Ronda’s Weekly Focus Dec. 25-31: I Wonder
One of the things I've started doing in my planner is having a weekly focus. This is something for me to pay attention to throughout the week. It appears just below the month calendar in the left column of my Happy Planner.
I like having a focus written right there for me to see as I mark things in my planner. It reminds me not to lose track of my intention.
My inspiration for this week's focus comes from best selling author Brian Ridgway. His new book is Break Your Self-Help Addiction.
Part of his spell breaker work asks you to question, stay curious and open, so this week my focus intention is "I wonder."
This leads my mind to many adventures.
I wonder how I can reach more readers...
I wonder how I can generate more revenue while serving more people...
I wonder how I can make things even harder for Aislinn and Kassidy in the books I'm working on...
So this week I'm opening myself to wonderment and curiosity. I am always learning and opening myself to true freedom.
If you're tired of the self help hamster wheel, you might like to grab Brian's book. Here are the details:
Buy Break Your Self Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom on Amazon Kindle.
What's your focus intentionfor the week?

BLISSful Life: Paper or DIgital Planner?
How do you keep track of your day, the things you need to do, the appointments, and all the muchness of living Do you use a paper planner or an online calendar...or both?
I used to keep a paper planner back when I had jobs with meetings and trips, but I got away from it as an author. A couple months ago, I decided to switch things up and have a paper planner AND Google Calendar to help me keep my life BLISSful.
I SUCK at time. I can think something happened yesterday and maybe it was 3 months ago. I may tell someone I'll be done in 10 minutes, then get wrapped up in a project (or writing a story) for hours.
That's just how I roll, like it or not. As a friend of mine says, "Time isn't even a magazine in my house." So I need to compensate.
The GREAT thing about online calendars
I use Google Calendar, and I love it. It's great for keeping me on track with specific times I need to do things like:
Writing contest . entry deadlines
Due dates
When to start getting ready or leave
Reminders (more on that soon).
I love Google Calendar. It's so versatile. I like the notifications, reminders, and goals available. I'll go into how I use it in a separate post. for now...
Here's what I love about Google Calendar in brief:
Color coding events (to match the purpose of the activity)
Customizable notifications beore the event
Ability to invite others.
Remibders
Goals
And it's free
And all that's great, but I decided I need to keep track of more in my life than just the time I need to do things. I wanted to keep track of things like moon phase, weather, what I accomplished, a weekly focus, gratitude and more. So I got a paper planner.
Here's a key question to help you decide how and why to plan, on paper or online:
What do you want to track?
Give yourself a few minutes, your favorite beverage, and writing implements. Decide what you need or wan to track. Write it down.
You might call it "Things I want to record."
In the next post, I'll share what I decided to track in my aper planner and how I am organizing it at the moment (subject to change based on my needs and whims).
Please share your thoughts in the comments using your fav social media site.

Author: What Is Your Vision for Your Writing?
It's good to check in with oneself from time to time and reconnect with your goals and vision that you have for yourself as an author.
You might ask yourself questions like these:
Why am I writing?
What do I want to accomplish with my work?
What do I consider success?
I did a visioning meditation. I'm giving it to you here. You may listen now or download, but know this...if you don't make an appointment with yourself, you'll just keep being too busy.
Journal As You Dream
Journaling as you craft your ideal future, whether for the coming season, year, or lifetime, is an excellent tool. You can get in touch with your hidden desires, goals and needs this way.
Here are some helpful ihints:
Keep a blank page.
Don't constrict yourself to a certain format.
Write, draw, doodle..let the ideas flow.
So, give yourself an hour to meditate/ponder and plan. Here's the audio. Enjoy!
If you aren't seeing the player (because you're seeing this on another site besides WriteOnPurpose.com), here is the download link.

Amazon Changes Review Policies
I've done a lot of product and book reviews. I used to HAVE to disclose it if I received a discounted or free product in exchange for a review. Now, that's a no-no. The review clubs like Giveaway Service and Tomoson also seem to be forbidden too, though I still get offers from them.
Yep...Recently, Amazon just made a GIGANTIC change to their review policies. They didn't change it for books, but they did for anything else. Now, you can't get a free or reduced price item in exchange for an honest review (except a book).
Here is some of the language from their policies. Full link follows:
Promotions and Commercial SolicitationsIn order to preserve the integrity of Community content, content and activities consisting of advertising, promotion, or solicitation (whether direct or indirect) is not allowed, including:
Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your (or your relative's, close friend's, business associate's, or employer's) products or services.
Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your competitors' products or services.
Creating, modifying, or posting content in exchange for compensation of any kind (including free or discounted products) or on behalf of anyone else.
Offering compensation or requesting compensation (including free or discounted products) in exchange for creating, modifying, or posting content.
Posting advertisements or solicitations, including URLs with referrer tags or affiliate codes. The only exceptions are:
You may post content requested by Amazon (such as Customer Reviews of products you purchased on Amazon or received through the Vine program, and answers requested through Questions and Answers). In those cases, your content must comply with any additional guidelines specified by Amazon.
You may post an answer to a question asked through the Questions and Answers feature (but not a question itself) regarding products or services for which you have a financial or close personal connection to the brand, seller, author, or artist, but only if you clearly and conspicuously disclose the connection (e.g., "I represent the brand for this product."). We automatically label some answers from sellers or manufacturers, in which case additional disclosure is not necessary.
You may post content other than Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers regarding products or services for which you have a financial or close personal connection to the brand, seller, author, or artist, but only if you clearly and conspicuously disclose the connection (e.g., "I was paid for this post."). However, no brand or business may participate in the Community in a way (including by advertising, special offers, or any other "call to action") that diverts Amazon customers to another non-Amazon website, service, application, or channel for the purpose of conducting marketing or sales transactions. Content posted through brand, seller, author, or artist accounts regarding their own products or services does not require additional labeling.Book authors and publishers may continue to provide free or discounted copies of their books to readers, as long as the author or publisher does not require a review in exchange or attempt to influence the review.
For more information and examples, read About Promotional Content.
Read the original article source here.
Here's more about promotional content:
About Promotional ContentIn order to preserve the integrity of Community content, promotional content - i.e., an endorsement by someone with a financial or close personal connection to what they're endorsing - is only allowed in limited circumstances, and must always be clearly and conspicuously disclosed as promotional content if not obvious from the context.
Because Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers are meant to give customers genuine product feedback from fellow shoppers, different guidelines apply to those features. The guidelines and examples below supplement our Community Guidelines regarding promotional content.
Promotional Content in Customer ReviewsOur goal is to capture all the energy, enthusiasm, and feedback (both favorable and critical) that customers have about a product while avoiding use of reviews to advertise, promote, or mislead.
To help illustrate, here are a few examples of reviews that we don't allow:
A product brand posts a review of their own product
A customer posts a review in exchange for cash, a free or discounted product, a gift certificate, or a discount off a future purchase provided by a third party
A customer posts a review in exchange for entry into a contest or sweepstakes or membership in a program
A customer posts a review of a game in exchange for bonus in-game content or credits
A relative, close friend, business associate, or employee of the product creator posts a review to help boost sales
A customer posts a review of the product after being promised a refund in exchange for the review
A seller posts negative reviews about a competitor's product
An author posts a positive review about a peer's book in exchange for receiving a positive review from the peerAlthough products may be provided to customers for free or at a discount, and those customers may write reviews, any attempt to influence or manipulate reviews is prohibited, including conditioning any future benefit on writing a review or the content of the review. Benefits include but are not limited to: future opportunities to receive free or discounted products, continued membership in a program or club, cash rebates or gift certificates, entry into contests or sweepstakes, bonus digital content or credits, and ratings or referrals that may affect the recipient's chances of receiving other benefits.
Here are a few examples where a review is not permitted:
The customer's eligibility to receive free or discounted products or other benefits in the future depends on their review
The customer's continued membership in a program or club depends on their review
The customer is a member of a review club where sellers or brands give the customer ratings or refer the customer to other sellers or brands based on their review
The customer is a member of a review club where they are asked to register their Amazon public profile so that sellers or brands may monitor their reviews of products offered through the clubThe following reviews are generally allowed, provided they comply with the above guidelines:
A customer writes a review of a product purchased using a discount generally available to all Amazon customers, such as a Lightning Deal.
A customer writes a review of a product received for free at a trade show, convention, or other similar venue where the provider does not monitor whether the customer writes a review or condition any benefits on writing a review or the content of the review.Although promotional content is restricted in Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers as described above, there are other ways in which products may be promoted to customers. In all cases, the poster must clearly and conspicuously disclose their financial or close personal connection if not obvious from the context.
To help illustrate, here are a few examples:
An author or publisher may post content in the book description, About the Author, and Editorial Reviews sections of the product detail page. To learn more about these features, visit Author Central. In this case, no additional disclosure is necessary.
An author, artist, seller, or brand may submit content regarding their own products to their followers using their official account. In this case, the connection between the poster and the products is obvious, so no additional disclosure is necessary.
A relative of an author may submit content to their followers as long as their relationship with the author is disclosed in the content (e.g., "Check out my spouse's new book!").
Anyone may submit content to their followers in exchange for compensation as long as it is clearly and conspicuously disclosed (e.g., "I was paid for this post", "I received this product for free in exchange for this post").
Anyone may post comments on Customer Reviews or Questions and Answers as long as any financial or close personal connection to the product is clearly and conspicuously disclosed.
Eligible vendors and authors may use Amazon Marketing Services to promote their products through Amazon Pages, Product Display Ads, Headline Search Ads, and Sponsored Products, subject to those programs' requirements.
Anyone have experience with navigating these new muddy waters?

Ozarks Writers League Writing Inspired Conference Nov 18-19, 2016
No matter where you live, there's probably a group for writers. I highly recommend being involved, as it will inspire you and give you a kick in the seat to sit down and write. This month my regional group, Ozarks Writers League, hosts our quarterly conference. The theme this time is "Writing Inspired."
Sometimes I am super excited about the speakers. Sometimes, not. But I still go. I've been surprised more than once by how interesting and relevant subject ended up being for me.
Even if the topics at your local conference don't excite you, go anyway. It's a great way to connect with others who engage in that mostly solitary act of writing. If you have books, you may be able to have a book table. I will have copies of my best selling peace book The Peace Seed. I've donated 1500 of these little books to prisons to hopefully bring some peace and unity to troubled people.
Here's a photo of the handmade card. You can follow me on Instagram too!

Author: Does Your Book Title Sing?
Whether you write fiction or nonfiction, short piece or novel, the title is one of the elements that first captures or loses a prospective reader's attention. So it better be great.
The job of a title is simply to grab your busy possible reader's attention and make her want to know, "What's that?"
I had been trying to find the perfect title for my fantasy suspense novel for weeks. I played with various ones, and finally got it. Yay! Below, I'll share techniques I use to get a title that sings.
When a title "sings," you FEEL it in your body. Sure, it touches the ear just right too, but once you've found the right one, it feels right.
Here are some of my titles.
A Tasty Morsel
"Into the Bubble" (spiritual fantasy short story"
Deadly Mist: Mirrored Worlds, Book 1 (fantasy-suspense novel, available to publish)
Real Dogs Don't Eat Kibble by Sandra Bailey
"She Had a Curfew...I Had a Van" (award-winning short story.
"Hillbilly Heaven" (award-winning short story)
Crafting Titles That Sing
THe title needs to fit the mood of the work in question. You would expect "Fun with Numbers" to be playful, not long-winded and boring.
Every once in a while, I get my singing title quickly, but not always. I take my time coming up with a title. I let them rattle around in my head. I say the possible choices aloud. I write them down.
Here are some techniques I use to get my titles.
Write down "What't the best title for my _______ story?" THe brain can't resist an open loop. It wants that loop neatly closed. Your smart subconscious will get right on that. As potential answers come, write them down. When you find your title, circle it and write, "Thank you, brain!" or some other words that suit your personality to close that loop.
Talk it out. If you're an auditory processor, talk out possible titles. I like to start down a particular trail and see where it leads. Then talk out a different trail.
Ask your alpha/beta readers. If you've had people read your piece, ask if they have any inspiration for the title.
Think in motion. While trying to come up with that brilliant title, get out of your chair and move. Walk, bounce, dance, do Pilates, whatever.
Try any of these methods and let me know if they help.

Verbosity Surgery: Cut Meaningless Phrases from Your Writing
When writing the first draft, just get the words out. Don't worry about grammar, word choice, or anything else. Just tell the story or craft the article. When it's time for editing, every work (mine, yours, everybody's) neds to go in for verbosity surgery.
Cut Out Meaningless Phrases
"Cut to the chase" is something my parents said whenever anyone (not just me) told a story that blathered on and on too long. Good advice.
A HUGE thank-you goes to Jefferson D. Bates, author of Writing with Precision, for this list of wordy phrases and their streamlined replacements.
3 Quick Tips for Editing
Editing is not "1 & done."
