Joanna Blake's New Release...Cuffed!

I'm a Government agent assigned to take down a notorious biker gang. She's just a girl who's in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I can't bend the rules, even if I know she's innocent.
Casey Jones is a natural beauty with curves that won't quit. With her big doe eyes and long legs, she's pure temptation. She's barely old enough to be working in a place that serves alcohol, but I can't stop myself from wanting to make her a woman.
My woman.
She's in the middle of something bad, and too stubborn to see that. She owes these guys for giving her a job when she ran away from home as a kid.
Now all I want to do is protect her.

AMAZON

\
I sipped my coffee, staring through the one way mirror.
Casey Jones was sitting behind a heavy steel table, bolted to the floor. With her long, graceful neck and dewy skin, she looked utterly out of place in such a cold, industrial setting.
She looked like she should be running through a Goddamn field of flowers. Or riding a horse in one of those soap commercials. Or… I don’t know, sitting by a fire surrounded by kittens.
With a man’s arms around her.
I realized that the man in my mind’s eyes was way too familiar. I’d pictured myself holding her. Where the hell was that coming from? She was one of them. Don’t be fooled by those big, beautiful eyes.
Focus Dewitt.
I opened the door.
“I got you a coffee.” She looked up at me, her face frightened. Again I thought, she does not belong here. But I was the one who had brought her in.
“Let’s start at the beginning. You came in for your shift at six pm.”
She nodded and tucked her hair behind her ear. The gesture was so childlike, I almost flinched. She really was barely old enough to be here without a parent.
But she didn’t have parents. She had Mason.
“Yes.”
“And during the course of the evening did you notice anything strange. Any altercations?”
She shook her head, pulling her knees up and wrapping her arms around them. Again, I felt a flush of guilt. She looked like a little girl, playing dress up.
“Are you cold?”
She’d insisted on giving me back my jacket but I was more than happy to hand it back to her. It had smelled so good when I put it on in the parking lot. I had to stop myself from sniffing it.
Like honeysuckle and sunshine.
I grimaced, glad no one could hear my thoughts. I sounded ridiculous. Like some love struck hero in a romance novel.
“I’m fine.”
She didn’t look fine. She looked tired and scared and cold. Probably hungry too.
“When is the last time you ate?”
She took a sip of her coffee and shook her head again.
“I’m okay.”
“When?”
She almost rolled her eyes at me and I had a moment of sympathy for Mason. He’d brought this girl up. And I had a feeling that she could give as good as she got. Maybe it was the stubborn little chin, but I could tell Casey Jones had backbone.
I grinned at the thought of the burly biker trying to tell the girl she was grounded.
“Before my shift. It got busy and I just- forgot.”
Well, fuck. No one she looked woozy. I decided to get her something to eat as soon as we got through the interview. Before I showed her the mug shots.
Considering how uncommunicative she was being, I had a feeling that wasn’t going to be productive. But I was doing this by the numbers with zero deviation.
I didn’t want anyone saying I was going easy on her because I wanted to toss her over my shoulder and run off with her. Even if it was true.
She was so small, I could probably lift her with one arm.

A New Release by E.D. Parr

Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today. It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book?
The story ‘Falling Star Valentine’ was inspired by shooting stars. We all know shooting stars are falling meteorites, but the romance remains when one streaks across the midnight blue sky, and when two, in close succession, zoom over the night vista as you stand on your hotel balcony, it’s a sight to behold. I travel a little with my day job and in the autumn of 2016, I had to travel a lot more than usual. One night when I couldn’t sleep because I was churning worries around, I went out onto the balcony of the hotel room I was staying in and stared up at the sky. The night sparkled cold and the sky displayed an array of stars suddenly seeming only meters away a shooting star flew across my line of vision, then another as if it followed the first.I’m a die-hard romantic and immediately my sweet but sexy character, Valentine Steel, had formed in my head. He’s Falling Star Valentine on his way to visit earth. Will he find love?
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
I usually know my characters immediately. They give me the story. I know what they will do and the way they will do it. I can hear their voices as I write. I’ve always been lucky enough to have the whole package, idea, characters, and story details appear in my mind. The only thing I have a problem with is their name. There the character is nameless, and until I find a name that suits the character, I can’t write the story. Funny huh? It was easy with Falling Star Valentine because Valentine Steel whispered his name along with his story at the outset—not so with my next project, ‘The Night Gardener.’
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
‘The Night Gardener’, will be published by Evernight Publishing in April. It’s a spooky MM love story, not quite PNR in that there are no shifters, vampires etc., but it is paranormal in that one of the heroes is a spirit or wandering soul. It took me ages to give my guys names. They stood around waiting for days and then suddenly, Zachary’s name came to me and Dane’s followed. I have to know both Christian and surname or nothing will work, (Smiles)Here’s the blurb:
Architect, Dane Lovell takes an off-season vacation in an old New England mansion, hoping to ease his broken heart, and spark his imagination. Impressed by the pretty gardens, he’s surprised by the sinister atmosphere of the river than winds through the estate. Dane settles down to his vacation and tries to immerse himself in his drawings. One night, the sound of the back door smashing open in the wind and rain shocks Dane from his work.
Spooky, gorgeous, and enigmatic Zachary Yarrow has brought logs for the fire. He’s the estate gardener and brings with him not just passion and a love affair for Dane, but a strange, spine-tingling mystery.
Who is Zachary, and what will happen when Dane finds out?
I’m also writing an MM romance titled Given Time, a contemporary love story with some paranormal twists. I’m about seven thousand words into that story but need to focus on ‘Falling Star Valentine’ for a couple of weeks since we’re in Valentine’s month.
Thank you for inviting me to your blog.

Fashion photographer Dale Walker takes a train to his hometown, relocating there after nursing a broken heart for six months in another city. His train makes an unscheduled stop to take on a mysterious passenger.
For a long time, Valentine Steel has hoped to meet a man who will love him. When he sees Dale on the train, he’s overjoyed to find a vacant seat beside Dale.
Dale’s immediate attraction to Valentine has him on edge. He doesn’t want another broken heart, and yet Valentine is so magnetic Dale’s frozen heart begins to thaw.
Valentine sets out to charm and capture Dale in his sparkling aura. He can’t let the chance to have Dale’s love slip away. This could be his last chance to stay on Earth the planet he loves.
Read an excerpt A soft sound of regret that he’d given his heart away so easily escaped Dale and then the sudden slowing of the train grabbed his attention. Thrown a little forward by the rapid decrease in speed, Dale huddled back in his seat. No one sat beside him and the magazine he’d placed on the adjacent seat flew off forcefully as the train ground to a halt.
People stood and gaped out of the windows. Dale peered out at the white expanse sparkling in the morning sun, unaware until then that the train had even traveled into snow-covered country. The hum of concerned questions filled the carriage as people looked around and talked in hushed voices. There’d been no collision, no terrible sound of an accident and Dale, in the fog of his misery, waited quietly for some indication of what was going on.
An announcement floated from the practically invisible speaker at the front of the carriage. A pretty sound chimed and a soothing voice stated the obvious before giving information.
“Translines Rail has made an unscheduled stop. We apologize for the inconvenience. There is no need for alarm. We will shortly be mobile again when a passenger has boarded. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your journey.”
Dale bent to pick up the magazine that had fallen to the floor of the carriage. He hadn’t even placed a fingertip on the glossy cover when a hand extending from the cuff of a black jacket sleeve took hold of the magazine, and lifted it.
Dale swiftly looked sideways to see who the hand belonged to, and came face-to-face with a gorgeous man. Something about the man made Dale’s heart lurch, which scared him, and because of the scare his heartbeat increased. He closed his eyes for a few seconds, trying to calm this sudden flare of nerves. He gave up on retrieving his reading material and sat up in the plush velveteen train seat waiting for what would happen next.
“Your journal. Is the seat free?” The man’s gentle voice soothed him only a little as he held Dale’s magazine out, and gave an indicative nod toward the vacant seat beside Dale.
“Thank you, and yes the seat is free.” Captured by his outright beauty, Dale tried not to stare at the man. He dropped his gaze to the colorful shot on the cover, and accepted the magazine, holding it on his lap.
The man sat.
Dale struggled not to look at the passenger beside him, whose cologne now filled up his senses with a delicate, fresh, scent, a fragrance capturing the cool breeze crossing the ocean on a summer night, somehow full of promise. The suit the man wore was visibly expensive. Dale knew quality when he saw it even if it was only on a quick look. As a photographer for major fashion magazines, he’d gathered a knowledge and appreciation for clothes.
Dale stared ahead and wondered if this man was the passenger the train had stopped for. He edged a little away from the central armrest dividing the seats—their size was generous and the man wasn’t even close, but Dale could feel his presence as if gripped by a magnetic force. Finally, unable to help it, Dale chanced a sideways glance. Copyright E.D.Parr 2017 Evernight Publishing

Evernight Teen's Stormy Corrin Russell Visits!

Hello Stormy! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?First off, thanks for having me! And why yes, yes it is! The Separation Trilogy is my most recent project, a look into a dystopian world where men and women live on opposite sides of an impenetrable wall. Each has always been told that the people on the other side of the wall are monsters. When Eroyn meets one of the men from the other side, however, she sees things differently.

Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind?I put on comfy clothes, get a drink, put my hair into a messy bun, and get cracking! Somehow, this usually works.
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write? Both! First, I fill out character sheets like this one! I find them super helpful. Then, as I’m writing, I try to always consider how that complex, flawed, glorious person would react to the situation I’m throwing them in.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?A sprinkle here, a dash there. I like to put the essence of people I actually know into characters even though I don’t “base” characters on them. I write for young adults primarily, so I also try and make sure to involve issues that I know they experience in real life.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
Right now I’m working on book three in The Separation Trilogy. The last book is this whirlwind of battle, romance, sacrifice, and revelations about the world Eroyn (my MC) lives in. It’s an absolute blast to write, but also exhausting emotionally. I am so not ready to say goodbye to these characters!

EXCERPT
I'm not sure what “unassisted expulsion” will be like, but it doesn't sound good. Suddenly this cell doesn't seem quite so bad. At least in here I can pretend that everything will get better. At least in here, I can imagine that I’ll get out and see Luna again. I might go crazy in the meantime, but at least there's hope. Not long after Phoenix leaves, two women come through the door and wrench me to my feet. I don't know their faces, but I can guess that they know mine. And they don't like me. The one on the left is leaving bruises on my arms with her fingers, but I bite my lip and don't complain as they drag me from the cell. I wonder how many women fought over the pleasure of getting to hurt me before I'm kicked out of the compound. Probably a lot. Rather than dragging me into the light of day, they drop me roughly at the end of the hallway, in front of feet that I recognize. Tabby. “So you're the one who gets to—” I'm cut off by a backhanded slap, hard enough to send me reeling. The other officers stifle laughter. I rub my cheek, eyes watering. That was unexpected. I stare resolutely at the stone floor, tears in my eyes, until the other women disappear. “Sorry.” Tabby offers a calloused hand. “Gotta keep up appearances.” I take her hand and haul myself to my feet with a hesitant smile. I forgot that no one knows about her part in all this. I guess she probably wants to keep her reputation clean; she's under enough pressure as it is. Lacking any bit of femininity in her body, Tabby has always been under judgmental eyes. Now that the eyes are all on me, I don't blame her for wanting them to stay there. “Avalon's at the gate, waiting for you.” She points down the dark stone tunnel, and I am glad that I get to walk this far on my own. Soon, her outline is clear in front of me, and I see a smile flash across her features. “Ero!” She reaches out to embrace me, which is almost as unexpected as Tabby's slap. “I knew they'd let you go; I'm the one who suggested exile, you know. I begged for your life, told them you weren't a bad person! I knew they'd let you go.” She smiles again, but this one is sadder. “I don't have much to give you. They said 'unassisted expulsion,' but I have this.” She withdraws a small bag and opens it, revealing what looks like bread, cheese, and maybe some smoked meat. Pushing it into my hands, she takes a deep breath. “Avalon, I can't.” “If you don't, you'll die.” Her expression is matter-of-fact. “Just take it.” I finally stick the food into my pocket – in the same jacket I've been wearing for weeks – and Avalon sets to work opening a big steel door in front of us. That's when I realize: this is it. The door rumbles open after she punches in a code of numbers, a light scans her palm, and probably much more that I didn't see. She turns back toward me, her brown eyes wide and kind. “You saved us,” she whispers. “I remember. Even your name… Eroyn rhymes with heroine. You can survive this. I know you can.” As the sun starts to shine through the gap in the door, it occurs to me that Avalon has been a perfect friend to me. She fought for my life in front of the Council, she gave me food, and she trusts me even when everyone else in Compound A wants me dead. She's one of the only perfectly good people I've ever met. It makes me think of Luna. Somewhere in the city, she's probably getting off a shift at work, going home to relax. Her life has probably started to seem more normal in the weeks after the bombing. I've spent so long in that cell hoping for her to be forgiven, and somehow it actually happened. It's nearly a miracle. Just as it’s a miracle that Avalon is here at the gate to send me off her with her endless smiles and positivity. I should be happy about both of these things. I have my life after all. That's more than half of Genesis has. A good person would be satisfied. Happy, even. A good person would accept her punishment and march into the daylight, ready to pay for her crimes. I'm not a good person. “I'm sorry,” I murmur as I shove Avalon as hard as I can against the wall. Her head cracks against the stone exactly the way I knew it would. She's temporarily stunned, but it's enough to give me the head start that I need. As she gathers her senses, I slip the pistol from her belt and take off at a dead run down the hallway. After a moment, I hear Avalon calling my name raggedly, sadly, but I don't stop. I must run past Tabby at some point, but she doesn't stop me. Nothing can.

The Dark & Dirty Anthology

Introduction by USA Today bestselling author Jenika Snow.
Four dangerously dark and delicious stories that will awaken your dirtiest fantasies...
NOT ONE NIGHT by D.C. Stone: One night of pleasure isn’t worth losing a lifetime of friendship. Or a reputation. Or a career. A spot in the social standing. That irritating innocence. Or the always-so-present pride. ... But it is worth losing her heart.
REDEEMER by Kastil Eavenshade: His family has the wealth and power to give him anything … except approval. Gianni Bencivenni marks his time in lines of cocaine. One lover is the same as the next within the walls of addiction—until his family puts a contract out on his life. On the run with the last man he wants to be in close quarters with, Gianni has to decide whether his yearning for acceptance and love can overpower his need for a drug-filled haze. Johnny “Butcher” Mascagni marks the black sins he commits. Death is his profession and ghosts of the dead haunt his waking moments. His penance for the dark life he’s led. Through all the men who have shared his bed, love is a promise that eludes him. When a former lover becomes his last assignment, Butcher must decide if he can set his demons free and open his heart again.
SLICK by Lea Bronsen: Ex-convict Luke has been fortunate enough to land a small job as a kitchen assistant, but he’s lonely and crippled by baggage from the past. CEO Roman Spencer also has his share of problems. It doesn’t help that a tough and hot-headed kitchen worker begins to plague his mind…and body. The more Luke runs into Roman, the more his dark fantasy turns into attraction. If he surrenders, his thug pride will effectively go down the drain.
ADDICTIONS by R. Brennan: Alexis Harrison is a mess. She’s managed to blow out her knee, lose her scholarship, and get hooked on pain killers. Now she’s playing mule to her dealer, who is her only friend, to support her ever increasing habit. If something doesn’t change soon, her addiction is going to cost Lexi more than just everything.

Q & A with JJ King!

Hello JJ! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?
Hi, thanks for having me! I love my characters, I don’t know anyone would voluntarily create characters they hate. You have to spend so much time with them, so even if they’re horrible, you have to love writing them.
The main character in Blood of Eden is Katherine LaFlamme, a smart, sexy redhead with an independent streak to rival her loyal side. Since I write a lot of different characters, like her three brothers, father, mother, friends, and lovers, there are a lot of dynamics in this book. I don’t know where those dynamics come from, dreams or my hindbrain, who knows! I just put my fingers on the keyboard and they appear. I’m what you call a pantser, which means that I write by the seat of my pants. I literally have no idea where my story is going to end up when I start writing it. I have ideas, general directions that I want to go in, but, inevitably, somewhere along the way, I write something that changes everything. It’s more exciting for me this way. I write because I want to know the ending as much as the reader does.
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?
It is! Blood of Eden is the first book in a paranormal romance trilogy called The Guardians. Book II is called My Brother’s Keeper and book III is going to be called Sins of the Father. I’ve also written two short stories that introduce the main character, the fierce Katherine LaFlamme, before the events of book I, and plan on writing two more.
Katherine is a wolf shifter and she’s lived over 300 years, so I started wondering about the different things she’d done, the different decades she’d lived through, to make her the woman she is in Blood of Eden. The short stories, which will be free by the way, will just be fun additions to Katherine’s story.
As for the series, it’s getting really exciting! Like I said above, I don’t know for certain how the whole thing will end, even though I’ve obviously been planning for it. At the end of My Brother’s Keeper, something happened. I had an epiphany and it changed book III altogether, which is why I’m having such a fun time writing it! And don’t worry, I’m not George R.R. Martin, book III will be out this year. I won’t make you wait forever!
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book? (Don’t need to use this one if it’s too long)
I’ve been reading paranormal romance for a long time now and I’ve always loved it, but the genre is filled with a lot of alpha males and the women who fall in love with their animalistic side. It got old. Then I picked up Kelly Armstrong’s Bitten and found a completely new character, an alpha female with looks and brains that rivaled any man. She was respected and treated as an equal, and I loved it. Katherine was born from Armstrong’s Elena, I think. The stories differ a lot, my ruling wolf structure is unique, but the strength of her character is reflected in my Katherine and the other women in the series.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?
I think we all put what we know into our novels. For me, that was making Katherine a redhead to start with. Can you guess what color my hair is? My friends actually laugh at how many red headed heroines I have in my stories.
In Blood of Eden, Katherine and the relationship she has with her family is what most reflects me as a person. That changes in My Brother’s Keeper, where my Mi’kmaq heritage and cultural past come into play a bit more. It’s also partially set in my home province of Newfoundland, which was really great to write.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
Well, I’m currently working on book III, Sins of the father. I love my titles, by the way. They’re biblical references that give hints about what the book will include, but in no way give away the mystery. Sins of the father hints at a lot, I think, especially if you’ve read up to the end of My Brother’s Keeper.
I’m hoping to publish Sins of the father in late summer or early fall. This is the finale, the big finish, so it has to be perfect.
Outside my paranormal world, I’m also working on a few things for Evernight Publishing. My first contemporary romance, Finding the right words book I of the Rocky Coast Romance series, was released in November of last year and now I’m working on a series of short stories for their Romance on the go line. Short stories for busy people with all the impact and romance of a full-length novel. I’m also working on a second book in the Rocky Coast Romance series.
Beyond all that, there are always a few things floating around in my brain that want to be written. Lately, I’ve been obsessing over Medusa. I love Greek mythology and have a vast knowledge on the topic, so it’s just a matter of time before I dive into a project in that area.
Anyway, thank you to the Written Butterfly for having me! It was a ton of fun! If anyone would like to get in touch, I’m very social of Facebook and I have a website with regular blog posts.

Q & A with CJ Bower!
Hello CJ! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…

Q) Can you give a fun or interesting fact about your book? This book is dedicated to three amazingly talented cake artists, Richard Ruskell, Elisa Strauss and Collette Peters, who have all competed on the Food Network Challenge cake decorating competition. Richard has competed eighteen times, and has won six gold medals. I have also included homage to a long-time racing broadcaster who lost his battle to cancer in April 2015, Steve Byrnes. His commentary always made the races fun to watch, because one never knew what interesting tidbit he’d discover or crazy antic he’d catch on camera.
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book?

Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind? I just try to clear my thoughts and focus on the voice of the character I’m trying to work with at that time. I also try to make my environment as distraction-free as I possibly can, though I do need to have some kind of noise in the background, whether it’s music or television.
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?I’m a pantser. The characters seem to just leap to life on the page as my fingers fly across the keyboard. However, I did have to do some planning as On Track with Icing evolved from a one-off into a three-book series. I created a mini bio for every character name that appears in the series. At last count there were 65 characters in the series, and about a third of them appear in all three books.Peri’s story was pretty much inspiration and writing as the story carried me away.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?Tons! My three main heroines, Jacqui, Peri and Cami, all took on several of my own characteristics, and Jacqui ended up with my medical history (though my story ends happier than hers). I spent 4 years working in my family’s bakery in Western Wisconsin, so they all have my work and creative experience. I’ve also infused personality traits of my best friends into several of the other characters. And I’ve told anyone who spends any length of time in my company that anything they say or do may be used as book fodder, which has seriously worried one of my aunts. J She’s concerned that I’ll include family squabbles among my characters.
Q) What are your upcoming projects? I’m currently working on book three of the series, Knotted Up with Passion, which is Camille’s story. I haven’t officially revealed who her love interest is yet, but there are small clues in the first two books. I have a positive feeling that the readers are going to love who she ends up with. Let’s just say that sparks have already flown, and the flame is threatening to burst into an inferno. I’m surprised their heat hasn’t made my laptop spontaneously combust! J I also have another major project in the works, which is at minimum a 5-year project. It involves 50 stories, one for each state in the country. Two stories have already been completed, and I’m working on three more. In addition to those projects, I’m also polishing up an erotic fantasy piece about a woman whose husband surprises her on their 10-year-anniversary by making one of her sexual fantasies come to life. It’s hotter than anything I’ve ever written before.

Merry Mistletoe Hop!

Another year is on our doorstep. Out goes 2016 and in comes the promise of something new, something better. New Year’s Eve builds our hope that the coming year will be different. That we’ll be different. Some will vow to finally lose weight. Some will vow to quit smoking, work harder, be a better person or spend more time with the kids. Resolutions are a tradition and yet breaking them is also a tradition. Some of us even make bets on when they’ll be broken.
I have decided against making a New Year Resolution. Yes, I could vow to lose the extra 20 pounds I’ve been holding onto. But I already know I have to eat right and start exercising. No, what inspires me now is, of course, my writing. I feel like my writing ability is growing with every book I write. I have so many ideas and I’m only limited by how fast I can or cannot type.
There is perhaps no other creative outlet that bares the writers soul quite like writing. Whether it’s writing poetry, songs or stories, the modern day bard has to tap into deep recesses of the soul. Writing stories can be a rollercoaster journey, full of emotional ups and downs as the writer tries to convey believable characters and situations. A writer pours their very essence into their creation, much like Dr. Frankenstein into his monster. Add a little electricity and pretty soon the author is shouting “It’s Alive!”.
I hope I get to shout those words a lot this coming year. Happy New Year, the birth of 2017. I raise my glass and toast to the promise of a new beginning. Happy writing. Happy reading.
