Time to Build That Ark
Outside: rain, lightning, thunder, wind, hail. Inside: rain on the roof, fire on the hearth, Segovia playing softly in the background, American Tea Room's lavender tisane, Provence, a warm dog snuggled up beside me on the couch, toasty laptop on my lap. And poor Alec and Seregil caught in a summer heat wave.

I've been eating sushi wrong all these years?!
A friend sent me the link to this great sushi primer on the do's and don'ts. I confess myself guilty of several of the don'ts, having been taught them by other round eyes. At least I almost never sit at the bar.

Cozy Day
Pouring rain is predicted for at least the next week, which bodes ill for a lot of areas between here and LA, with flash flooding and mud slide warnings being issued. So I feel a little guilty, enjoying the rain on the roof so much as I sit here by the fire, sipping an excellent tea and writing, safe above the flood zone.

Off the Map
Took my first tottering steps into a brand new project yesterday, something totally non Nightrunner-related, although it is still fantasy. And still writing NR6, of course. I've never tried to write two books at once.

How to Help Haiti
If you're looking for a way to help Haiti in the wake of this terrible disaster:
Text on your phone: 90999
Type in message: Haiti
$10 will be applied to your phone bill, and sent straight to the Red Cross. I just did, and it worked. It's not a scam.

Movie recs: Up & Wings of Desire
Finally watched "Up" on DVD. I always love Pixar's work, but this was the most touching, dramatic one they've done so far. Can't say enough good about it. The opening and closing action made me cry. I can't think of what else to say, but "Squirrel!!!"
Wings of Desire: If you haven't seen this strange, dreaming black and white movie about angels, a Wim Wender film, you should. http://www.slate.com/id/2239708/
