Fire Season

The morning light is a sullen orange today, with all the smoke from the fires burning in Yucaipa and Oak Glen area. Smell of smoke is strong. We're not in any danger here, I don't think, but it's very eerie and a very bad fire season. I'm already hearing rumors of arson, as we always do. Here's the view from the end of our street on Sunday when the Oak Glen was just getting started.

Tea Parties of Lies *here be a rant and some--gasp! facts*

I continue to be appalled a the willful ignorance of the radical right, anti-healthcare bunch. Death panels? Really? If they had the slightest idea of how our government actually works, they'd dry their eyes and wipe their noses and calm down. Mouth shut. Ears open. But no, now there's a traveling road show of these Tea Baggers--er, Partyers? It's being referred to as "astro turf"; a false grassroots movement.

New Toy

Currently typing away on my new 13" MacBook Pro. Speedy III is much faster than Speedy II. I filled up the hard drive of the old one. Maybe I'll write faster!

Today's Buddhist Thought

You should be an island to yourself, a refuge to yourself, not dependent on any other but taking refuge in the truth and none other than the truth. And how do you become an island and a refuge to yourself? In this way. You see and contemplate your body as composed of all the forces of the universe. Ardently and mindfully you steer your body-self by restraining your discontent with the world about you. In the same way, observe and contemplate your feelings and use that same ardent restraint and s

Early Days

Starting a new book is like starting a three needle mitten. The first rows are awkward and prone to dropped stitches, tangles, and twists, But once you get past those, everything begins to pull together and take shape. I haven't reached that point yet with the new book. Still trying to keep those needles straight!
