September 20, 2021: Gen Con Sale On Warehouse 23 Ends Today

September 19, 2021: New Munchkin Cards In The Random Fun Generator 2 Kickstarter Campaign

As part of the upcoming Random Fun Generator 2 Kickstarter campaign (follow the project today!), we have created a small pack of seven new Munchkin cards. Featuring the artwork of Katie Cook, these cards will be limited in the Kickstarter, but they are not exclusive to the project and may be available again in the future.

This pack of seven new cards will be included with the Dungeon Survival Pack: Kitten Adventurers reward level ($42 for the new book, the dice bag, and the new cards) in the campaign. As mentioned, the reward will be limited on Kickstarter, so joining in the new project the day it launches is the best way to guarantee that you get your hands on these new cards.

September 17, 2021: Pre-Order Car Wars Miniatures Set 2 Today!

As our warehouse crew prepares for the monumental task of shipping the Car Wars Sixth Edition rewards to the Kickstarter backers, we have opened pre-orders for the game, expansions, and accessories at Warehouse 23. The most popular types of expansions selected by project supporters in the BackerKit surveys were the miniatures boxes, four different sets that each include five minis and 148 game cards that increase the number of available vehicle design options for the game.

Car Wars Miniatures Set 2 , not included in the Double Ace box, comes with five car miniatures that are not found in any other set: Spark, Pure Energy, Redline, Sledge, and Apollo. These five miniatures are shipped unpainted, but pre-assembled, and the color-coded miniatures bases are the quickest way to differentiate players' cars for those of you who are eager to start playing before you even attempt to paint your cars.

September 16, 2021: SJ Games At Gen Con 2021!

After a long year off we're back in Indianapolis Thursday, September 16 - Sunday, September 19 for Gen Con! It's been a crazy couple of years, but we're excited to be back at the biggest game convention in North America. We'll be posted up at booth #1201, demoing a ton of recent and upcoming releases like Car Wars Sixth Edition and Munchkin Russia . Of course, we'll be selling games as well, and we'll be including various promo items like dice, cards, and pins with purchases. You can find out more details about those deals below as well as at the booth! Speaking of pins, we're also taking part in the Pin Bazaar, and we've got the all-new Car Wars pin for $10!

We've also got some special events going on at the booth. Randy and Jimmie will be running hour-long blocks of Car Wars Sixth Edition  arena battles that you can sign up for at the booth each day. These will be a great way to learn how to play, as well as a chance to play against a staff member! If you've gone through the arena and want more, you'll have a chance to sign up for a giant mosh pit style of game where prizes may be at stake. Our Munchkin team will be talking Munchkin Russia with the Hobby World team, so keep an eye out for that (we'll try to record it). 

You won't be left out if you're stuck at home, though! I'll also be running some Deadly Doodles play-alongs on #SJGamesLive at noon on Friday and Saturday (you can check them out on Twitch, Facebook, or YouTube).

September 15, 2021: Dragon Con Report

This was my first DC in more than a decade. Physically exhausting but creatively rejuvenating. I have missed conventions.

Along with author, game designer, and Mayfair Games founder Bill Fawcett*, I hosted a two-day workshop at this year's Dragon Con. There were discussions each morning and game presentations in the afternoon. Our speakers included Jean McGuire (Wintertree Software), Phillip E. Pournelle (author and U.S. Navy wargame designer), Kenneth Hite (author of over 100 roleplaying games and supplements), and IP attorney Courtney Lytle Sarnow. We were also joined by N.Y. Times best-selling author S.M. Stirling, a recreational gamer, who helped us with our evaluations. Each student was encouraged to bring a prototype or draft of a game or supplement to review. The panel's reactions ranged from "You have some good ideas here, but need a different presentation," through "I would like to play this," to "This might be a commercial success!" We want to do this again next year.

I did my usual talks on what's coming up next from the company, and showed off the prototype of the Foam Unnatural Axe and the #1-in-the-wild Giant Munchkin d10. Then we sent the d10 to the auction, and it raised $1,000 for charity. Thank you, bidders!

Ken and I did a couple of panels, joined on one by Jean, and they also went well. Ken is a brilliant exponent of the Great Man theory in gaming, and it was a huge pleasure to work with him.

And, thanks no doubt to my Pfizer jabs and trusty N95, I made it home in one piece!

September 14, 2021: Celebrating Andrew In Indianapolis

As many of you know, our dear friend and Munchkin Czar, Andrew Hackard, passed away in June. We miss him every day . . .

Andrew expressed a wish to his parents not to have a funeral service. He wanted a party instead – and so it shall be! On Friday, September 17, (during Gen Con 2021), at the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis, Andrew's family is hosting a celebration of Andrew's life. If you're in Indianapolis, and if you ever enjoyed one of Andrew's awful puns, you are invited! It will be a come-and-go affair from 6:00 pm until 10:30; at 7:00 there will be some short remarks and a video presentation. Non-alcoholic beverages will be served, and there will be a cash bar (for beer and wine only). Light refreshments will also be available. Tables will be available for socializing and playing games. Please feel free to bring a game that you love – and share it with folks in Andrew's memory.  For the safety of all attendees and their families and friends, the family does request that all attendees respect social distancing and wear masks when not eating or drinking. If you're in the neighborhood, come by, lift a glass, and play a game with us.

Now, as awesome as that is, it's only the opening shot as we prepare to take the project to Kickstarter where, with your support, we'll also produce a hardcover edition of the book.
