Photos: Fast Moving River, Streams

These photos were taken on February 25 in Brattleboro following a night of heavy rain and melting snow. Black Mountain Road had a large hole in the middle of the road. Four Day March to Stop Pipeline Starts March 17

A four day march to stop a proposed fracked gas pipeline starts March 17. The march will start about 30 miles west of Northampton, in Windsor, Massachusetts. It ends near Greenfield in Northfield, Massachusetts. The public is invited to attend part or all of the 53 mile march. Organizers are offering free food and places to sleep for the marchers. They are also seeking donations.

The march has been endorsed by www.350.org. More information about the pipeline is atwww.NoFrackedGasInMass.org.

Victory in Fight to Stop Greenfield Walmart

A Walmart store less than a mile from Brattleboro has been vacant since 2009. The enormous store and its acres of parking lots were built in Hinsdale, New Hampshire on acres of land that were once pristine wilderness. The Brattleboro Home Depot and its acres of parking lots have been vacant since 2008. It was built on acres of prime farmland.

March to Stop Pipeline Set for Presidents Day

On February 15 in Greenfield there will be a march and rally to stop a proposed fracked gas pipeline. The public is invited. The march starts at 10 a.m. at Greenfield Community College's East Building. It will go to 40 Mill Street for a 15 minute rally. Then the march will continue to 43 Silver Street, where there will be a lunch with speeches by Northampton lawyer Tom Lesser and others.

CJ Chenier Concert is February 5

CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will perform in Northampton on February 5 at 7 p.m. CJ Chenier was born in 1957. According to his web site, he “spent his childhood in the tough tenement housing projects of Port Arthur, Texas.” Chenier played with Ringo Starr on Paul Simon's album Rhythm of the Saints. Chenier performed with Simon on a concert tour. A video of CJ Chenier & The Red Hot Louisiana Band performing live is at:
