Groundhog Day

Could there be an end to all the cold and suffering and misery?

Is that light I see at the end of the tunnel?

No, wait.

That's just a damn groundhog.

And it's STILL winter.

"There are no gods," Aster said in Phoebe's head. "Not anymore at least."

Phoebe slumped in the passenger's seat of Zach's roadster both fascinated and irritated by the thing in her head.  She was sure he was an interesting creature and all, probably an absolute riot at parties and whatnot, but he had the totally annoying habit of avoiding answering the questions she asked and instead telling her things she didn't really care about. What did gods have to do anything? Of course there weren't any.  Everyone knew that. "That's great and all," Phoebe replied, "but it doesn't tell me who you are and where you came from."

She could almost feel him sigh. "Do you possess any patience at all? Or lacking even that, higher thought processes? I am explaining to you what you wanted to know."

"No need to be rude," she said. "I just don't need the whole history of the world, you know? I don't understand why it is so hard for you to just say, I am Aster, a really irksome demon-thing and I am from the very bowels of Hell. Or wherever it was you called home before making yourself all comfy in my head."

"All gods become demons when new gods come to power," Aster said as if that explained anything. "I was once revered and before becoming entrapped in this very uncomfortable and very vacant space you refer to as a 'head,' I dwelt in the darkness of Evernight. Does that satisfy your query, human?"

"Not even a little bit," Phoebe said. "And I'd like to add that I have a name and it isn't 'human.'"  She quickly glanced over at Zach, remembering him for the first time in quite a while. He sat stone-faced behind the wheel, driving them to wherever it was he was taking them. Relieved she didn't have to deal with him at the moment, she turned her attention back to Aster.  "Are you telling me you were once a god or something?"

"Or something," he answered.  "Who I was doesn't matter, what I can become is what we need to concern ourselves with right now."

"What you can become?" Phoebe asked, suddenly very interested. "Really? What can you become?"

"Your friend, that witch, is doing a spell tomorrow."

"Yeah," Phoebe answered. "So?"

"You are going to help her."

She was going to help Lela with her spell, she promised and everything, but she didn't like Aster's tone. It sounded distinctly like a command. "What makes you think that?" she asked.

"Phoebe," he said with very deliberate patience, "I am in your mind. Do you think that I can't read your thoughts? Know your feelings?"

"Oh," she said somewhat mollified. "All right, fine. I'm doing the spell. So what?"

"So," he said, "you are going to make us both happy by helping to free me from your head."

Six Sentence Sunday

This week I have another little taste of my Sky Pirate tale for you.

She reached for something on the top shelf of one of the cupboards that lined the kitchen and the back of her sweater rose, revealing a glimpse of perfect ivory skin, the delicate arc of her lower back. Daric's mouth went dry and his heart thudded in his chest. To be able to kiss that very spot, to run his tongue over the gentle curve of her spine, to taste her undoubtedly soft, warm skin, to…

"If you're coming in, then come in," she said, starling him out of his very pleasant train of thought." Don't just hover there like a specter."

(Sorry this isn't my usual sexy picture this week, but I found this "pirate" and it made me laugh so hard I just had to share it. It probably wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so damn serious.)

Stop by the OFFICIAL SITE to check out all this week's incredible offerings from a really vast array of talented writers.

The Harem Thus Far

My husband collecting has gotten a little bit out of control, so I felt I needed to do an assessment and remind myself of ones I already have.

Ian Somerhalder

Carlos Freire

Nelson Ribeiro

Brent Van Zant

Bryan Thomas

Andres Velencoso

Luke Flynn

Honorary Member Errol Flynn

Actually, that's not as bad as I thought. Not even really enough for a proper harem when you think about it. Looks like I'll have to get some more…

Problem Solved

If you recall from last week, I was in a little bit of a tizzy over how I could add Errol Flynn to my harem of future ex-husbands with him having no future all because he's dead and stuff.

Luckily, the  most fabulous ROXY mentioned something about a son which got me thinking.

And that's how I found him.

LUKE FLYNN

Errol Flynn's grandson.

What do you all think??

Moonlight and Merlot

The continuing saga of the lives, loves and heartbreaks of the residents of Dion Valley, CA.

As with all the best things in life, this is for adults only.

*****

According to the tome Lela found, the God of the Grapes was a complex deity, reminiscent of the Greek god Dionysus. Aren't they all really, Lela thought as she stared off into the night. She has wondered before if they are all in fact the same god or different ones. If each variation didn't create an entirely new being with its own likes, dislikes, personality.

Either way, Dion Valley's very own god was primarily a fertility god and in the earliest days of the Valley,  offerings were made to him on the old Witches Alter in the forest to ensure bountiful crops, nourishing rain, rich soil. What these offerings may have been was not stated but Lela got the impression that they involved blood. She mostly felt that way because the God of the Grapes had a dark side as well. Drunkenness, madness, lowered inhibitions and unrestrained sexual frenzy were things he symbolized, embraced, encouraged. Magic and rebirth, death and madness, these were all part of the rites, the ritual, the way to appease the taciturn and powerful entity.

The madness was well documented in the grimoire, relayed with loving, explicit, obscene detail. People wearing animal skins, carrying wands and knifes and swords and cudgels bound with grapevines and ivy. People in a self-induced trance, dancing to the beat of drums, drunk on wine and spiritual frenzy, tearing apart animals and maybe even humans with their bare hands, spilling blood, soaking  the hungry, waiting earth.

And through this sacrifice, this mad ecstasy, the god was supposed to emerge and bestow blessings on the faithful. Ensure the harvest for the year. Grant power to the believers. Punish the blasphemers, the sinners, the unbelievers.

Or so it was said.

And now, with the sun and the planets and the stars all aligned right and her own personal devotion combining with the flighty energy of Phoebe, the grounded Zach, the mysterious and darkly powerful Nick, He would return.

At least, that was the plan.

[Until next Tuesday…]
