Seminar at Sea Progress Report: Sample Ship Tour
The travel agent who is arranging my seminar at sea gave Doug and I a tour of a similar ship yesterday, to give us an idea of what it will be like. My entire idea of cruise ships comes from old episodes of "Love Boat". This was quite a revelation. Talk about luxury! And once you pay your passage, all meals and most entertainment is covered in the price. Wish I'd thought to take pictures of the balcony cabins (best value, I think) and the private adults' pool and spa. Oh well. We'll have to m...

Nightrunner Movie Update
I'm back from NYC, after a very productive weekend with the C-Squared guys, Charlie Spickler (screen writer/director) and Ed Morrill, producer (who greeted me at the airport with a sign: "Lynn McUnpronouncable" LOL) They're great guys and really want this project to do well. Charlie's a fan himself and is looking for ways to get as much of the story to screen as possible. I will tell you up front, getting it all in is simply impossible. Some things will have to be left out, some combined wit...

Rather Big News (and a whole new use for that icon)
This has been in the works for a while now, folks, and it's early days yet, but the first three Nightrunner books have been optioned for movies by independent film company C-Squared Pictures. The script for Luck is in the writing process at the moment. I'm not in charge of that, but the writer/director, Charlie Spickler, has been gracious enough to ask for my input, and I'm in New York meeting with him this week. That's all the details I can give you for the moment.

Ta ta for now!
Tomorrow I set off for Deer Park monastery for a week's retreat, then it's off to the other end of the spectrum with a week in New York City. I'll be incommunicado for the first week at least, starting tomorrow afternoon.
So go wild and talk among yourselves. Just no fighting, biting, smoking, tobacco spitting, llama teasing, or fires.

The President's Address to America's School Children
The text is now up on the White House website. People should be fighting to make sure their kids hear this, not the opposite!

Sidenote: correct me if I'm wrong, but nearly all the people I've seen on the news who are protesting this, as well as healthcare reform, the real right wingnuts, are all white. I think if there were a lot of people of color upset about this, they'd be showing at least some of them, beyond Rep. Allen Steel.

White Road Snippet
It's been a while, hasn't it? Maybe this will make the wait easier.
Alec drifted off to sleep that night feeling less of an outcast. To the Bôkthersans he was family, rather than an unwanted guest. With Seregil beside him and Sebrahn curled at the foot of the bed, he drifted off in a deeper slumber than he had in days.
So it was a nasty shock when someone yanked him off the bed and onto the cold floor and stuffed something into his mouth. The shutters were open and by the faint moonlight he co...

Outer Alliance
I wanted to let you know about a new advocacy group which supports queer content in speculative fiction, called the Outer Alliance. The mission statement is "As a member of the Outer Alliance, I advocate for queer speculative fiction and those who create, publish and support it, whatever their sexual orientation and gender identity. I make sure this is reflected in my actions and my work." The website also states: "The Outer Alliance is a group of SF/F writers and friends dedicated to LGBT a...

Live in SoCal
Wildfires. Lightning, thunder and actual rain. Emergency alerts for flash flooding. We're not in a flood plain, or a fire zone, but I'm glad my laptop is charged up.
