Is There a “Best Way” to Learn?
Intuitively, we all know that there are different ways to learn. Some people are more visual. Others auditory. But regardless of the best way to “ingest” information, what we struggle with is an understanding of the best ways to make information stick (complicated, of course, by this new digital world where we are distracted by all the newness). In fact, cognitive and educational psychologists have developed and evaluated numerous techniques over the past 100 years to try and figure it out.

The connected car is not about consuming content
It’s really about letting you stay connected to your content by letting you interact safely with your smart phone. More of the “connected world.”

Amazing Death Valley Dreamlapse (from National Geographic)
Although I have posted the video here, you can also check out the full article on Nat Geo’s website (http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.c...). Death Valley really is a stunning place of extremes and the video captures that through a ton of time-lapse photography with some stunning long-exposure night-time shots.

Tenants of Mobile Search
Great piece on hot mobile search trends:
http://mashable.com/2011/07/12/mobile-search-trends-google-bing/
In short:
1. Mobile search is growing
2. It’s not that different from PC searching
3. We search because we want to take action. This is a very different behavior set than PC-based search simply because we are on the go, not sitting in front of our computer.
4. Advertisers are heading to mobile search. Go figure as it grows.
5. Mobile ad rates are on the rise

Are You Always On?
GigaOm recently produced a fantastic video interview series with John Hagel, the co-chairman of Deloitte’s think tank, The Center for the Edge.
http://gigaom.com/2011/07/10/the-future-of-companies-work-you-i/
There is a lot of information in these videos and a bit of postulation about what the Internet means for modern businesses. Two points in particular I want to touch on.
The first is about the Internet enabling companies to appear bigger than they are. John kind of glances over this as far a...
Comic Books as a Reflection of Societal Issues
Comic books have always held a special place in the collective social imagination. Although often relegated to the fancies of children, there are many lifelong comic-book fans that enjoy the outlandish and often impossibility represented by superheros and their ilk.
But the comic book industry has seen a steadily-increasing downturn in readership despite many of the recent Hollywood successes with on-screen translation. In order to understand why that is happening, we really need to understand...
Why I Don’t Want To Take Back Control of Content Delivery
Living and breathing content delivery means that I am always thinking about how to help businesses figure out the best possible solution for their business needs. And I don’t favor any one solution over another. In a recent blog post for Limelight, I actually exposed that there are really three main camps: DIY, Hybrid, and Outsourcing (CDN). Each of them has their pros and cons. In many cases, startups may DIY (until they have more than a few users), smaller companies may opt for the cloud (u...
Why We are Getting F@#$ed by Healthcare
Yeah, that’s right. In case you didn’t know it, we are getting f@#$ed by our healthcare system. We spend more but don’t get better healthcare. End of discussion.
In fact, according to many experts, we spend about 18% of our GDP. That’s a lot of money. That’s trillions of dollars. But the worst part? It’s about double or triple what other, smaller countries spend. So that leads you to the question, “why does healthcare cost more in the U.S. than in other countries?” Is it better? Are the drugs...
