Frances Pauli writes across multiple genres. Her work is speculative, full of the fantastic, and quite often romantic at its core. Whenever possible, she enjoys weaving in a little humor. Once upon a time she was a visual artist, but she's since come to her senses. Now she fills her miniscule amount of free time with things like crochet, belly dance and abysmal ukulele playing. She lives in Central Washington State with her husband, two children, a pair of hairless dogs and five tarantulas. ...more

Usually (knock on wood) if I go back a little and ruminate, something will come to light that needs to be shifted before the book can move forward again. A character has done something that is not in their nature, a choice has been made that will cause issue later... Once i work it out and untangle the goof, so far, I've been able to move on quickly enough.(less)

Not when you finish a book, and not when you sell one, and not when you get a rejection. Keep going. Having more than one egg in your basket will not only give you options, it will keep you from becoming over attached to any of them. Second advice: learn to love criticism. Actually love it, at the very least for the opportunity it provides. Without the sting, it's too easy not to grow. Never settle for comfortable.(less)

I adored this book. It is a sympathetic, humorous, tragic and hopeful story told with a sensitive and well-researched hand. For any animal lover or anyone curious about the lines we draw between man and animal, a must read.

“I hate writing, I love having written.”
Dorothy Parker

“Good wine, fine chocolate and dangerous men! ”
Frances Pauli

“To be able to listen -- really, wholly passively, self-effacingly listen -- without presupposing, classifying, improving, controverting, evaluating,
approving or disapproving, without dueling with what is being said, without rehearsing the rebuttal in advance, without free-associating to portions of what is being said so that succeeding portions are not heard at all -- such listening is rare.”
Abraham Maslow

“I don't know much about being a millionaire, but I'll bet I'd be darling at it.”
Dorothy Parker

Résumé
Razors pain you,
Rivers are damp,
Acids stain you,
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful,
Nooses give,
Gas smells awful.
You might as well live.”
Dorothy Parker, Enough Rope
