Interview: Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls

The Indigo Girls performed an outstanding concert in Boston on November 7. The historic theater in downtown Boston where they played appeared to be sold out. The audience applauded enthusiastically after almost every song. They played a mix of songs from their old and new albums.

The Indigo Girls are Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, plus a changing lineup of musicians on their records and at some of their concerts. Some tours are just Ray and Saliers, but on their current tour they are performing...

Photos: Hundreds at Rally for Free College

In Amherst on November 12, hundreds of people attended a rally to call for tuition-free public college, cancellation of all student debt, and a $15 an hour minimum wage for college and university employees. The rally was at the Student Union building at UMass Amherst. The organizers have a web site at www.phenomonline.org.

A Victory in the Fight Against Mass Incarceration

Activists in the Valley who are working to end mass incarceration might be inspired by a story from Oakland, California. In December 2014, in Oakland, anti-prison activists held a rally outside a meeting of the county legislature. They were asking the Alameda county board of supervisors to invest $17 million a year in programs to keep people out of prison by creating jobs for people just getting out of prison. Interview: Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls

The Indigo Girls is one of the best bands that's currently performing live. The band will play three concerts near the Valley this fall. The Indigo Girls have sold more than 7 million albums and won a Grammy award. In June, they released a new album, One Lost Day. March Against KKK

About 60 people marched through downtown Brattleboro November 5 chanting, “Hey hey, ho, ho, the KKK has got to go.” On October 29, someone put KKK literature in the mailboxes of two African American women in Burlington, Vermont, that city's police chief said. The KKK, whose membership is limited to white people, is responsible for the murder by lynching of hundreds, and possibly thousands, of African Americans in the USA between 1877 and 1950. The KKK still has thousands of members.
