August 21, 2021: Flashback With 80's Games Workshop
This was a fun artifact of the 80's that was suggested to me on YouTube, surely due to my habit of binge watching Games Workshop-related material during my hobby time. It's a local UK news feature on Games Workshop and "Fantasy Gaming" (their emphasis, not mine) at the time. The original GW owners, Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson (the other one), have a great interview on tabletop gaming, particularly
Dungeons & Dragons;
you even get to see the classic red box and a bevy of other games of the era. There are also a few other interviews with employees and patrons of the store, and if you're used to a modern Games Workshop store, this may be an interesting look at their origins as a more general tabletop gaming store. Plus, you get sneak peeks at really classic
Warhammer
art on the walls of the offices. As a fan of classic commercials and classic gaming, this was just a treasure trove. It's crazy to think that 35 years later we'd be working with Games Workshop to make games like
Munchkin Warhammer 40,000
and
Age of Sigmar
!
