Book Dealer List
It's clear from our discussion yesterday that in many countries it is hard to get my books at a reasonable price. However, there have been reports of shops that can get them at reasonable rates. I'd like your help in making a list to share here and on my web page, so that those who would really rather buy the books than get them from pirates can. So come on, folks, let's pool our knowledge! :-)

Modern Times
Whew! Yesterday's literary piracy discussion was one of the liveliest we've had in a long time! Thanks everyone, for contributing. Would the person who told me about the pirated Audible books please email me those links again? I was having email trouble yesterday and now I can't find it in the mass of posts.

Snow and Palm Trees
Here's the view from our yard. It rained for a week down here in the valley but it was snow higher up. This the most snow and rain this part of California has seen in years! And more rain coming.

Today's Buddhist Thought
Here's a great example of "skillful means." With Buddhism slowly dying on the vine in Japan, a rapping Zen monk is using hip-hop sutras to attract young people. It seems to be working, too!

Much is being made of this sending a message of jihad to our Muslim adversaries—and our potential allies, as well. Well, shit, yeah. How much louder can we scream "HOLY WAR!" whether it's intended or not.
But I am more deeply unsettled and saddened by references to Jesus, a man who preached peace and loving one's enemy's, being stamped onto instruments of death. What can I say...

I love it that they are getting Garcia directly in with the team more often, and I adore it that Garcia knits, among all her other talents and interests! I was working on a sock when that flashed across the screen.
The scene of her bonding with the Goth boy seemed a little too easy, a little to fast, until you find out what's really going on, and how desperate he must have been to reach out for help.
I totally dropped the plot ball on Dad being an EMT unt...

Voodoo Brings Solace To Grieving Haitians
From NPR: An interesting overview of Haitian voodoo and how it is helping people cope with the disaster, and certainly a different picture than Pat Robertson paints.

Wait-- I thought they said 2012!
From the AP: "Fire officials in Los Angeles County plan to issue mandatory evacuation orders today for nearly 600 homes in flood-prone areas in anticipation of a third major storm, the Associated Press reported. Police have already evacuated residents in the Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles. A downpour on Monday dropped between 2 and 5 inches of rain in the mountains, dramatically increasing the chances of mudslides in the area, and a second storm on Tuesday resulted in the death of at lea...

Whew!
Turns out those troublesome dark spots on my hand and leg are not skin cancer! So much for my paranoid theory about computer screen emissions being carcinogenic.
