August 21, 2021: Flashback With 80's Games Workshop

This was a fun artifact of the 80's that was suggested to me on YouTube, surely due to my habit of binge watching Games Workshop-related material during my hobby time. It's a local UK news feature on Games Workshop and "Fantasy Gaming" (their emphasis, not mine) at the time. The original GW owners, Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson (the other one), have a great interview on tabletop gaming, particularly Dungeons & Dragons;  you even get to see the classic red box and a bevy of other games of the era. There are also a few other interviews with employees and patrons of the store, and if you're used to a modern Games Workshop store, this may be an interesting look at their origins as a more general tabletop gaming store. Plus, you get sneak peeks at really classic Warhammer art on the walls of the offices. As a fan of classic commercials and classic gaming, this was just a treasure trove. It's crazy to think that 35 years later we'd be working with Games Workshop to make games like Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar !

August 19, 2021: A Giant Munchkin Level Die

When we launched the new Munchkin campaign on Kickstarter earlier this week, we never imagined that the giant d10 would be so popular. The two promo booklets (one for promo cards and one for bookmarks) are being printed in the United States, allowing us to receive the booklets quickly, and we thought the die might make a fun companion to the project. Clearly, we underestimated the demand for a one-pound level die.

If you have not yet joined the campaign, we recommend you act now if you want that red d10. Our supply of giant Munchkin level dice is fast approaching zero, meaning that there's a strong likelihood the die will not be an option when the 48-hour notices go out next week.

And yes, we're exploring various possibilities and we may come back next year with the die in other colors. News to come!

Click here to join the campaign today!

August 18, 2021: Over 100 GURPS Books Available On Demand!

[Image] Thanks to the magic of the 21st century and the internet, we're now better able to keep the GURPS catalog available in print with the GURPS On Demand program. With over 100 books now available through the program, many of you who have been trying to fill those holes in your GURPS library have an easier time than ever to pick up a book or two. While not every published GURPS book is included in GURPS On Demand, we're still adding titles and will do so until we've managed to make every possible GURPS book available through the system.

What is GURPS On Demand? Amazon's global print-on-demand services, combined with their shipping capabilities, make it easier than ever for GURPS players around the world to get printed books quickly and at reasonable prices. Where we once had to print books and ship them across the world, GURPS On Demand offloads the printing/shipping to Amazon and they minimize the cost for gamers by printing as close to the destination address as possible.

Visit our GURPS On Demand page for a list of all 100+ titles that are available right now through this miraculous wonder of 21st century printing science!

August 17, 2021: Munchkin Promo Card And Bookmark Booklet Kickstarter Is Live

Munchkin and promos, two words that go together like peanut butter and jelly. We've been known to produce quite a few promotional cards and bookmarks for Munchkin over the years, and while many collectors have tracked them down, some have become harder to find. This inspired our current Kickstarter campaign, featuring two booklets containing various promo cards and bookmarks that you can use in-game! Bookmarks weren't very hard to reimagine; they tend to exist outside of the game anyway, so having them in a booklet form doesn't change much. But how do you play promo cards that are printed in a book? That's where Munchkin Blank Cards come in handy! You'll use a d20 to tell you which promo card to use, and the blank cards serve as placeholders in the decks to tell you when to use them! Some core sets include blank cards, but you can also get them through this campaign as an add-on and through various pledge tiers.

Kickstarter

But we couldn't leave well enough alone and just include two fun new books. No, we had to create a monster. The Munchkin d10 Level Die included in this campaign is a massive, and I mean massive, 80mm in size. It is absolutely enormous, and weighs so much we can't even recommend you roll it on a table. But fortunately, it's great for keeping track of your level and intimidating your opponents! Size doesn't always matter, but in this case, it matters a whole lot.

The Kickstarter ends Thursday, August 26, so get your pledges in soon! The better the campaign does, the more bonus promos we can include with the pledges in stretch goals!

August 14, 2021: Flying Buffalo Games Sold To Webbed Sphere

In recent game news, industry stalwart Flying Buffalo Games has been sold to Webbed Sphere, Inc., as announced on August 4 via their press release. Many long-time gamers know of the legendary Rick Loomis, who tragically passed away in 2019. Not many people can claim to have been around as long as Steve, but Rick was one of those few, with classics like Nuclear War and Tunnels and Trolls from the 70s leaving a legacy that still resonates today. Heck, it wasn't a convention if I didn't see Rick's booth and his Tunnels and Trolls banners. Now that's staying power! Fortunately, John Ward of Webbed Sphere is keeping the brand alive after its purchase from the estate.

As per their press release:

"Flying Buffalo and Rick Loomis hold an esteemed position in the history of gaming, and we are proud to now be a part of that legacy," said John Ward, CEO of Webbed Sphere. "Flying Buffalo has thrilled generations of gamers over the past 50 years, and it will make a great compliment to our Toy Vault and Mchezo brand lines. I am excited about what the future holds."

It would have been a shame for the Flying Buffalo brand to disappear, so here's to Rick's legacy being carried on for the next generation of gamers.

August 13, 2021: The Fantasy Trip: Ardonirane At Warehouse 23, Amazon, And DrivethruRPG

[Image] It has been over one year since the Kickstarter campaign for Ardonirane , David Pulver's "City of the Thorsz" sourcebook for use with The Fantasy Trip , successfully funded. This title, available in PDF as well as print-on-demand, details:Dozens of character and location descriptionsSorcerous intrigues against the ThorszDesert nomads: friends, foes, and For HireWhat can happen when wizards cooperate with mechaniciansAdventure seeds inside and outside the cityWhen it comes to books these days, especially B&W softcovers, we're finding that print-on-demand is a fabulous option since it makes it much easier for gamers across the world to get their hands on the work without paying outrageous shipping costs. Add to that the lack of need to keep much (if any) inventory, and it is a win-win approach to book publishing.

To add Ardonirane to your library, please visit:Warehouse 23 (PDF or print)Amazon (Print)DrivethruRPG (PDF)To see our growing catalog of content for use with The Fantasy Trip , you may also wish to visit the category pages at Warehouse 23, Amazon, and DrivethruRPG. August 12, 2021: New Munchkin Booklets On Kickstarter Next Week!

[Image] Munchkins have been doing their level best (get it?) to kick open doors, kill monsters, and grab treasure for more than two decades, and in that time we've created a lot of Munchkin  promo cards and bookmarks that add unexpected twists to the game. Now, in two different booklets, we've gathered some of our favorite Munchkin promo cards and bookmarks from over the years so that everyone has a chance to use them.

Coming to Kickstarter next week, this new campaign gives you a chance to incorporate 40 different promo cards and 16 different bookmarks in your Munchkin games. These two booklets include all of the rules necessary to add these items to your game, giving many of you the opportunity to play with cards and bookmarks that you may have missed out on collecting.

Please note that this is not a promo card and bookmark reprint project. These are two saddle-stitched, full-color booklets, each making it easier than ever to use several different promo cards and bookmarks during play . . . and without damaging(!) those hard-to-get collectibles that you may already have in your possession.

Please follow the new campaign today to receive email notification when the project launches on Kickstarter next week!
