family seeking a security guard to protect their son, who wanted to go on vacation without his parents.

Aree soon regrets her decision to take a job protecting a pampered young prince who seems to her little more than a spoiled brat of no substance.

For his part, the sheltered Crispin has never been around other sentient species, so he has a lot to learn about how to treat those who are different. (So do most humans living here on earth who need only encounter different nationalities and religions...but I digress.)

OK so I guess hat's another relation to reality.

The dream provided every detail of the story, including characters, fight scenes, conflict, and loads of funny bits. It's definit3ely a humorous paranormal story.

I will post an excerpt in a few days. You can read The Assassin and the Prince on any device. It's available both on Amazon and on Smashwords.

You never know what will come of a dream.

A Milliner, a Haberdasher, and a Scrivener Went to a Bar

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Does that sound like the beginning of an arcane joke?

The other day, somebody asked me what a haberdasher was, and I started thinking about words I haven't seen since school.

I don't recall when I first encountered Haberdasher, but I know  it was in a British story taking place a couple centuries ago. I associated it with gentlemens' hats, handkerchiefs, and the like.  The Canterbury Tales includes 3 of the notions peddlers.

Cool Words ya Just Don't See Anymore

I don't remember my first literary encounter with a milliner, but since ladies' hat-making isn't that big these days, it was also in an older story.

Where I met "scrivener" sticks out clearly inmy mind. IT was in a super-annoying story I had to read in sophomore year of high school, "Bartleby the Scrivener.." Maybe it says something that the story stuck out for well north of 3 decades, but not for the right reason. Scribes back in the day, writers in more modern parlance.

Here are a few other words I first met in grade school that aren't used in the same aspect today.

Ginger, as in careful (not the root),
Ecstasy as in supreme joy (not drugs), and
Elated, as in overjoyed (close cousin to ecstatic).

What out-of-date or out-of-time words do you remember from school? Add them to the comments below.

If you love words, come play Word Streak, Word Chums, or Words with Friends with me.

Live the Plan: 2 Easy Ways to Boost Motivation

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

I've had such a good time using a paper planner, decorating it with fun stickers, and being creative while I stay on task. But I recently discovered that a lot of people who ove creating a plan fall short on living the plan.

I'm a "plantser." Yes, I plan some things, but I can't be rigid. It just isn't in my nature. I'm also a "pantser" going by the seat of my pants. I think you can be both and have a super happy life, somewhat planned and organized and somewhat free-flowing and intuitive.

One of my planner friends said her issue was motivation. She said, "I have no real excuse."

No judgment here. Please don't call yourself lazy or any similar word if you fall into this category.

I gave it some deep thought, and I think the motivation issue may arise because of being too hard on yourself. Here is a video with 2 quick tips to help you live the plan! Watch now!

If you could use some help shifting into an abundant mindset, my friends (yes, really we're friends) Chief Robert & Terri Lynn TallTree have created a wonderful program called the Miracle Mindshift Month. My world changed a lot when I took this program!

Living My Weekly Focus: Stewardship

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

In case this is new to you, each week I'm focusing on a word or idea, and this past week has been all about stewardship.

This was a fantastic focus for me. I considered whether decisions on what to do, buy, and experience was a wise use of my various resources.

Weekly Intention Focus for week of 1/1-7, 2017: Stewardship

It helped me be more thoughtful about bringing into my life experience elements that make me happy and use what I have well.

It affected me in little ways. For example, I was watching a movie I didn't enjoy, and rather than continue being dissatisfied watching it, I decided it wasn't entertaining and meant a poor use of my time resource. Had I been entertained, I would have continued.

I chose against a couple of purchases that, while cool, really wouldn't bring me closer to an experience I wanted, or happiness, or anything else.

What if everything you did moved you into a blissful life? How would that change things?
