Authors: Save Time & Auto-Post to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter with NEW Social Jukebox

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Authors have a lot to do.

Write books.
Edit said books.
Proofread said books.
Get said books off to alpha and beta readers.
Seek publishing or set up self publishing...of yeah those books.
And let us not forget...MARKET those books...
and connect with readers...
and do live in person &/or virtual events.

WHEW! That's an exhausting list!

Don't you love to save time and energy?

Well DUH! Of COURSE you do! Who doesn't. I mean...nobody is going to raise their hand and proclaim proudly, "I have NOTHING to do, so please, pile on more STUFF TO DO!"

Social media alone could devour 24/7 if you let it, and that will only account for a small percentage of your book sales anyway.

People tell me, "Ronda, you're EVERYWHERE? Do you sleep?"

Yes, I sleep. I'm everywhere because of some wonderful tricks and hacks As a matter of fact, I'm working on a book called 101 Tricks and Hacks for Writers right now. One of my favorite Cool Tools is in that book.

I know you're asking:

"How can I save time and energy on social media, Ronda?"

You probably feel like an exhausted hamster in a wheel, scurrying around to do this and that in a constant flurry of activity.

Exhausted-Hamster-in-a-Wheel

Slow down. Take a breath. I've got you. Check this out.

The 1-Post Problem

You write a blog post, upload a video, or whatever, and you share it once all over. Then what? Who has time to go back around every week or so and share one of your older posts?

That's the 1 post problem. It's hard to keep sharing your awesome past content.

The Social Jukebox Solution

Wouldn't it be great if you could keep sharing your great material time and time again on autopilot? Now you can.

Social Jukebox lets you set up "jukeboxes" (think playlists) of your content for sharing on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. You control how often posts go out.

My jukeboxes include:

Author help (tips & tools)
Book reviews, excerpts and author spotlights
Random Ronda (no links, just weird tidbits)
Leader Dog Jemma

Owner Tim also has some free jukeboxes of quotes and other things you can use. Love those.

Why I LOVE Social Jukebox

I can add my own "stuff" - blog posts, YouTube videos, podcasts, even other people's posts if I want.
I can set up different release schedules for Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
I have granular control over the days and hours each playlist/jukebox runs in each of the networks.
I got in early, before the price goes up!

Quick Overview of Social Jukebox

Thanks, Tim Fargo (Social Jukebox Creator) for this quick list:

n addition to adding Facebook and LinkedIn posting, here are a few of the new features:

- AutoScheduling - this allows you to select the jukeboxes you want to schedule and the total posts you'd like from each one. Then you press a button and it will automatically generate a schedule, free from conflicts for you. Handy!

- Chrome Extension Improved - In addition to the easy updating provided by the Chrome extension you will now be able to load posts and RETWEETS into jukeboxes. Many people have asked for quicker ways to get their posts into a jukebox as well as an easy way to handle retweets. It's coming soon.

- Add a hashtag to all jukebox posts. - Want to jump on an emerging trend? You can now go into options and add a hashtag to an entire jukebox (as long as there is space) and it will put it into your post as it goes out.

- New Jukebox Interface - It allows much quicker management of jukeboxes from the main page.

- Targeted Posts auto transfer to a Jukebox. - Previously Targeted Posts existed independent of Jukeboxes. Now, if you have a post you want to eventually move from Targeted to a Jukebox, you can schedule it and it will automatically be transferred.

- Emojis - We will be supporting emojis and you can also add out emojis directly inside the Social Jukebox system as well.

Having a BLISSful life means doing what you love to do, whether as a hobby or as your vocation. I am so grateful to do both. I adore writing, and I also enjoy singing and creating art. Being around animals and good friends are also a big part of my bliss, and I get those too!

I've never entered an art contest before now. I entered the Ozarks Writers League Art and Photography Contest this year. We had a number of excellent entries, and I am honored to be among the winners.

I guess I should point out that I'm mostly blind, so when I paint, my face is VERY close to my work. I entered a couple pieces made with Sculpey clay and painted, a candle that I made and painted the glass, and an incense burner.

Here is my prize-winning suncatcher.

What Are the Latest Book Publishing Trends?

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

Ozarks Writers League Publishing Trends Conference, August, 2016Our speakers included an agent, an editor, some book publishers, and some independently published authors (including me.).

I missed parts of everything except the self-published authors panel in which I was a presenter. Here are some quick nuggets I gleaned at the Ozarks Writers League August conference.

Publishing has changed so much over the past decade.

We've seen big bookstore chains like Borders shut down and others like Barnes and Noble suffer.
We've seen the rise of print on demand publishing and digital publishing.
Publishing opportunities from companies such as Smashwords, CreateSpace, and Kindle Direct Publishing mean anyone can be a published author for free.

People have changed too.

Digital books are more popular than ever.
We read more on our phones.
We mostly want shorter books.
Audiobooks are more popular than ever.

Publishers are seeking:

Hybrid or mashup books that blur typical genre lines.
Racial, gender and sexual diversity.
Series over one-off books.
TV show trend-based books.
Evergreen topics (those that never die).

Top Category in 2015

20 million adult coloring books sold in 2015..

I loved connecting with my friends Jeanie Loiacono of Loiacono Literary Agency, Duke and Kimberly Pennell of Pen-L Publishing, and Lou Turner of High Hill Press.

Self Publishing Costs

Some authors pay hundreds or thousands of collars for things like covers and editing of their independently published books.
Some of us pay nothing or next to nothing.

If you're a writer, GO to writing conferences!

I'll Push You Steer by Ronda Del Boccio and Bonnie TeshThe first writing conference I attended sparked an idea that became my first book, the humorous and inspirational I'll Push, You Steer, with my co-author and friend Bonnie K. Tesh.

After nearly 10 years, we still get royalty checks for that book! It's available in paperback or Kindle editions from your favorite bookseller or Amazon.

First, I was the u8npublished author in awe of those who had published 1, 10, or 20 books. Today, I have 7 of my own and over 2 dozen contributions to anthologies, and I'm pitching to publishers and agents. I never saw that coming 12 years ago!

Google "writers conference" and "writing organizations" in your area. If you're in the Ozarks, check out OzarksWritersLeague.com.

Why Should Authors Use Tweet Jukebox?

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series Twitter for AuthorsSHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

UPDATE: I originally did this post in spring of 2015. Tweet Jukebox is still a fabulous tool, but it is out of beta and no longer free. It is becoming Social Jukebox. I still use it, and in fact paid for a year in advance. I'll get to why in a bit.

If you haven't noticed, social media can take up a lot of time! I'm dedicated to making it fun and easy for myself AND for you authors! While interacting on Twitter recently, I came across a great tool called Tweet Jukebox. Before sharing it with you, I wanted to give it a "test drive" to see how I like it.

What Does Tweet Jukebox Offer?

Tweet Jukebox is a free service as of the time of this writing. No idea if that will change, but consider trying it out now if it fits your needs. You can schedule a rotation of tweets to help you share things like quotes, your blog posts, book teasers and more. These posts are organized into "Jukeboxes," and you get a free one with quotes to try out. Here are some of my jukeboxes.

Since I do frequent fiction book reviews, I have all of them in a jukebox called Book Reviews. Every few hours, one of them magically goes out into my Twitter stream.
Since I also help authors, I have aJ jukebox clled Author Help with all the tutorials, tips and strategies I share.
Since I'm an author, I have one with book teasers, excerpts, author interviews, poems and more.

Watch this Tweet Jukebox for Authors Video Mini-class/tutorial

Tweet Jukebox is becoming Social Jukebox.

NEW as of August, 2016: They're adding Facebook and Linked-in auto-posting. More on htat in a new separate post.

10 Reasons WHY Authors Will Love Tweet Jukebox?

Waiting…and Waiting…and Waiting to Hear

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

I was thrilled last fall when the agent I pitched wanted to see my book. I could hardly believe the idea sounded interesting enough she wanted to have a look.

Once I got home, I looked up the agency's LONG, LONG list of manuscript formatting criteria and set up my book or success. I had it to her within two days.

Then, the wait began...

Anticipation

WAITI've published both independently and with small presses. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. I'll go through that another time, but suffice it to say that there's a lot of waiting involved in querying agents and publishers.

Nine months ago, I queried an agent at a writer's conference. I knew to expect a long wait, but truthfully, I had hoped I would have heard back by now.

Yes or No?

I won't be bent out of shape if the answer is "no," but I just want to get that yes or no so I know what happens next.  All life didn't stop for me, and I'm trying to be patient, but WOW is it getting hard after nine months.

Affix fingers to keys and WRITE!

I've kept myself very busy with other writing projects, as you can see by looking at the MyBookProgress info in the sidebar of my site.

Nine Months and Counting

So here I am, nine months later, getting ready to pitch that same book and some others to publishers and an agent at the Ozarks Writers League quarterly conference.

I'll be "pitching" four books to a couple of publishers and an agent. We'll see if anything sticks. I'll keep you posted.

Wish me luck!

MyBookProgress Update: Epic Fantasy Revision: Slogging through Editing

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

A number of years ago I wrote an epic fantasy or maybe a paranormal fantasy. Hard to tell what to call it sometimes, as the lines blur.

I want to get it back out into the world now. A small press published it back before publishing was easier and cheaper. No, I didn't pay to publish but each copy of the book cost me $11, so that already made it an expensive book before earning any profit. I have my rights back, so I can publish it.

Rue the Day was never on Amazon and not widely available. I wrote it from start to polish in 4 months, and it's an intense story full of suspense, jealousy. and trickery.

I DESERVE Abundance! Image shows a flower against an unfocused background http://writeonpurpose.com/miracle

First Round: Revisions

Figuring I must have learned something in a decade of writing a lot of words, I first went through to revise. Aside from things like dialogue tags and a love affair for passive voice at the time, which I knew I could fix, it was a good story.

I didn't find any gaping plot holes or flat characters. The story arc works. A lot is at stake for several of the key people, including the protagonist.

Second Round: Edits & Tweaking

I'm in phase 2 right now. Having gone through the whole book, now I'm correcting any booboos or typos I find and punching up the prose.

Or at least, that's what I thought I was doing. Oh, I've found booboos to fix. I've breezed through most chapters. Characters had a few more things to say in a couple scenes, so I added some dialogue to 2 chapters.

It's a slog, but I enjoy the process. As I write this, I'm a quarter of the way through the book on the editing pass.

Watch for a Funny Story

I'm going to share a funny story about what a publisher friend of mine said about the book. All I'll tell you right now is that 5 people who read the original said, "He's crazy," and "He's clueless."

Epic Fantasy Revision Progress Update: Chapters 1-4 Done

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

I just made progress on Epic Fantasy (Revision)! So far I'm 13% complete on the Revision phase. 5 Weeks remain until the deadline.

Epic Fantasy (Revision)Phase:RevisionDue:1 month12.9%Get Book UpdatesMyBookProgress by Author Media

A long time ago in a room very close by...

...I wrote my first novel in 4 months. I thought I was writing a short story, but no.

I wrote an epic fantasy novel a dozen years ago, and it's time for that book to experience a revival. SO I'm breathing new life into it and, hopefully, improving it. I suspect I've learned a few things about writing in those years.

I've done quite a big of rearranging.

Chapter 1 used to be the prologue. It has a new scene and some things added to what was on the page back then.

What used to be Chapter 1 is now Chapter 3.

What used to be memories or the protagonist sharing her past with people has been moved into what is now Chapter 2.

Some things I've learned thus far:

The English teacher who critiqued my book advised me poorly when it came to semicolons. She must have had a thing for them. They don't belong anywhere but hifalutin (pompous) papers.

I just learned how to spell hifalutin, which I've heard but never seen in print.

Dialogue tags were in vogue at the time I wrote the book. Now, not at all. (Those are the "she saids" of fiction.)

I've learned how to go deeper into a character's point of view with less words.

I haven't written that much in third person lately.

Moving some scenes forward meant I had to establish some elements of the story well and early.

I still love my characters and the story even after so much time.

One publisher suggested I should just scrap it and write the whole doggone book fresh. I'm SO glad I DID NOT listen to him.

I'm having a good time freshening up the story and look forward to finding a home for it when 'm done.

How to follow my progress

You can see how I'm doing on my works in progress in the sidebar of WriteOnPurpose.com. I also update my readers by email, and you can become one of "Ronda's Readers at WriteOnPUrpose.com/read.

BLISSful Life: 3 Small Changes that Freshen Up Your Space

SHARE!
Facebook twitter google_plus pinterest linkedin tumblr

My home will never make it to a magazine spread, and that's fine. Jemma's dog toys are everywhere. Two blankets adorn the couch, ready to warm the chilled. Interesting geodes rest on the windowsills. I often burn incense or use a plug-in light with scent (by Joy Mangano). Dog hair festoons everything, because there's just no way to shellac my golden retriever's hair to her body and keep those magical fibers of love and joy from floating everywhere. (sigh). She's worth it, though.

Nothing fancy. Universally, people who come to my home comment, "I feel so comfortable and at ease here." That's better than the cover of any magazine for me, because that is how I want my living space to feel, both to me and to visitors. Comfy is good.

Here are 3 ideas for freshening up your space and making it delightful so you can have a BLISSful life.

Fragrance

Perhaps you like incense or Joy Mangano's Forever Fragrant Warmer, or simply a bowl with lemon and water juice warmed inute, a nice smell invites deep breh, which causes relaxation.

Sacred/Peaceful Area

I have a little table with a Tibetan singing bowl, a Zen garden and a few other things. It's fun to play in the sand or clear the air with the singing bowl. Having your own altar, sacred space or peaceful haven is a nice way to create an environment of bliss and comfort.

Change the Lighting with WIndow Film

Without a big investment in new furniture covers, you can make a space look very different without spending much money by putting up window film (also called window clings). These change the way light comes through your window with a pattern and even a little added privacy.

I just tried one. Here's a photo.

WindowPix Static Cling Window Film in My Window

They come in all sorts of patterns and sizes. I would want a repeating pattern to use for bedroom or living room windows. This is from WindowPix. I was given a sample window cling in exchange for a review, so it gave me a chance to try it out.

I hope you like these ideas. Enjoy your #BLISSfulLife!

My Works in Progress

I'm only tracking my active projects in MyBOokProgress, but here's what I have going on:

They All Died Smiling (Paranormal romance suspense): Complete. Waiting to hear back from the agent.

"Into the Bubble" (mystic/paranormal short story) This is the dolphin story I've been mentioning across the social web. Finally got a title. In the final edits and getting ready to seek a home for it. This is a companion story to "Trouble's Turn", which you can get FREE on Smashwords at WriteOnPurpose.com/foreverfree.

Hillbilly Daze (anthology: Writing more stories.

Rue the Day (coming of age epic fantasy romance): I had this out with a publisher and have regained my rights. I'm going through to freshen things up, then I will seek publication.

In My Right Mind (Paranormal Romance Novella): I wrote this a while back, and it will be in a set of 3 paranormal tales. Going through it for edits.

Hidden Ozarks: Not sure this will be the name, but this will have 3 connected paranormal novellas all set in the lush Ozarks. I have 2 of them already and will get going on the third soon.

I LOVE my readers!

When you read any of my books or stories, I am so happy! It's truly an honor. I like bringing you tantalizing transformational tales. I hope you'll keep in touch and tell me what stories you love, which characters make you mad, or whatever else you'd like to say.

Thank you!

Much love...
