Don’t Just Plan: LIVE the plan Video tutorial

I have learned that a lot of people who love planning aren't that great about making their plans a reality. That loses the point of planning.

Now, I'm a plantser...half planner, half pantser (as in "seat of the pants" in case that didn't make sense). I get most of the things I set out to do done. Not all, of course. Life happens sometimes, but most.

So if you can allow the blind to lead you, watch this video!

Here are the resources I mention in the video:

Ronda’s Weekly Focus Intention: Stewardship Jan 8-14, 2017

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Each week on Sunday night  I choose an intention to keep front and center in my thoughts and intentions. This word or phrase goes in my weekly planner layout just below the calendar, at the moment.

This week, I am focusing on stewardship.

Weekly Intention Focus for week of 1/1-7, 2017: Stewardship

Stewardship is about responsible management of resources. As I go through the week, I will pay attention on how I spend (use) my resources, such as time, money, home, energy, health, relationships, and giving back

As I get ready to prepare food, I ask myself what my vessel (body) needs for optimal health and energy. As I consider spending money, I am asking if that purchase will wisely employ my financial resources.

My overall question to myself is: Will doing/having this bring me closer to something I WANT to experience. Nice tie-back to last week's intent.

Wise stewardship is not about scarcity or fear. It's about making the best possible use of everything available to me.

I'll let you know how it has worked for me later in the week.

Do you have a focus word or intention What's yours? How is that working for you?

Weekly Intention Debrief: What Do I Want to Experience?

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Each week, I choose an intention on which to focus , and this past week, I contemplated what I want to experience.

focus on: What do I want to experience

I promised to come back and report on how having this focus affected me as I lived through my week. So here we go...

Daily Touch

I already have a master list that I call my "I SHALL Have This List." It has everything from big adventures I want to enjoy, such as riding in a hot air balloon, to things I would like to have, like an electric recliner couch, to little things I want to do, like grow my own basil for pesto.

So did it make any difference for me to focus on experiences I want to have all week, since I already have a good list going?

Absolutely yes!.

Because each day I thought of what I wanted to try, do or enjoy. It was top of mind often.

I saw a news story about a wounded stray dog and was reminded how much I want to have the experience of generously donating to shelters.
While trying to get a stray cat placed in a shelter that wanted me to pay $50, I considered how I want to have the experience of hosting a fund so that people wouldn't be financially penalized for trying to get a stray off the streets.
While watching a TV show I got a great idea for a burrito bowl and decided I want to have the experience of making it. That will be supper one day this week, probably Friday night.
I started following a couple of plus-sized models on Instagram, because I want to have the experience of moving my body and moving with the grace and confidence of a model.

Yes, that was a good focus for me. let me know if you decide to try it! You an comment on Facebook below.

Ronda’s Weekly Intention: What Do I Want to Experience? Jan 1-7, 2017

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

I'm starting off the year with a paper planner for the first time in decades. One thing I decided to do was to hold an intention for the week. This word, question, or idea will be front and center every time I go into my planner to play. I will hold and contemplate this intention throughout each day.

Right now, I'm putting the weekly focus intention in my the far left column of my weekly planner spread, just below the monthly calendar.

focus on: What do I want to experience This week's intention

What do I want to experience?

Each day, I will focus on the kinds of experiences I desire, whether in food, time with friends, people, vacations, things, or health.

I don't love exercise, but I love having vibrant health, so after each workout, that is my focus. I want to experience strength.

I am saving pictures of experiences I want to have, such as trips to Hawaii, Ireland and Scotland.

While looking at the photo of me kissing a dolphin, I relive one of the best moment of my life and know I want to have a similar experience again, in the wild this time.

So that's how I'm working with my intention.

Do you have a weekly focus? If so, how is it working for you Please comment below.

Need Help Deciding Your Planning Style?

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

If you'd asked me about my planning style a couple months ago, I would have wondered what in the world you were talking about. I hadn't used a paper planner since the '90s. I went to using Google Calendar for appointments (still do).

While briefly sharing my planner story here, I'll show you how you can choose your own planning style based on your needs.

Dec26-31, 2016 Plan

Size Matters: What size planner is best?

Yeah, ok...size matters. You want to decide

DO you need paper, digital or both? Read this post to help choose.
Do you want to carry your planner or have it on your desk?
What you want to have?
Do you need more than 1 planner

My Planner Story

Back in October, I decided I wanted to track other thanings than just my schedule, so I got a personal planner so it wouldn't be too huge.

ut th3en I decided it was too small  So after much research and seeing how other people plan, I finally decided to get my Happy Planner. The small one is what I'll carry around and use for things like blog post and story ideas, insights, etc. It will serve more as a journal for me.

While awaiting the arrival of my Happy Planner, I took out the little Webster's Pages planner, opened it to the Notes section, and wrote down the things I wanted to track. Which brings us to your next step...

What to Track?

You can get some help considering what you want to mark in this post. Here's what you want to do.

List all the things you want to keep track of as they come to you.
Determine what general categories fit your needs best.
Mark or reorganize your list by category. This is your planning style!
Set up your planner to fit that planning style.

My tracking

Planning is highly personal, so what you want to track will determine your needs.  For me, I let my Google Calendar deal with appointments, mainly because a paper planner won't tell me it's time to quit working on my story and get moving, but the reminders I set will. Because I SUCK at time.

I first made a list of all the things I wanted to track without worrying ab out organizing or categorizing them in any way. Then I considered how I might categorize these items.

Here's a partial list of my own things to mark:

Moon phase
Weather
Blogging
RIPL (my system of social media check-in system)
Video  photo social media posting
Crafting
Fun
Outings
Happy news
Birthdays/anniversaries ('cuz I suck at time & don't want to miss any)
Gratitude

Three categories emerged for me:

Tracking-type stuff
Go-do stuff
happy life stuff

So the sections in my Happy Planner are now:

Top: Today
Middle: To Do
Bottom: BLISSful Life

Whether you write those headers, use stickers, or whatever, knowing your planning style will help keep you organized and productive.

I want my planner to be part planner nad part joy journal/memory keeper, and this is working well. I've only been using my system a few days, but I can tell you I'm getting a whole lot done.

I hope this helps you choose how to plan a BLISSful Life! What' working for you?

Paper Planners: What Size and Style Do You Need?

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

When I was looking into paper planners, I was struggling to figure out what type I needed. I wanted it small, but not too small. At first, I didn't know what I really wanted to plan either.

Planner-Pic

If you look in the Planner Love category, you'll see posts covering all that. Today is all about size, because...well...size matters!

Too big is cumbersome. Too small is hard to write in. What's your "Goldy Locks" size?

I found this helpful infographic that shows sizes. Click the image or here to see the original source. This isn't my work.

I got a personal size planner, then decided that's good for carrying around, but not big enough to work well for me as someone with limited eyesight and a penchant for decorating my planner!

I got a Happy Planner. This graphic  doesn't have my Happy Planner in it, though. Those pages are 7 x 9.5.

I am (so far...and it's new...) keeping my Happy Planner at home and using it to track everything from the weather and moon phase to gratitude to weekly focus to my writing, blogging and social media schedule. I go through that in a different post, though.

How to decide what planner size you need

here are some questions you can ask to help you decide.

What do you want to track and plan?
Are you carrying your planner or leaving it on your desk?
Do you want to journal or keep other notes?
DO you want to keep memories (photos, adventures, ticke stubs)?

Are You a 2 (or 3) Planner Girl?

I've become a 2 planner girl. The little personal size just isn't big enough to be useful FOR ME for tracking my writing etc. So I'm using my PP to carry around and use for the monthly overview calendar, insights, writing ideas etc.

the Happy Planner is the one that stays home and functions as combo memory keeper, planner and life log. It is highly decorated. I've discovered the joy of stickers for decoration, functionality, and overall pizzazz...but more on that later.

What planner are you using? Show us a pic of your latest spread!

Getting the Most Out of Google Calendar: It’s Not Just for Appointments Anymore

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

I have mentioned it before, but in case you haven't met me...I SUCK at time. I mean, I can think I'll come up out of a project in 10 minutes to, say, have lunch with mo, but if I don't set a date and time, I may emerge a couple hours later, oblivious to the passing of time until something outside me brings it crashing down on me.

So I need an electronic calendar to poke me and make sure I know that in 15 inutes I need to be on a call, or walking over to Mom's for lunch, or starting the pressure cooker, or whatever.

I love using Google Calendar for keeping my time on time, and it's not just an appointment book anymore. There are lots of cool things to do with it..

Google Calendar

So sure, it's a regular ol' calendar, but I do a whole lot more with it...

Google Calendar Event Notifications:

It's fine knowing I have a conference call at 3, but it's even better knowing 15 minutes ahead that I need to be on that call. That gives me a few minutes to get my head out of my current project, pee, get a beverage/snack, and get set for the call. I can set up notifications to remind me at whatever time before an event that it's impending. A paper calendar won't do that. I can set up as many as I need and choose from email or notification that comes up on my devices.

Event Colors:

I color code my calendar entries.

Orange/Tangerine for errands, lunch dates, etc.
YellowBanana for dog appointments like grooming and vet, because my dog loves bananas.
Bold Green for revenue-generating events.
Bold Blue for friend time.
Turquoise for fun stuff
Purple for personal/spiritual renewal

Reminders

When you set up reminders, you get a notice on your phone and computer reminding you about whatever you asked. I absolutely LOVE reminders. I have them set up for things like ...

Take trash can to the road
Give Jemma heartworm/flea-tick preventative
Refresh press page and bio on my website (quarterly, at the season markers)
Call
Get my Schwans order in

Invite People to Events

It's really handy to be able to invite your group, family, colleagues or whomever to an event. They get all the event reminder notices you've established, and if something changes and you have to cancel, they'll get that notice too.

Google Hangouts

I rarely do this, honestly, but it's nice to be able to make your event a hangout so those involved can video chat.

Mobile ease

Google Calendar works great on mobile. I have it set to month view on my tablet and week view on the phone.

Interesting add-on calendars

Want to know about holidays, sports, sunrise, weather, or phases of the moon? From the desktop version of Google Calendar, just look in the left column for "Other Calendars, click the little divet in the upper right and select More Interesting Calendars, and have fun exploring.

Goals

Now you can keep track of goals like exercise via your mobile device (not desktop). You can decide how much time and how often you want to lift weights, do yoga or other pursuits. Very handy!

As an author, you could even track writing time and make a date to get it done.

Chime In!

Do you use Google Calendar? What are your favorite tools?

Book Review of Break Your Self Help Addiction by Brian D. Ridgway

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I share well-written books. I highlight what makes each good from the reader’s perspective, and reveal what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers. This time, it's a nonfiction self-help book titled Break Your Self-Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom by Brian D. Ridgway.

Break Your Self-Help Addiction by Brian D. Ridgway is a book to be EXPERIENCED, not just read.

-- Ronda Del Boccio, #1 best selling author & speaker

Hawaii

Here's the book info from Amazon.

Break Your Self-Help Addiction by Brian D. Ridgway

Break Your Self Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom by Brian D. Ridgway

Stop Working on Yourself. Step Into True Freedom. Today.

What if self-improvement is booby-trapped?

And what if there is actually a way to change your life – in all areas, all at once – by finding and shifting the ONE hidden issue that has been creating all of the stuckness all along.

Coming out of an abusive childhood and then living with the outcomes of that on-going pain, the author invested over $300,000, 30+ years and tens of thousands of hours on self-help, personal development, and business/money/success courses – as his life got worse and worse.

Finding himself homeless, desperate, suicidal, and stuck, he experienced an awakening that took him from homeless to living the dream in Hawaii in less than 90 days. In that awakening, he was given the Level 5 Paradigm.

Since that “miracle moment,” he has been able to help people around the world to take their first steps into true freedom.

Break Your Self-Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom will help you to:

Access your Infinite Intelligence, Limitless Power and Ever-Present Guidance

“Shake off” chronic anger, sadness and fear in seconds.

Spot and dissolve the “hidden lie” in the majority of self-improvement work.

End the cycle of hope > investment > disappointment of self-help junkiedom.

Eliminate "the illusion of problems."

Get permanently “unstuck” and begin to consciously create the body, health, business, wealth, relationships, life and world of your dreams.

Is this just another self-help book?

Any book's value is in the eye nad mind of the beholder. I'm someone who has been into self development since my first set of Nightingale-Conant cassette tapes back in the 80s. While I definitely gain insights from everything I read (whether self-help or not), I have to say Brian D. Ridgway's approach is top notch.

My Real-Life Miracle Thanks to Brian Ridgway

I've been familiar with Brian for a few years now. I invested in his first online mentoring program. What I found back then and since with his Level 5 Mentoring is that I was able to uncover and clear hidden beliefs and blocks I didn't even know were there. I've made overnight changes in a relationship with a family member that had been challenging for 30 years. That was downright miraculous to me, and it was all aobut me cutting through STUFF. His teachings helped me more than anyone else's in that situation.

So imagine how happy I was to see that he finally (after some strong nudges from me over the years) published his first book. I don't hand out 5-star reviews lightly. Look at them and you'll see some low stars amongst them...

What Makes  Break Your Self-Help Addiction a worthy read?

5 Star Review Graphic

Read my 5-star review.

Accessible style

You'll feel as if you're talking with a friend at a café. Despite his vast experience making (and losing and reaking) fortunes, Brian is a regular guy.

He shares his own story

If he had just come pontificating and spouting teachings, this book wouldn't be a worthy read. That's not his style in person anyway. I love how Brian shares his own story with all its highs and lows, despair and aha moments.

Well organized

The flow of the book makes sense. I read through it all once and did the exercises, and I'm actually going back through again, which I seldom do.

Free resources to help you go deeper.

"Go Deeper" sections in various chapters have a link to either a video, PDF or other tool. Brian wants you to experience your own shifts, not just read about them.

The first one is what he calls the "Universal Orientation." It's a self-assessment, and I am glad I printed it off AND gave myself the time and space to dive deeply into it.

The videos are great. You get to watch him do what he calls "spell breaks" to help people get past issues that keep them from living a totally awakened, free life.

While watching a video of Brian doing a spell break with someone else, I uncovered hidden spells in my own life. After tears, memories, physical sensations, and a good deal of temporary agony, I broke through my own hidden roadblocks.

-- Ronda Del Boccio, #1 best selling author and speaker

If you're skeptical, I get it. I really do. Most of us have been there, bought the book, the program, the T-shirt...and have tried everything from Tony Robbins to Abraham Hicks with little real change. BUt I say give Brian's book and Brian a chance.
