The Power of Nature is Sublime

Sublime is defined as “impressing themind with a sense of grandeur or power; inspiring awe, veneration, etc.: Switzerland has sublime scenery.” That is no more true than when thinking about the cycle of life and death in nature and how the natural world is constantly moving and changing around us. Realizing this can make us feel small and insignificant in the face of such power.

In a recent post on New Scientist, a photographer (Neil Bromhall) set up his camera to capture a picture of an oak t...

Visions of Undersea Cables

May not seem like much but this interactive map of trans-atlantic cables enabling the global Internet is pretty cool:

Now just use your imagination a little and think about the process to not only lay this cable but fix it. Puts our global Internet into a much different perspective. Almost like the blood vessels of our new, digital planet.

Learn How to Write About Your Life

Writing memoirs is tough business. It’s not just about cataloging everything that’s happened to you over the course of your life. It’s about stringing them together to make meaning for the reader, to draw parallels, to evoke catharsis, whatever. A new book aims to help writers create memories that better appeal to readers as stories…not just a collection of memories.

Facepalm: Can’t We Put Imagination to Better Use?

Oh, the future sometimes worries me when we seem to be expending energy on the banal. I won’t knock that the link below to “Pickup Lines From 13 Historical Figures” isn’t funny at times but you might, like me, be more inclined to put your face into your palm thinking about all the work that went into this. Maybe they would be better served making more cat videos to post on YouTube…

/facepalm

Is Ebenezer Scrooge schizophrenic?

He exhibits many characteristic symptoms such as a shunning of relationships, solitary existence, emotional detachment, fantasies in which he acts out reality. Dickens may well have been exploring mental illness. Worth a literary investigation?

When Life Throws You Lemons…

Don’t make lemonade. Throw them back.

This short, 150-word piece about “life” was recently submitted to the Reader’s Digest “Your Life” contest through their Facebook App. Go vote for me!

Life in 150 words? Preposterous. I only need two: throw lemons. I went to school to be a writer and never got published. Threw some lemons and fell into the “real world.” Made some lemonade there. Then fired. Hired. Fired. Hired. Startup failed. Again. Lemons, lemons, lemons. Got married. Made lots of lemonade...

Import an ebook into iTunes

In this how-to, you will learn how to import an .epub format ebook into iTunes for synchronization to an iOS device (like an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch).

Note: This example uses iTunes on a Macintosh. Your experience may be slightly different (i.e., button names) if you are running iTunes on Windows.

First, open iTunes.

After iTunes is open, select the Add to Library Option from the File Menu. This will open a dialog box allowing you to search your computer for the file to add.

Why a Digital Presence?

In the first part of this series, we explored and defined the concept of a digital presence, breaking it down into strategy and operations, and outlining its components (create, manage, deliver, and optimize).

We even presented you with a challenge—to figure out where your digital presence might fall on a digital presence meter.

After reading that first post, though, you might have been left with a bigger question than where you fall on that meter. Like, “so what?”

Before you dismiss digital pre...
