Ronda’s Author Life Update Feb 6, 2018
I'm writing this February 12th. Yeah...I'm late. I promised you an update the first Tuesday of the month.
OK, so I blew off my own editorial calendar.
Sorry!
No excuses other than I SUCK at time. We keep having this weird weather pattern. It's in the 60s, then 3 days later, it's ice that shuts everything down. Then back up into the 60s, then back to ice.
It's CRAZED.
This month is busy for me.
Speaking at Author Book Signing Event
Saturday, I was part of the 6th annual Meet the Authors Festival in my nearby town. I'm on the committee, and this year I was also a speaker. I talked about Psychic Self Defense. My upcoming book provided the inspiration. I shared a reading from They All Died Smiling about when Kassidy Spence sees a guy with a negative spirit attachment munching down his life energy, then I shared stories and simple techniques the average person can use to help protect yourself from supernatural baddies.

Attending Writing Conference - with Table
If you're in the Branson, Missouri area, we can get together at the quarterly Ozarks Writers League writing conference Feb. 17-17. I'll have my greeting cards and artwork for sale there. This is always a good event for me, because I get to hang out with others who are involved in the solitary, gnarly work of writing books. I always learn something, for sure, and I sometimes make a good connection. I often deepen a friendship.

I was a nerdy teenager who so often wished I could swirl around and activate my Wonder Woman powers. Ted Finley is a nerdy guy trying to navigate the horrors of high school like any other teen. He ends up with a few extra challenges...like dealing with a gang of thugs attacking the restaurant where he was eating, suddenly gaining super human abilitities, dealing with friends who weren't so friendly and foes who weren't so fiendish, and trying to save people.

Here's why this book worked fo rme as a reader.
Fun, witty dialogue
I grew up on vintage Doctor Who (back whenthe Doctor's dialogue was much more entertaining) and Star Wars I currently love shows sich as Lucifer. So you can guess I love witty dialogue. maybe it's also partly because I'm blind an d an author, so the wound of words and how dialogue rolls off the tongue mean a lot to me. In any case, I really appreciate characters who talk in an engaging manner.
Superhero stories are supposed to have some fun mixed in with thethrills and spills, and this book definitely delivers.
Plenty of thrills and action
Those of us who love superhero stories by definition love the action that goes with them. Let' just say that Ted's high school doesn't fare well in this adventure.
Characters bigger than life yet relatable
Teenage angst abounds in this book and series. Love, lust, teacher troubles, and trying to live an ordinary life while dealing with extraordinary circumstances fill the pages. The characters are ordinary people in many ways, yet at the same time, anything but average. As if being a teenager isn't hard enough!
One of the things Ted discovers is that he can fly. Sort of.
Bumpy road to super heroism
One thing readers of superhero tales enjoys is to take the journey of our budding hero as he learns how to handle his power. Ted sure doesn't have it easy. While navigating the usual trials and tribulations of high school, he's also learning the heights and limits of his burgeoning abilities.
Good pacing
The Dark Souls is well paced, with opportunites to get to know the characters a bit better sprinkled between the trills and action.

eSight Eyewear Electronic Glasses Unboxing
Here is the object of my own personal miracle. Two anonymous donors gave me eSight Eyewear, which are electronic glasses that make it possible for me to see WAY more than I can without them. I will share this story in detail soon.
The glasses are Time Magazine's "25 Best Inventions of 2017" (see article source) and have garnered a great deal of media attention.

January Writing Career Goals for Ronda Del Boccio
Happy 2018,! Here are a few of my goals relevant to being an author. Next month, I'll give you an update on how I did.
Bring They All Died Smiling to publication with The Wild Rose Press.: We're hot on the trail with final edits happening and imminent release.
Finish reading through/tweaking my fantasy suspense novel Deadly Mist in preparation for submission. This is a drastic revision of a book published under a different name some years ago.
Write three chapters of Diva's Tail: A Memoir of Love and Trust. This is the story of the union and early life of me and my golden retriever guide dog.

isn'tmy cover artist amazing??? I am ThRILLED! Quite frankly, I was so anxious about what they would do to my cover. I had some ideas, but I'm no artist, and I was terrified I'd hate it.
Debbie's muse or myt muse or the stars or divinity or my guardian angel or SOMETHING was definitely helping her make the perfect representation for the book. Beyond the cool looks, there's some hidden meaning that I won't discuss YET. Just perfect IMO.

My 2018 Book Projects
My plate is definitely full t his year, and that's the way I like it! Here's what's going on for me in 2018.
They All Died Smiling will come innto the world soon via The Wild Rose Press. I inted to speak to book clubs, paranormal groups, psychic enthusiasts, metaphysical bokstores, and similar groups. I'm looking for joint venture partners who can plus what I do so we can all reach more people by working together. This book is the first in the Reluctant Demon Hunter Series.
Hypnotic Deception the sequel to They All Died Smiling in which Kassidy faces down an enemy she discovered in the first book. I am about a third of the way through the first draft of this one.
Diva's Tail: A Memoir of Love and Trust shares how my gorgeous golden retriever guide dog, Diva, nad I came together. 'll share my experiences at Leader Dogs for the Blind, her prison upbringing, and our early months together. At this point, I have an outline a couple fo chapters
Quick Tricks and Hacks for Authors: Not sure what the title will be yet, but this is a book of a bunch of hacks, reminders, nad time-saving tricks I use to help me, and I'm hoping they'll help authors as well.
Deadly Mist is a fantasy suspense novel, first in a series, about a teenage Faerie who got trapped in the mortal womb while still inside her mother. This tale has many twists and surprises. This book is complete. Right now I'm reading through the hole thing front to back to make any needed tweaks while I send it off to seek publication.
So as you can tell, I'll be a busy writer this year!

They All Died Smiling Editing Woes
The path to publishing is paved with a lot of coffee, eyestrain, and repetitive proofreading. of my entire book front to back AND back to front. There's an editing department, but SHEESH, it feels like nobody else has put eyes on my book once it passed my content editor except me.

"Galleys"
Galleys, or galley proofs, represent that stage between the final content editing and publishing. This is the time to work out any weird fomating glitches, find errors, and fix things up so that the book is as clean as possible before it goes live.
I'm on round 2, and there will be 1 last round.
Now it's proofreading time in preparation for publishing, and it's pretty much up to the blind girl. I've found errors. Some I legitimately madeand missed in the gillion times I've gone through this book, and others came from the transmutation process somehow. But I've learned a couple of really useful things.
The publisher suggests reading the book from last page to first in order to catch boo-boos. I did that, and it's helpful, but I've found an even better way to proofread.
I am getting really sick of reading my own book. I'm on my second time going through it BACKWARDS. I've also listened to the speech program read it, read it aloud last page to first, read oit silently last page to first, and now...
Proofreading Hack
Backwards, paragraph by paragraph.
This little hack is helping me find errors I missed when I read backwards by page, so the book will be that much cleaner.

“Risa?”
She opened her eyes to a smile that lacked only a canary feather between the man’s lips to indicate self-satisfaction. Looking sour, Hector Cocom stood beside him.
Miguel cocked an eyebrow suggestively. “You are weary this morning?”

“You could help me.”
“If you mean guide you to Mérida, I cannot.”

Paranormal Urban Fantasy Book Cover Reveal: They All Died Smiling by Ronda Del Boccio
The journey of writing a book and getting it published takes plenty of twists and turns. I have had such a wonderful experience with my editor, Ally Robertson, at The Wild Rose Press, and now I am thrilled to reveal the AMAZING cover art by Debbie Taylor.
The cover artist did a wonderful job crawling inside my head and pulling out the deeper messages of the book along with some cover ideas I had but couldn't draw myself. Definitely, a Muse provided some inspiration...perhaps even a couple of Archangels!

NaNoWriMo 2017 Here I Come!
November is National Novel Writing Month. Why November, which is short and has a major holiday weekend, I don't know...but I wrote the first draft of They All Died Smiling, and this year, I'm working on the sequel,
The challenge is to pound out the first draft of a novel, roughly 50,000 words, during a month. This means a lot of butt in seat, a lot of planning, and a whole lot of focus. And I'm up to the challenge again.
