One Good Thing

I was looking after my niece, Serenity, this morning. She, like all babies, loves music. Some people lose their interest or connection to music as they grow older. I think those people also lose their souls. You gots to have music!

Anyway, I was listening to The Be Good Tanyas, one of their slower songs. Serenity, who's two year birthday is next month, starts doing some sort of interpretive dance out of the blue, complete with willowy arm and finger movements. She looked dead serious too. She ...

One Good Thing

I had a dream with a killer twist to it last night! I get many of my ideas for writing through my dreams...and fantasies (wink wink). This one was very complicated, so I'm still trying to figure out how to work it into a coherent story. It involved secret identities, a desolate city, businessmen in street warfare, and an evil Asian woman (in the dream played by the great actress Tsai Chin) with a HUGE red-stained wooden necklace. Who knows if anything will ever come of it, but it was definite...

One Good Thing

Tiger lilies. There are huge orange tiger lilies outside my window. They've been blooming for the last couple of days, but they're out in majestic force today. I've always loved this type of flower. They're sassy. They're wild. And they remind me of orange sherbet. You can't go wrong with orange sherbet in the summertime. The mimosa tree is blooming its pink feathers today too. Flowers! Flowers everywhere!

One Good Thing

While looking at news reports this morning, I couldn't help but think if there's one good thing to come from the catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, it's awareness. Looking at the photographs of the birds and wildlife devastated by the oil spill, not to mention the human lives ended or brought to a stand still by negligence, you can't help but look deeper at our oil dependence. Hopefully this will wake the nation, the world, to start acting more responsibly. This is kind of a backhanded good t...
