August 1, 2021: Now Available On Demand: GURPS Goblins

You want something different? Helloooo? Oh, right; you cannot reciprocate via this one-way communication medium. Misunderstanding and other indignities such as these are part and parcel of the GURPS Goblins experience, which puts you into a Georgian London that is realistic in every way except for the fact that you, your families, and those you interact with are goblins . . . although the fact that your humble author has no direct experience with London of the year 1830 cannot immediately disprove this seeming anachronism, either. Anyway, the aforementioned humorous GURPS Goblins is now available in print, as part of our On Demand program.

"But wait!" we hear the rhetorical reader of these words. "We were promised something different in the previous paragraph! What chicanery is this?" First, we commend you on the use of chicanery; it's a splendid word, one which doesn't see nearly enough use in these days decidedly lacking in splendor. But to answer the rhetorical: While all other on-demand volumes have been available solely in black and white, GURPS Goblins is available in two versions: one of which is similarly black and white, the other of which adds color to the proceedings. The original version – available as a PDF – was a 144-page volume, of which 90 were color. If you want a version that re-creates the original experience, select the color one. Otherwise, if you want to save your shillings for other goblin-y goodness, we might suggest the black-and-white version.

If you are fully in the downtrodden-goblin mindset, it may be beyond your lot in life to demand anything. However – should you conjure the gumption to do so – you may demand either version of GURPS Goblins , as you like it . . . on demand!

July 30, 2021: Summer Game Day At The Office!

Yesterday was our first summer game day at the SJ Games offices! We normally have holiday game days around Halloween and Christmas, but this was a much-needed reunion for the office after months of working at home alone. We hosted some out-of-town staff (Julie, Alain, and Amy traveled to hang out with us)! Even seeing the local folks was a welcome change of pace. We were also joined by some friends from PSI, Fireside Games, and Amigo! 

While we sometimes play our own games (like our Revolution! playtests and some Munchkin), most game days are dedicated to playing games from our own personal collections. Many of us brought newer releases and Kickstarters that have sat unplayed on the shelves for the past months. I know I am always trying to learn or teach a new game during the day. And let it not be understated how much BBQ there was. We ate so much food (special shoutout to Jane's deviled eggs!).

Heading into the stresses of convention season and holiday sales, it was nice to get a breather and remember why we do what we do: we love to play games!

July 28, 2021: Building Ogre Miniatures

We've had a lot of fun with Ogre Miniatures over the years! We've made our way to Set 3 , with a new set still in development, but recently on #SJGamesLive we revisited the OG, Ogre Miniatures Set 1 , and did a bit of a build guide. I'm a big fan of the miniature hobby, from building to painting to playing, and we've talked painting and playing, but hadn't really talked about building multi-part plastic kits before, so I figured why not! 

If you're interested in building some minis, Ogre or otherwise, it's worth checking out. Maybe you'll be inspired to pick up a set of your own to add a bit of a deluxe flair to your copy of Ogre Sixth Edition! And who knows, maybe we'll paint them up on a future episode . . .

July 26, 2021: T-Shirt Reprints Now Available On RedBubble

Due to popular demand, the shirt designs featured in the 2020 Summer T-Shirt Collection Kickstarter campaign are now available via RedBubble print-on-demand! These designs were a hit last year, but due to our printing capabilities at the time, we had to limit the production. Now that we have print-on-demand, we can offer them more easily! One oddity: when selecting your design, the default is to a white shirt, and you can't see what the design looks like, so make sure to change the color of the shirt to your preference!

July 25, 2021: Red Dragons And Skulls

We're often planning several months to a year out, taking actions today that will lead to new projects in the future. In an attempt to have some fun extras and add-ons for Warehouse 23 sales and Kickstarter campaigns, we sometimes work with the factory to run a wave of dice in a new color and/or design. Recently, we've been taking advantage of the dragon and skull family mold to create new colors of the dice found in the Dragon d6 Dice Set and Skull d6 Dice Set . 

One such new color is a translucent red that reminds me of cherry cough drops. While we do not yet have an exact home for these dice (maybe the Random Fun Generator 2 Kickstarter campaign?), we are positive that these look fabulous! What a lovely shade of red! I'm looking forward to mixing dozens of these into my bag of six-sided dice.

We offer our PDFs at two different sites: our online store, Warehouse 23, as well as the DrivethruRPG PDF sales platform. Interestingly, sales at the two sites do not align perfectly, with DrivethruRPG seemingly reaching more gamers new to GURPS . Not surprisingly, with the emphasis on "new to GURPS ," the top sellers at DrivethruRPG are different than the top sellers at Warehouse 23.

July 23, 2021: FnordCon 4, November 5-7, 2021. Save The Date!

We've had such an overwhelmingly positive response to the last two Virtual Conventions that we've decided to keep the ball rolling! We've set aside the dates of November 5-7, and will use a similar structure as FnordCon 3. We've received some great feedback that we'll integrate into FnordCon 4, such as a late-night gaming room and open gaming on Saturday (for those looking for a quick game between the interviews).

I'd like to relay a bit of a conversation I had with a friend of mine as well, as I think you will agree that there ARE some hopeful consequences that have come out of these last 18 months. I was arranging to deliver some TFT goodies, and we hadn't talked for a few months. Before I could leave, he made a passing comment that the virtual FnordCons had been a really positive element for him. You see, he can't get away from the house easily, and certainly can't attend a long weekend convention. I mentioned that we had received some direct feedback that folks who could not attend conventions in the past had really enjoyed the virtual format and hoped we would continue them. He echoed that feedback and added that, with the number of folks who might have concerns about being around big crowds now, that feeling included could only be good in light of the struggles we've seen during Covid. I have to admit, I've always struggled with ways to be more inclusive, especially during my time owning Wonko's, so it was GREAT to hear we had succeeded and learned. I think the hybrid show is the way of the future; it gives folks the ability to take part in and enjoy a convention and be included in the fun without having to physically attend.
