Against My Better Judgement

Have you ever liked something you know you shouldn't? I mean really liked it...a lot?
No, I'm not talking about that guy you had a crush on in High School, though--seriously--what were you thinking?

I'm talking about entertainment.

Okay, this blog is geared toward writing, and therefore, books. Still, I think the lines between story delivery systems (ie: movies, TV, books, video games) are blurring fast, and a lot of the same rules apply these days.

So have you ever loved something, a movie or...

Techno-Babble

I've stumbled into it again. Something about my book-tech fascination, my obsessive curiosity and my ability to waste grotesque amounts of time just "farting around" on the internet keeps getting me into trouble.

In a good way.

I also tend to get excited about these fads about two days after they stop being cool...what can I say? Old people move a little slower.

Anyway, today I found out about cell phone novels. In Japan they're called Keitai Somthing or other. It means "cell phone" and somethi...

A'Bloggin Week

This week I'm going to be out and about. On Monday, (or tomorrow ;-) I'm guest blogging at star-crossed romance, talking about string theory and parallel dimensions in relation to my upcoming release, Dimensional Shift.
I'm running a contest all week for commenters there, one random winner will get a copy of Roarke, and any commenter can email for a freebie copy of the Temptation sampler ebook.

On Sat. the 12th I am guest blogging again at the Virtual Romance and Erotica Blog tour, and will m...

In Praise of Criticism

Spend some time in authors' circles and you'll hear it. It may be one of the most common pieces of advice dished out to "newbies," and with good reason. Find a critique group. Sound suggestion. Without a critique group an author is fated to personal bias, repeated mistakes, and a long future full of rejections that leave them asking, "but why?"

Unfortunately, the burgeoning author will not often get advice on how to take the criticism—even, heaven forbid, how to enjoy it. I mean really enjoy ...

My Hero

Anyone who has followed here, or has seen any of my interviews knows how much I love Andre Norton's books. If I had to choose a favorite author she would, no doubt, be at the top of the list. I will happily read anything and everything that has her name on it, and I was saddened to find out that she had passed away a few years ago. I found out late, mind you, but it still felt like a loss.

This week the world, and the universe of fantasy and sci-fi in particular, lost a man named Frank Fraz...

I'll Have a Double Shot of Sci-Fi Please...

I spent the majority of my thmghty eghb years in the greater Seattle area. Those of you from Seattle know that that means I probably have: webbed feet, a pale un-tanable complexion, an unusual appreciation/obsession with slimy garden mollusks (see my other blog for proof) and an intimate understanding of the nuances of Italian coffee drinks.

The point of which, is that I appreciate a good latte reference.

I'm also a science fiction fan, though not tech-savvy enough to qualify as a techno junki...

Guest Author, Ashley Ladd

Please join me in welcoming author, Ashley Ladd. She has kindly agreed to join us for the day.

You write Romance in a wide range of sub-genres, do you have a favorite? What is it about that particular genre that appeals to you as an author?

I love contemporary comedy romance. I also love time-travel.
I've always loved romantic comedy and I love adventure. Time-travel has a lot of possibilities for both.

Is there one sub-genre you find to be more difficult than others? Why?

Vampires are hard for...

When the Volcano Blows...

I don't know where I'm a gonna go...

Buffet again. How am I supposed to write a Holiday story when I have Jimmy Buffet on the brain? sigh.

I'm not much of a panic monger, but I can't help but feel a little bit nervous at the moment. You see, I watched the Mayan Prophecy special on discovery channel right after I saw An Inconvenient Truth, and together, they'd make almost anyone a tad twitchy.

Now every time I switch to the news, I see Iceland, earthquakes, oyster's without shells... and I start ...

Fins!

I discovered Jimmy Buffet too late. You can't become a parrot head at thirty, it's just silly. I mean, standing up and saying, "Hey this guy rocks!" when everyone else already knows it, just looks bad.

Still. He rocks.

I was thinking about Fins this week a lot. You know it, right? Fins to the left, fins to the right, and you're the only bait in town...
Been awhile since we talked about sharks, eh? Well....I met a doosey this week.
Aspiring author, you may not be the only bait in town, but you are...
