Spring Homemaking with Style
Homemaking with style... Let's explore that concept in today's video.
Spring is here and the bees and the flowers rejoice. I’d like to bring you out of the common drudgery associated with homemaking in today’s video. We’re going to explore homemaking with style.
Pajamas by Not Just Pajama Jennifer12 for 12% offI believe the first key to elevate yourself out of a feeling of drudgery is to not only get dressed every day, but express your style through your clothing. You might wonder what this has to do with homemaking? Well, you are the homemaker. And your well-being is imperative to running this ship. Expressing your creativity and joy through your everyday style is going to improve your everyday life. I like to wear presentable pajamas to bed every evening. And in the morning, I am still cheered when I awake. I like to prepare my skin (I use Paula's Choice skincare) and apply my makeup in front of the window for the best light. This is the makeup I have been using… some new spring colors from MERIT minimalist makeup…

You might be thinking this outfit is rather plain… Don’t worry I’m going to liven it up in a moment. But first, let’s appreciate the bones. My new skirt came in and I love it! I enjoy wearing monochromatic looks… especially white and creams. They act as a perfect canvas for accessories and even look chic with just this leather handbag. I’m going to run errands today so let’s add a sophisticated touch with a voluminous scarf. Look how this scarf livens up this basic outfit. It looks great with the brown leather handbag and also with the blue croco handbag TBJennC30 for $30 off too. I’m ready to run errands now in style…
I’m back from running errands and now I must fold some laundry. My heart is always warmed by how cute little tiny clothes are. Do you ever feel that way? I fold a toddler shirt or a little pair of pants and my whole heart is warmed. Time for a small afternoon treat.
I keep meaning to share these little chocolate bites (dailyconnoisseur for 10% off )with you. They’re chocolates with benefits. That’s what I call them anyway. One of them is a vanilla chocolate with vitamins, nutrients and immune support. And the other one is a calming chocolate with ashwagandha for stress reduction. They’re so good!
Time to make lunch. I’ve been craving a Cajun shrimp pasta… How good does that sound? This is a very easy recipe to make and totally fulfilled my cravings. {"image":"https://i.imgur.com/aWUMtIl.jpg"... Is there any flower more charming and more bursting with character than the ranunculus? I like to look up flower symbology and was not surprised at all to find that the ranunculi symbolizes charm. The name ranunculus actually means "little frog" in Latin. The Victorians would send ranunculus to the object of their affection because they symbolized charm and attractiveness. I say they add a whimsical style to the home and are perfect for the kitchen table.

Homemaking with style is all about the little details. So I am placing this lemon loaf on the Victoria Magazine blue roses porcelain tray, dusting with powdered sugar, and adorning with lemon slices, fresh roses and rosemary. The scent of this cake is intoxicating. I serve the cake with a dollop of whipped cream and some fresh raspberries. A cup of mint green tea make a refreshing compliment. I hope you enjoyed today’s homemaking video and that it encouraged you to do your homemaking with style.

10 Things Every Adult Should Own
I'm sharing ten things every adult needs in today's video.
Welcome to The Daily Connoisseur. We are going to explore things that every adult needs. It's important to note that you can find everything on this list in any price point. The items I show are my own and mere examples. Many of these things you probably already own...
1. Proper stationery At some point in your adult life you will need to write a proper letter or send some sort of correspondence in the mail. It's a great idea to have at least one set of stationery on hand so you can be prepared. You can get fancy here and have your stationery customized with your monogram, or you can simply buy a box of letter sheets with matching envelopes. It's always a good idea to keep thank you cards on hand as well as blank cards as well if the occasion arises where you need to send a card.
🗝 Stationery ResourcesStationery Xpress Papier Minted Design Works Ink Zazzle
2. Presentable pajamas This will come as no surprise to you, but I believe every adult needs to wear presentable pajamas. One of the hallmarks of adulthood is maturity and our sleepwear should be presentable and dignified.

A robe Most adults have a bath robe or dressing gown, but if you don't have one, consider getting one. They are great for covering up on cold mornings and also covering up sleepwear that might not be appropriate to walk around in.
🗝 Robes Ethical Silk Co. Plush Necessities
Steamer by Bizond
4. An iron and steamer A good iron and steamer will prevent your clothes from looking wrinkled and rumpled. A hand-held steamer is great to get out minor wrinkles and is more convenient than breaking out the large ironing board.
5. An investment account Saving for retirement is something that should begin right away. It's never too soon to start. Every adult needs an investment account to have their money working for them.
6. A watch Whether you prefer a digital watch, smart watch, or old-fashioned watch, it's a great to have a watch so you can tell the time without having to bring out your phone.
🗝 Watch Resources Nordstrom Bulova Boderry watches
7. Durable luggage We don't want to be shuffling around the airport with our old gym duffle bag. Every adult should have a suitable set of luggage to travel with.
🗝 Luggage
Solgaard Carry-On Closet MADAMECHIC gives 15% off Nomad Lane Bento Bag
Wallet by WP Standard8. A high-quality wallet Keep your money safe and stylish with a quality wallet. You don't want to use something that is not intended to be a wallet to hold your money as you could lose your cards.
🗝 WalletsWP Standard thedailyconnoisseur for free monogram (wallets cannot be monogrammed)Teddy Blake TBJennC30 for $30 off Wallets at Nordstrom
9. Matching undergarments High-quality undergarments are as important as the rest of your outfit as they are the foundation of your whole look. Ladies, there is something magical about the feeling of wearing matching undergarments. It doesn't have to be an official set, but the idea of generally matching the bra to the panties gives you a very grown-up feel.

10. A nice set of dishes Every adult needs a good set of dishes. We should graduate from the mis-matched chipped dishes of our college days with one solid set. You don't have to go fancy if you don't want to. A good plain set of white dishes can do the trick. You'll be amazed how a good set of dishes elevates the dining experience.

Katie writes, "Upon hearing your experience, Jennifer, I put intermittent fasting in practice and it's been amazing for both my husband and I. We've both lost weight, kept it off and most important, feel better and have more energy! We don't follow a particular diet but I cook a lot of Mediterranean style foods which also makes us feel really good. Such a blessing ❤️"
Hi Katie, That's wonderful! I love Mediterranean-style foods too. They are so delicious!
Thank you for watching today's video. I would love to know what you would add to this list. Your comment could be chosen as comment of the week! See you soon. Love, Jennifer

Chic Assignment No. 3 Dress up for no reason this monthSomething special happens when you decide to dress stylishly for no reason. You are telling yourself that you are special enough to adorn yourself well for everyday life, which, in turn, boosts your self-esteem and self-respect.
Chic Assignment No. 4 Replace a recurring negative thought with one of gratitudeTo build on the gratitude and joy we have been journaling so far this year, this month, when you experience a recurring negative thought, replace it with one of gratitude. For example, right before you do the dishes, you might think, "I hate doing the dishes!" This may be true, but stop yourself before you get to the end of the sentence and replace it with, "I am so grateful to have dishes to do." Or some other thought of gratitude. This instantly elevates the experience and brings gratitude to the forefront of our mind, instead of displeasure.
I hope you enjoy The Chic Assignment this month. I look forward to hearing about your experience. Let us know on social media by using the hashtag #TheChicAssignment. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday! Love, Jennifer

Intermittent Fasting 2-Year Update | My SURPRISING Results
Two years ago I decided I wanted to lose weight. I wasn't happy at my current weight and wanted to lose at least ten pounds. I decided to try intermittent fasting after watching a few videos about it on YouTube (don't you just love YouTube?) I ended up losing over 30 lbs and returning to my weight from my youth. The weight loss was surprising enough but I have also been blown away by the other health benefits from intermittent fasting. Watch my two-year update video to hear all about it. I also answer your most pressing questions. I hope you enjoy today's video!

5 Reasons to Live a More Formal Life
In my first book, Lessons from Madame Chic, one of my favorite chapters discusses how we should live life as a formal affair. In today's video, we explore how living life as a formal affair can improve our health, style, and more. 1. Living a formal life helps you maintain a healthy weight If you think about the actions of a very casual life, you might picture someone in sweat pants sitting on the sofa, binge watching tv and mindlessly eating chips out of the bag, or ice cream out of the container. While this might feel comfortable, this mindless and informal behavior over time can be detrimental to your health. You aren’t paying attention to what you’re eating or what you’re doing and you are prone to overeating and gaining weight over time. When life is a formal affair, you snack less and enjoy your meals at designated meal times while sitting down to a well-set table. This allows you to remain present and notice what you’re eating. You’re likelier to eat healthier meals because of this, and have a more conscious experience.
2. Living a formal life keeps you stylish When you become accustomed to a more casual life, your style gets casual too. Just look at popular culture… as time goes on we all get more casual and comfortable. It’s a gradual adjustment but when I was growing up, it was rare to see people outside in sweats and pajamas and now it’s commonplace. Look up images of how people used to travel on airplanes and compare that to what you see in the airport today. When you live a more formal life, you tend to still dress up on a regular basis. You don’t have the mindset that wearing day clothes is uncomfortable. Rather, you would become uncomfortable if you weren’t appropriately dressed. The thought of going out in public in tattered sweats would horrify you.
3. Living a formal life keeps your mind sharpLiving a more formal life beckons you to learn more than consume. Watching entertainment on tv or at the movies definitely has its place. But as society has become more casual, more people find themselves wasting vast amounts of time binge-watching tv shows or channel surfing and consuming content that they’re not even that thrilled about. When you begin to live a more formal life, you become interested in expanding your mind and learning more about topics that interest you. This is why I run my Chic Assignments, which encourage us to step out of ourselves and immerse ourselves in the arts each month. There’s nothing wrong with letting loose and relaxing in front of the TV but when you begin to live a more formal life, you aren’t really attracted to spending your time like that anymore. You start to listen to audio books while doing housework. You enroll in courses online. You turn your traffic commute into a university where you stretch yourself to learn.
4. Living a formal life helps you keep good manners. As society becomes more casual, so do our manners… Have you notice that? Civility has declined in recent years. Tempers are high and fuses are short. When you slow down and live a more conscious and formal life, you are more apt to care about behavior and decorum and keep good manners and etiquette a top priority for you. If you haven’t already seen my video about remaining unbothered, I highly recommend you watch it. As we go through life we are going to encounter difficult people and situations. How we react to these situations is everything. The person who lives a more formal life employs restraint and calls upon proper etiquette. If everyone did this, wouldn’t everyday life be so much more pleasant?
5. Living a formal life keeps your space clutter-free I recently did a video sharing the Madame Chic Method for living in a clutter-free home. If your surroundings are formal, you are likely to notice unsightly clutter more. More casual environments can attract clutter because, hey! Anything goes! But in a formal environment, you are attuned to living in a beautiful space and are more likely to sort through your cluttered zones on a regular basis.

Homemaking to Keep Calm
Homemaking to keep calm… Let’s explore that concept in today’s video.
Welcome back to The Daily Connoisseur. We use homemaking for many things: out of necessity, of course, but we often turn to it for other reasons. And in times of darkness and stress, we can alter our homemaking to accommodate how we are feeling, or more importantly, what we need to feel. When I think of the word calm, I also think of the word, “comfort”. So today we are making some comfort foods: turkey shepherd’s pie and butterscotch pudding. I’m also cleaning the kitchen by candlelight.

Shepherd’s pie is a favorite for everyone in the family and occasionally I like to make a twist on the traditional recipe. I’m going to make a double batch of turkey shepherd’s pie: one for today and one for the freezer. I’m making this late in the evening on a very rainy night… it’s for the next day’s meal. So, you’ve been watching me get the mashed potatoes going and now I’m sautéing the onion in oil and preparing the other vegetables: carrots and mushrooms. I had to step out into the rain to get parsley from the garden but it was totally worth it. I add that in now. Once the vegetables are browned I add the ground turkey. This looks like a lot because I’m making a double-batch. The potatoes are cooked so I drain them and add them to my stand mixer along with melted butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Drain the turkey mixture once it’s cooked, if needed. Then I add some chicken bullion, flour to thicken, salt and pepper, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Now I’m preparing the pans: one for tomorrow’s dinner and one for the freezer. I add the meat mixture and then top with the creamy mashed potatoes. I won’t cook this any further but let it cool and cover with foil. Tomorrow, I’ll pop it in the oven and put it under the broiler to heat and brown it.
Pajama top and bottom by Neiwai JS10 for 10% off Candle by OtherlandSome time has passed and I am now I’m in my pajamas… time to clean up the kitchen. There isn’t too much of a mess this evening. I’m going to light a candle to keep me company. Let’s explore calmness and how we can demonstrate it in our homemaking. Calm as an adjective means not showing or feeling anger, nervousness, or other strong emotions. Calm as a verb means to make someone tranquil or quiet… to soothe. How can we make homemaking calming… a balm to soothe our unquiet hearts and minds? A tranquil meditation that, at once, looks after not only our homes, but ourselves too. We can turn our homemaking into a meditation… no matter what is going on around us. No matter what storms are outside. There’s a pop song called, Thunderclouds. The kids and I love it. The chorus says, don’t be afraid of these thunderclouds. The other night there was a thunderstorm and as I looked out the window, my daughter sang the lyrics to that song. I felt an instant calm. Focus on the soothing and repetitive nature of homemaking to induce calm. Go easy on yourself. Go slow. All we have is this present moment. Breathe deeply. And goodnight for now.
Let’s prepare the butterscotch pudding. Years ago, I loved to dine at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. They had a butterscotch pudding dessert that was out of this world. It was elevated, yet comforting. That’s what I want to make today. This recipe is from the Pioneer Woman. I begin by separating four egg yolks from the whites. I end up using the whites for my breakfast omelet. I add the egg yolks to 3 cups of whole milk and whisk together. On the stove, I combine brown sugar, cornstarch and salt. Then I whisk in the milk and egg yolk mixture and turn the heat on medium, stirring regularly and cook this until it gets bubbly and thick, which took around 7 minutes. Then I add the butter and turn off the heat and mix it all up. I then transfer this to these lovely footed dessert dishes. If you don’t have these, you can use a glass or even teacup. Just let the mixture cool slightly if you’re placing it in a container that can’t take heat. After this step, place them in the refrigerator for at least an hour. This whole time I’ve been reheating my shepherd’s pie in the oven. It takes around 45 minutes at 350 degrees to heat all the way through but it will depend on your oven. I place it under the broiler for 3 to 4 minutes to brown the top of it… a complete must. I served this with a sprig of fresh parsley on top. The whole family loves this dish. It provides a calming comfort. Time for dessert… The pudding is chilled and set. I made some homemade whipped cream and place a dollop on top of the dessert. I enjoy this for teatime today with a hot cup of Pique black bergamot tea. What an outstanding pudding. This recipe is a keeper.
Thank you for joining me today. I hope you found a meditative calm in homemaking with me. Thank you to Pique for bringing us today’s video. Get 5% + a free Pique sampler pack when you purchase 2+ cartons of Btox code DAILYC

Comment of the Week
Joy writes, "I really believe classic style is a great foundation. You can easily take classic pieces and add “trendy” pieces to them. Or just keep it simple with all classic items in an outfit. You really can’t go wrong with classic style (in my opinion)."
Hi Joy, I couldn't agree more! Classic style is timeless...

The Chic Assignment Check-In | March 2022
Welcome to The Chic Assignment Check-In for March, 2022.
The Chic Assignment series is brought to us by The Chic Society, the private membership group on YouTube. Joining The Chic Society gives you access to my exclusive members-only vodcast, which is published every Friday. I also do one livestream a month or do a Zoom call where we can all visit together and we now have a penpal program! Membership is only $1.99 a month (upper tiers are also available and are shown down below).
Chic Assignment No. 1 Enjoy Vivaldi's Spring from The Four Seasons
Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741) was an Italian Baroque composer, most famous for The Four Seasons- a group of four violin concertos which give musical expression to each season of the year. This month we listened to Vivaldi's Spring from The Four Seasons performed by The Capital String Quartet
Isn't it wonderful to put a name to this famous song? You will know it forevermore. Today we learn some interesting facts about Vivladi that were gathered from Connolly Music.
Chic Assignment No. 2 Explore the poetry of T.S. Eliot (1888- 1965)
T.S. Eliot was an American poet, essayist, publisher, playwright, literary critic, and editor. He is considered one of the 20th centuries major poets.
T.S. Eliot (1888 - 1965)
You can read his poetry for free on Poetry Foundation and you can purchase T.S. Eliot Collected Poems
Today we read Conversation Galante and the first stanza from his most famous poem, The Waste Land... which expresses the sentiment of despair after World War 1.

Chic Assignment No. 3 Prepare your ten-item wardrobe for the upcoming season
This month we explored the method for your ten-item capsule wardrobe style strategy. It is very helpful to set your style to words. Become more intentional about your wardrobe by thinking of what you would like to project as you wear it. Look up the definition of your words. When you define them, you can further embody them with your dress.

Chic Assignment No. 4 Journal your joy. Journaling your joy increases your capacity for it. You begin to find joy in new things and joy now seeks you out. It's all about awareness. Journaling your joy is also a form of gratitude journaling. I tend to notice the smaller things in life bring me joy. I will continue to practice this along with gratitude journaling this year. I would love to know your experience with this.

Bonnie writes, "A tip that I've found helpful with "Look at your home with fresh eyes" : Take a photo of a room, or parts of a room, and closely examine the photos. This is easier than ever thanks to cameras on our phones. Looking at a photo of a room/space provides just enough detachment, which really helps with seeing a space with fresh eyes. I always notice clutter in photos that I don't see in person."
Bonnie, that is so true. Whenever my kids get ahold of my phone and take pictures I'm sometimes surprised by how the room looks!
