Last Week to Register for Couple's Seminar

The next couples seminar starts OCTOBER 1.  Don't wait until the last day to register!  The course is given by conference call, so it's easy to take.  Each session is recorded, so if miss one it's easy to catch back up.  This course can be life-changing!  For all the details, the syllabus and past participant comments, please go to the ADHD EFfect seminar page.  If you have questions, please contact me with the link at the very top of the page.

Last Days to Save $100 on Virtual ADHD Conference!

Don't miss your chance to pre-register for the upcoming Virtual ADHD Conference and save $100!  That will make the conference $177 instead of $277!  This Vrtual ADHD Conference is going to be a great resource for couples wanting to learn more about ADHD. Pre-registration ends midnight this coming Sunday, August 11.  This year's Conference consists of just 8 master classes with experts whom Jenifer Koretsky (the conference organizer) knows from experience give great talks with excellent material.  Roberto Olivardia, Ph.D. is giving a class on ADHD and emotionality (anyone need info on this???!); Ari Tuckman Ph.D. is talking about memory and attention; and there are sessions on organization, medications, time management and more.  And, yes, I'm giving one of the classes - mine is "Effective Communication for Couples Impacted by ADHD" (2pm, Tuesday, Oct 8).

Those who register have access to the slides, recordings and conference website for three months after the event.  So even if you miss one (or all) of these excellent sessions you'll have time to hear it/them later.  If you think you might have more to learn about ADHD (and don't we all?) I urge you to look at the agenda and consider registering.

Being the Bad Guy and Telling Kids about Parental ADHD

I recently heard from a couple with several children, one of whom has ADHD.  The husband also has ADHD and is struggling to get his symptoms under control.  He rarely follows up on what he promises to do, which is driving his wife crazy.  She is responding with typical parent/child dynamics - taking over everything he isn't doing, and getting on his case about his failures in angry and belittling ways.  In this context, the husband asked the question "Should we tell our kids about my ADHD?  My wife is concerned that she is always coming across as the bad guy, rather than me."  Hold up there!  Let's discuss both the question and the answer!

How to Remember Agreements When ADHD is Involved

Do you fight over whether or not you agreed to something in the past?  Or perhaps you're a non-ADHD partner frustrated that your ADHD partner doesn't seem to remember your conversations?  If so, I would like to suggest a simple solution that will help you avoid these fights.

Social Skills and Adult ADHD

Adults with ADHD may feel awkward in social situations or have difficulty communicating.  I recently got a note from a man with ADHD who said he needed tips on how to better meet interesting women and make close friends.  Here are a few suggestions:

Slipping Backwards in ADHD Relationships

For those of you who have learned new tools and had been doing better but are frustrated that things have gotten worse again, you are not alone!  I am embarrassed to say that even in my own relationship it took a recent shocker of a conversation to get us back on track again.  I write about it here because I think many of you will find the story and its outcome reassuring.  Couples have setbacks, even those who have learned new techniques for finding happiness in their relationship.  But don't despair because you can get past the setbacks, just as you did the origina

Online ADHD Research Study Looking for ADHD and non-ADHD Participants

Adults with ADD/ADHD are needed to participate in an Internet study examining emotional responses to pictures.  Adults who do not have ADD/ADHD are also needed, to provide a group to compare to.  Participants will view a number of photographs and answer a couple of questions about each one; the experiment takes 20-30 minutes to finish.

Participants who complete the on-line experiment can enter a drawing that will offer a 1 in 25 chance of winning a $25 Amazon.com gift card, and will be helping researchers and clinicians to better understand the experiences of adults with ADD/ADHD.

This study has been approved by Pacific University’s IRB.  If you’re interested in participating, or would like more information, please visit the study Web site at this link.

This study does not have to do with personal relationships and does not take too long to finish (I have taken it).

Date for Orlov / Green Talk on Sex Moved to 5/29

Totally ADD has decided to move the talk on ADHD and sex from tonight (5/13) to 5/29.  They are interested in opening up the talk to registrants outside of just their members as they have had people asking for that, so the 29th is the date!  Their seminars have a limit of 100 people live and an unlimited number of recordings, which they send out the next day I will post the registration link here as soon as it is put in place.  Thanks for your patience with this!
