Free Buses to Rally for $15 an Hour
Activists in the Valley are inviting the public to join them on free buses to a rally for a $15 an hour minimum wage. The February 6 rally will be in Manchester, New Hampshire outside a Republican presidential debate. The buses will leave from Chicopee (near Springfield) at 2:15 p.m., Northampton at 3 p.m., and Amherst at 3:30 p.m. People will be traveling from all over New England for the rally. Manchester is about an hour from Keene by car.

CJ Chenier Concert is February 5
CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will perform in Northampton on February 5 at 7 p.m. CJ Chenier was born in 1957. According to his web site, he “spent his childhood in the tough tenement housing projects of Port Arthur, Texas.” Chenier played with Ringo Starr on Paul Simon's album Rhythm of the Saints. Workers Unite
How can democracy exist in a nation shared by millions of workers making minimum wage and billionaires? History shows an effective way to spread the wealth is for workers to join unions. Earlier this month, workers in Brattleboro had a victory, and workers in the Springfield area held rallies.

Photos: March to Stop Pipeline
These photos show some of the more than 100 people who took part in a 34 mile march in the Valley in honor of Martin Luther King. The march took three days and ended on King's national holiday. The purpose of the march was to stop a proposed fracked gas pipeline in the Valley. More information about the march and the pipeline is at www.NoFrackedGasInMass.org. The march was organized by Hattie Nestel.

Progress in Case of Man Imprisoned for Crime He Did Not Commit
In Brattleboro on January 12 a judge set the schedule for a case involving a man who was kept in prison for 18 years for a crime he probably did not commit. In 2012, a judge ordered John Grega released from prison in Springfield, Vermont, near Brattleboro, after 18 years in prison for a murder that he probably did not commit. The murder happened in 1994 in Dover, Vermont, which is also near Brattleboro. Grega died in a car crash on January 23, 2015. His family is seeking to hold government of...
