Moonlight and Merlot

The continuing saga of the lives, loves and heartbreaks of the residents of Dion Valley, CA.

As with all the best things in life, this is for adults only.

"We're not done yet," Phoebe said, and right at that moment, Zach knew he'd had enough. Just enough. He was willing to forgive her, willing even to let this whole, horrible episode slide, but he couldn't take any more of her needling. Her teasing.

"Yes, we are," he said, grasping Phoebe's wrist. "You're done. And we are leaving." They could get this all sorted out if they were alone. He was certain of it. He just needed to get her away from here. So they could talk.

"Zach," she whined. "You're no fun."

"I'm not really in the mood for fun," he said, leading her toward his car.

"Wait," Lela called before he could pull Phoebe away. "Tomorrow night is the night. You have to be there."

Zach wanted to tell her to stuff her spell and her witchery and all this stupid god bullshit, but he had promised. He was a man of his word. No matter how much he didn't want any part of any of it, he would do it. "I'll be there," he said, meeting Lela's eyes.

She nodded and then turned her gaze on Phoebe. Phoebe rolled her eyes and let out a little huff. "Don't give me that look, Lela. You know I'll be there."

"Good," Lela said. "Just be on time, okay?"

He couldn't help but smile. Lela was always so intense. As he stood there before her, he realized once again how much missed her. It was strange to feel that way, he hadn't thought of her like that in years and years. But as his gaze moved over her, he noticed just how lush she was now, so much more rounded than she was back when they were just kids and used to fool around in his parents' drawing room. Phoebe was gorgeous, very nearly perfect, but there was something very appealing about Lela's curves.

He knew Lela felt the weight of his stare by the rosy flush on her cheeks and he smiled at her, trying to take the intensity of his sudden reawakened and very confusing desire down a notch.

"Fine, fine, fine," Phoebe said, and Zach jumped slightly, startled out of his reverie. What was he doing? He didn't really want Lela. Phoebe was the only woman for him. "Whatever you want, Lela." She tugged on his hand. "Let's go, baby."

"Right," he murmured, still slightly unsettled. "Let's go."

He glanced one last time over his shoulder at Lela and then helped Phoebe into the car. He jogged around to the driver's side and got in. He glanced over at Phoebe and froze. There was something… off … about her.

"Don't be getting any naughty ideas, Zach," she said, and something in the tone of her voice made goosebumps rise on his skin.

"What are you talking about?" But he knew. Somehow he knew that she knew exactly what he had been thinking about Lela.

"You love me, don't you?" she asked and leaned toward him. It took all of Zach's will not to flinch away from her. "Me, Zach." She reached out and ran her fingernail along the line of his jaw. "Only me."

For a split second Zach was actually scared, chilled to the bone afraid of his little, blonde girlfriend. Because for a second there she seemed so much more, so much darker and dense. He shook his head, a negation of everything he was thinking and feeling and it seemed to work because in the next instant, she was just sunny, bright Phoebe again and he wondered if he wasn't going insane.

"Why are we just sitting here?" she whined, and Zach had to smile. "I want to do something fun."

"Okay," he said, starting the engine. He wanted nothing more than to put this morning and all this crazy weirdness behind him. "Let's go do something fun."

[Until next Tuesday…]

Jordan took a quick peek at his hand on her thigh and swallowed hard. He was getting dangerously close to her pussy. She wondered what would happen when he finally got there. Heat raced along her nerve endings at the thought, and she suppressed a shiver of anticipation. Getting hold of herself, she met his eyes, flashed him a quick, mischievous smile and then leaned over, her hand moving from his knee to this thigh, inching upward until she found the thick bulge of his erection. She ran her fingertips along the phenomenal length of his hard cock and smiled as his Adam's apple bounced.

"Is this all for me?" she asked, her index finger circling the swollen head.

Moonlight and Merlot

The continuing saga of the lives, loves and heartbreaks of the residents of Dion Valley, CA.

As with all the best things in life, this is for adults only.

*****

Nick gazed off in the direction that Lela and Zach had disappeared together. He hadn't known that she and Zach had once been lovers and now the knowledge sat in the back of his head, simmering and festering there.

Not that it mattered. It wasn't like he was a virgin before last night or anything. It shouldn't matter at all. And yet it did. It mattered a lot.

A noise, something, he wasn't sure what, made him glance over at Phoebe and he was greeted by a sight so strange,  so horrifying, he could feel the revulsion curl in his stomach. She was curled up on the hood of Zach's car moaning and… writhing. A chill ran through him, settling deep into his bones and the hair on the back of his neck stood up.

For one heartbeat, one breath, one instant of a tenth of a millionth of a second, he saw… something. Darkness. A darkness so dark it made the deepest hours of the night seem bright. A darkness that surrounded her, enveloped her, cocooned her, encased and shrouded and coated her. Devoured her.

And then he blinked.

And it was gone.

"Damn," Phoebe moaned as she stirred and then sat up. "This hangover is killing me."

"Phoebe?" he breathed, still frozen in place, his hand stretched out in her direction though he had no recollection of reaching out toward her, his heart racing, the blood pounding though his veins as if to make up for the one moment when it had stopped.

She looked at him and grimaced. "You know, you're really not a morning person, Nick." She ran a critical eye over him and seemed to find everything she saw distasteful. "You really look much better at night."

He barked out a harsh laugh that quickly transformed in real, relief-filled laughter. Imagination. It had to have been his imagination. This was Phoebe and she was just fine. Her usual bitchy, shallow self. And fine. Totally and completely fine.

And yet…

He squinted, trying to see the thing that he thought he saw, but all he saw was Phoebe sitting up in the morning light.

"Ughahh," Phoebe whined, clutching her head. "This sucks!" She jumped off the hood and stood before Nick. "Please tell me you have something for the pain," she asked, clutching at his shirt. "Vicodin or Percocet, hell I'd even take aspirin at this point." She smiled up at him coy and cute and spiteful all at the same time. "Take me upstairs, Nick," she said, dropping her voice to a husky almost-whisper. She pressed her hips against his and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Help me feel better."

He shook her off with a disgusted grunt and took a step back from her. "Do you ever stop? What's it going to take to make you understand that we are never going to happen?"

"Never say never, Nick," she said, with a smile that turned his insides cold.  That smile widened briefly, and then her eyes flicked over his shoulder.

"Oh, Zach," she called, pushing Nick aside to run toward Zach and Lela. "My pookie-ookie, Zachy cuddle-bear." She went on murmuring sweetness and love as she jumped into his arms and burrowed against him.

Nick scrubbed his hands over his face. That girl was going to drive him insane. He had to figure out some way to get her out of his life.

"You all right?" Lela asked as she came to stand beside him.

Nick lowered his hands and looked over at the woman he had waited so very long to hold. He couldn't help but smile and he knew then, right then, that it didn't matter who she used to sleep with. She was his now. All his. "Yeah, I'm all right," he said, and put his arm around her shoulders.

Her arm slipped around his waist, her hand resting on his hip and a wonderfully restless hunger stirred with him. "Well," he said, lowering his head to speak into her ear. "Since we don't have to find Phoebe now…" He licked her earlobe and smiled when he heard her breath catch. "Why don't we leave them to their whatever and go back upstairs for a little while?"

"Upstairs?" she asked, and he could hear the humor and the desire in her voice. "And what we would do up there?"

"Hmm, what indeed," he said, and nipped her throat. "I wonder."

"Hey," Phoebe called, shattering the moment. "We're not done yet."

[Until next Tuesday…]

Naughty never felt sooo right as together they share an outrageous night of love that is supposed to end with the coming of dawn.

Or so they thought…

And for those of you that have not seen it yet, the official excerpt:

Chapter One

Macy's was a madhouse. Of course it was. It was eleven p.m. on Christmas Eve and every last-minute-shopping, deal-saving-hoping, lazy-slacker procrastinator in New York City was out trying to buy whatever they could, as fast as they could, preferably at a discount.

Jordan blew her long, blonde bangs out of her eyes as she wove her way through the other shoppers toward the cafe. She needed a break. A cup of coffee. A shot of bourbon would be better, but the Bar & Grill was closed, and leaving the store was not an option. If she left, she might not come back, and she really did need to finish her Christmas shopping. There was no way she could show up tomorrow morning at her sister's house a few gifts short.

She let the smells of coffee and cinnamon guide her feet and eventually she came upon the line for the cafe. Jordan shut her eyes and let out a long, weary breath. This was going to take awhile. With nothing better to do, she shifted her weight from foot to aching foot and took a quick peek at the presents she'd already bought to pass the time.

She was still a little bit jealous of the rich, navy cashmere sweater she'd bought for her sister Anne. She thought again about keeping it for herself and getting Anne something else but decided that it wasn't worth the effort. She didn't have time for redos. Besides, Christmas was about giving. She wished she didn't have to keep reminding herself of that.

She moved the sweater aside and fingered the supple leather golf gloves she'd gotten for her sister's husband, Mark. They were total quality and she hoped he liked them. Next to them were the Little Mistress Lolly brand jeans she'd risked her life to get for her niece Veronica.

"You're lucky your Auntie Jordan loves you," she muttered under her breath. Physical violence had literally broken out over one of the last remaining pairs in stock, and Jordan had fled the department with her purchase clutched against her chest.

The line inched forward and Jordan groaned, making waving motions with her arms in a futile attempt to make it go faster.

That only left her mother and father. She figured she could get away with some perfume for her mom, but for her dad… Jordan winced inwardly at the thought of shopping for her father. The man was so damn picky, it was a wonder he owned anything. She couldn't even begin to imagine what she might get him.

Finally, thankfully, after an eternity, Jordan had her coffee. She turned from the counter and sighed heavily, seeing nothing but a rolling sea of people and nary an empty seat in the place.

"The fun never ends," she grumbled as she tread through the tables, trying not to hear the screaming children, the frustrated grunts, the whining complaints, the sappy Christmas Muzak.

She roamed the seating area, craning her neck from side to side, trying to find just one unoccupied chair. She didn't care if she had to sit with Hannibal Lecter, just as long as she got to sit down for a minute.

And then she saw it. Off in a far corner, an empty seat. Jordan could almost hear the heavenly choir sing as she traversed the distance, entirely focused on that plastic vision of sublime relief.

The chair appeared to belong to a table where a man sat with his head bowed over a steaming cup of coffee. He wore the lower half of a Santa costume and a white t-shirt. His hat, beard and jacket rested off to the side. A bright red shopping bag sat at his feet. She wondered for an instant if he was the Macy's Santa but quickly realized there was no way they'd let him sit half-dressed in the cafe if he were. He had to be just another tired Santa doing some last-minute shopping.

"Excuse me?" she asked, hovering over him. "Is that seat taken?"

His head came up at the sound of her voice, and Jordan involuntarily gasped. He was gorgeous! Like unbelievably, seen-only-in-magazines gorgeous. Messy dark-brown hair framed his handsome face, and a spark of good-natured humor shone from the depths of his ice-blue eyes. The barest shadow of a beard highlighted the sharp angle of his jaw and outlined his very luscious lips. The t-shirt hugged his arms and fit snugly against the hard contours of his chest. She knew that Santa Claus should not be inspiring the wicked, wicked thoughts that instantly popped into her head, and yet she couldn't help but gaze at his full lower lip and wonder what his kiss might taste like.
