A Chat with Olivia R. Burton

Hello Olivia! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?
It’s probably all just a fluke, honestly. I knew I wanted to tackle the PPNW from a romance angle, but I didn’t want to do something that didn’t work for me. Instead of a strapping alpha male, I wanted a relatable, silly leading man who could make you laugh and tingle and who would, should you ever meet him in real life, take you on a fun date and make you feel like the prettiest, most fun partner he’s ever had. Because I tend toward farce in my writing, that character ended up as Finn, a goofy, sexy, loving and just a little bit cowardly Irishman who can’t quite get anything right.
Finn couldn’t be matched with someone equally as faulty, though, or nothing would ever get done. Plus, opposites attract and, since I had the idea of someone in a position of power working closely with the Prince of Hell himself, I paired Finn with Veruca. She’s generous, smart, competent, and takes no guff. They’re the perfect couple!
Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind?
I think listening to music is the closest thing to a habit I have when it comes to writing. Sometimes it’s certain albums, but sometimes it’s just any music, since it seems to get my brain chugging along and thinking up scenarios and plots or working through tangles in the stories I’m working on. Florence + The Machine is a huge help when I’m writing; her music really (har har) sings to me.
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
I am not a planner! I usually have an idea of a character but past that nothing is really formed until I’m actually writing. Same goes with plots and storylines. I’ll know as much as, “I want Finn and Veruca to have to put up with a greedy lady mobster!” and that’s about it. Sometimes I don’t even really have a picture in my head of the character until I’m reading over what I wrote and checking for typos. Then it’s like, “oh, I made her a redhead, interesting.”
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?
Inspiration is about as far as it goes. If I like the look of an actor or the idea of a story I heard it definitely creeps into my writing, but this series is all fiction. Even if it wasn’t about raising the dead and taking souls, I don’t think I’d put much of my life into it. I’m just not as interesting as anything I could come up with in my writing.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
I’m working on the third novel in this series, as well as an unrelated Urban Fantasy fluff novel about a girl who can control fire and who’s going after the person who murdered her best friend. I’ve also always got a dozen other projects that I dart into here and there, slap out a few hundred words, and then forget about for a few months. I’m rather ADD when it comes to writing unless I’m in the final stretch of a book.
Thanks so much for having me on the blog!
Preternatural Pacific Northwest Finn's a failure, at necromancy and life in general. "It's not my fault," he'd insist, looking deep into your eyes as he lifts your wallet. You'd catch him, of course. Because he's a failure.
Veruca, on the other hand, is competence personified. She has to be, working as a Reaper directly for the Prince of Hell. When Finn shows up in a stolen sport coat and uses Veruca as cover from his murderous mistress' glowering goons, she finds the one thing she may not be so good at: resisting Finn's handsome face.
Welcome to the Preternatural PNW, a world populated by demons, magic, and fairies. Meet Finn and Veruca, an atypical couple getting to know each other amongst rogue necromancers, criminal kingpins, and dishonest mercenaries.
Finn’s sexy as hell, eager to please—both in and out of the bedroom—and charmingly daft. Veruca’s alluring, intelligent, and always knows just what she wants. Once she sets her sights on Finn, she knows he’s it, and nothing’s gonna stand in her way.
Follow their adventures, feel their passion, and laugh at Finn’s antics in Rattle , the free read Throb , and the suspenseful sequel Metal , all out from Evernight Publishing!

Secrets of the Pharmacy...

Ever wonder about why it takes so long to process your prescriptions? Thought I'd share 10 insider tips about what it’s like working in a pharmacy.

2) There is not a database of every prescription insurance in the United States. No, the tech just can’t put in your social security number and magically pull up what insurance you have.
3) Medicaid is not transferable between state lines. For instance, if you have California Medicaid and travel to Nevada, I can’t bill the state of California for your prescriptions. You have to pay cash, and more than likely, you will not be compensated from the state of California. Same with an HMO insurance, like Kaiser. Kaiser is not in Nevada, therefore we have no contract with Kaiser and cannot bill them for your prescriptions.
4) Medicare is not part of Obamacare. I can’t tell you how many seniors, who fall in the coverage gap, blame Obama. No, he had nothing to do with you picking crappy Part D coverage. And for those who don’t know what the coverage gap is, it’s when the patient meets the limit of coverage then has to pay a deductible (for lack of a better term). Once that gap limit is reached, the insurance will resume. Sometimes that gap is a couple thousand dollars. There are Part D plans that don’t have gap coverage, so make sure you ask the right questions of the agent you’re buying coverage from.
5) I work for a very large pharmacy chain, which has about 3000 stores nationwide. If a prescription is filled for you in Kentucky, no it’s not going to be ready in Nevada. We do not fill every single prescription from every single pharmacy. We’ll be happy to transfer them, but we don’t have ESP and know that you’re on vacation.
6) It takes time to rebill the seven discount cards you’ve brought in.
7) Pharmacists are held accountable for the narcotic and controlled substance prescriptions that doctor’s write (at least in Nevada they are). There is a database that a patient is put into every time a CII narcotic is filled, so we can look online and see every doctor and pharmacy that you’ve been to. Target drugs, such as oxycodone, is scrutinized heavily. The reason it may take a few hours to fill #120 oxycodone and #60 morphine ER is because of paperwork. Many pharmacies give the patient a 24 hour turn-around with one day grace period from the last time filled. So if I tell you it’ll take two hours for your two narcotics and only 20 minutes for someone else’s antibiotic, it’s not because I don’t like you or are being prejudice. Believe me, we don’t like it either.
8) Just because a doctor gives you a coupon doesn't mean it's going to work. If you have any type of governmental job, or have insurance subsidized by the government, you can't use a coupon. There are many restrictions on coupons, for instance, the current Epi-pen coupon isn't good on patients 18 or younger. It's all in the fine print.
9) Just because a medication is prescription doesn’t mean your insurance has to cover it. Many new drugs are so expensive you’re copay is going to be astronomical. There are usually tier levels to insurances, for example, tier one drugs costs $10. Tier two can cost #20. Each drug is classified, per your insurance, into a tier level. Sometimes they don’t cover a drug at all (called non-formulary). And no, you’re doctor has no idea what your insurance is going to cover. And no, they don’t care.

I realize there are crappy pharmacies out there with crappy employees, but the majority of the people I’ve met in my 20 plus years in the healthcare field are just normal folks trying to help you out. At least, my co-workers and I am. If we don’t smile while we’re helping you, we’re not trying to be unfriendly. It’s usually because we’ve just been cussed out because of one thing or another, or it’s so busy all I can do is concentrate and focus on helping you to the best of my ability. I know you feel bad, or your baby is feeling bad, and I’ll get your medicine to you as fast as possible. But on busy days there might be twenty people in front of you that feel the exact same way. And just because there might not be anyone in the waiting room that doesn’t mean we’re not busy. We’re constantly having doctors fax and email us prescriptions all day. Oh, and just a reminder, when a doctor emails or faxes a prescription to us, it doesn’t come directly to us. It goes to a third party who verifies that it came from a doctor’s office before we get it. Otherwise, it’s against the law for you to fax us your prescription. Thanks for reading and I hope this blog has shed a little light on what it’s like to work on the other side of a pharmacy counter.

Hot Shot by Joanna Blake!

Firemen are celebrities in this town. My father, my brothers and all my cousins have put their lives on the line for the people of Brooklyn, NY. I've been in calendars and on TV. I have my pick of any woman I want. Anytime, anywhere. All I have to do is snap my fingers.
But Kennedy Stewart is the one that got away.
A shy girl from strict religious family, we had a hotter than hell fling. I was auctioned off for charity and her friends won me for her as a joke. A shy virgin should've been easy pickings for me. But I was the one who got swept off his feet.
We had a few weeks of bliss, even if we had to sneak around. I even said the 'L' word. The next thing I know she's visiting relatives and won't answer my calls. I swore off women – especially her. But she took a little surprise with her.
My baby.
Now she's back in the little bundle of joy bears a startling resemblance to yours truly. I can't be fooled and I can't be denied. I want what's mine.

Weekend Interview with M Pepper Langlinais
Hello M! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?
I think we’ve all had an experience of having a crush on someone who doesn’t return our feelings. It’s especially tough and awkward when that person is a friend. In the case of Cee and Marcus, I’ve more or less eliminated the chance of them getting together because Marcus is gay. I felt like I wanted friendship to be the key to this story. Romance will come later in the series.
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?
Yes, this is the first in a trilogy. I’m currently working on the second book.
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book?
When my oldest son (now 11) was about three years old, he got into his head that I could transform into a dragon. I think it had to do with his having seen the Disney animated feature Sleeping Beauty. Anyway, later on he convinced his younger sister and brother of this, and I used the idea of having an “inner dragon” as a jumping off point.
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
They develop as I write. Rand and Guin were originally just castoff mentions and then became key characters the more I wrote.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?
I don’t do it consciously, but whenever I look back at something I’ve written, I can usually see echoes of my real life experiences.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
The second book in the Changers series is called The Great Divide. I’m working on that and also on a Regency romance novel titled Brynnde. I also have a screenplay that’s on the brink of going into production, and a number of other ideas clamoring for my attention. I get requests for more Sherlock Holmes stories, and I’ve had a couple for more in the Peter Stoller series as well . . . I’ll be busy for a while!
Changers: Manifesting Destiny
Sixteen-year-old Cee has a hopeless crush on her best friend Marcus. Unfortunately for her, he’s gay. In the wake of Marcus’s older brother leaving home to join the Aerie, Marcus has become increasingly distant. Then, when Cee discovers she has a troublesome dragon named Livian living inside her things grow even more complicated.Marcus urges Cee to go to the Magi to have Livian removed, but the more used to Livian Cee becomes, the less certain she is about letting him go. Should she change her natural self for the crush who will never love her anyway?

EXCERPT
Heat spread through her. Cee’s face elongated, her arms extended, her nails formed into claws, and her feet became suddenly very heavy. The bony spires erupted from her shoulders, and Cee was compelled to double over to allow the wings to grow.
Throughout, Cee fought the urge to resist, though her instinct was to do just that. She wondered what she looked like, caught a glimpse of red scales, and realized her eyesight had become sharper. All the details of the trees around her impressed themselves upon her brain: the cracks and flakes in the bark, the saw-tooth edges of the leaves, and every little spot and insect thereupon.
How big was she? Cee realized she was at eye level with the middle of the trees. She looked down and saw her friends pushing themselves even harder against the trunks, making way for Cee’s—or Livian’s, she supposed—tail as it snaked by.
Yes, we’re very pretty, said Livian impatiently. But we don’t have time for showing off just now.
The massive wings began to move, slowly at first, gathering speed that put the force of the helicopter’s artificial wind to shame. Cee realized she had no control over what was happening. It was all Livian, and she was housed inside him, somehow, along for the ride.
It was equal parts thrilling and petrifying, bursting through the treetops and being free of gravity. Cee would have liked to spend more time experiencing it, but there was the helicopter, like a massive black bug, and Livian went right for it.

Author Arlie Adams Has Stopped by for a Visit!

Hello Arlie! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?
The two main characters in my book are Briallen Whitcombe and Zachary Wren.Briallen is a smash-up of two good friends - an eccentric artist and an outspoken free-spirit.
My hero is based on a conglomeration of men that I’ve known and dated (I won’t say more than that except not one was a millionaire at the time we were together!) Zachary wades through decisions by compartmentalizing his life, which I think is typical.
The emotional life of men has always intrigued me. If left to themselves, I don’t believe there would be a great deal of hand-wringing or introspection. But in order to get what they want (heh), they have to engage with the touchy-feelies, at least to some extent. As such, I hold that they are more complicated than women, although not one man of mt acquaintance would agree.
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?
“Colors of Rainfall” is Book One in The Wren Chronicles. There is a large cast of characters who continue through upcoming books and who give their point of view in various chapters.
Q) Can you give a fun or interesting fact about your book?
Most of the book is set in Seattle, WA. I lived there for five and a half years and loved everything about the city except the weather. The other location is a vacation spot on the Gulf of Mexico on the Alabama-Florida state line. I’ve spent many great holidays on the Gulf and incorporated my memories into those chapters.
Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind?
I once attended a book-signing by the late mystery author Robert B. Parker. He said that he wrote every day, no matter what, even if it was just a few pages that he might later discard. I find that I keep in touch with my creative side by following this practice.
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
The major characters are set. The secondary and cameo-appearance players pop in unexpectedly with very loud voices.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?
Every location is one in which I’ve lived or have visited. I try to include local landmarks, restaurants, and neighborhoods to add authenticity.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
The continuation of The Wren Chronicles and The Orchid Collection novellas. I just began to cogitate on a book set in the 1970’s. We’ll see…
BLURB
A smart, quirky artist meets a sexy but grim tycoon in a local bar. Fireworks explode during a one night stand.
Briallen Whitcombe is an artist thrown into the spotlight with a donation of a work to MoMA in NYC. The world clamors for her art, but she looks for an escape.
Zachary Wren heads a green initiatives company. A lonely boy evolved into a remote, pitiless businessman who lives to work.
Briallen and Zachary have one thing in common. A need to connect anonymously with hook-ups. They meet in a bar and explosive passion erupts. It doesn't ease the craving; it drives them to locate each other again. Can passion lead to love?
For Mature Readers over 18.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Writing romance stories is the latest chapter in my career history. I have worked in Manhattan's garment district, as a producer of talk radio programming at a New York City radio station, and as a marketing rep for a major airline. A return to culinary school and a series of restaurant jobs followed. Over the years I have called New York City, Denver, Seattle, Miami and Orlando my home.
In December 15, 2014, a new series of sexy romance novels were released in the Kindle Store at Amazon. Each book is part of "The Orchid Collection" and takes place in a property owned by the fictional Orchid Hotels International. Eight books in the series have been released, with more to follow. The books feature handsome heroes and memorable heroines.
I have also written a paranormal series, "The Other-Worldly". They are the stories of a Warlock and a Witch who meet in challenging circumstances. Together they are destined to rule the races of The Other Worldly, if only they can stop arguing long enough to do it!
My backlist includes two novellas published in September, 2013. "Sandpiper's Song" tells the story of a late night radio personality and her tumble (literally) into romance. "Lizzie's Beach House" is a tribute to my vacations in Westhampton, NY in my early twenties. Both novellas are available for download.

Q & A with Kat Mizera!
Hello Kat! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?I used to be a sports journalist who covered the NHL, so I just got creative with players I met and talked to and, of course, because I’m a romantic at heart, made them all hotties with hearts of gold. What fun would it be otherwise? I took the teamwork that professional athletes always show on the ice (or the field, or whatever) and brought it into their personal lives as well. When one of them is in trouble, all of them are there for each other. Loyalty is very important to me, both in real life and my writing.
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?This is the holiday novella for my Las Vegas Sidewinders series, which is my fictional NHL expansion team. Vegas is one of my favorite places in the world so all my books are at least loosely based there, although the characters travel and move around a bit. All the stories are stand-alone but the characters are recurring and there is a theme of friendship, loyalty and teamwork, both on and off the ice. The women aren’t all young and perfect either. One of my heroines is overweight, another was in an IED explosion in Afghanistan that left her with burns over 40% of her body and one of them is actually 40 and marries her 29-year-old boyfriend. I love having a diverse group of women as my heroines.
Q) Can you give a fun or interesting fact about your book?I dreamed up the idea of a hockey team in Las Vegas several years ago even though I only published in April 2016. Ironically, just two months after I published, it was announced that a new hockey team would be moving to Las Vegas! I don’t know if that’s good or bad, though…
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book? We’re big hockey fans in our house and I firmly believe you should write about things you feel passionately about. Hockey, rock and roll and love and all things I feel passionate about, so that’s what most of my books will be about, although I may branch out a little.
Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind? Not really. I try to write every day but I take days off to just read and clear my head.
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write? Both. I have an idea of who everyone is and what they’re going to do, but sometimes they develop personalities and start to tell me more about themselves as I write. The M/M I talk about later happened organically. Originally the story was supposed to be a menage but the two men had other ideas and they drove the direction they would go, not me.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?Since I write about a hockey team, and I worked in the field, I try to keep the professional parts of the story realistic, even though their personal lives are completely made up. As writers, I think we subconsciously people watch no matter what we do, so I think I draw in a little bit of everything I see and do.
Q) What are your upcoming projects? In 2017 I have all kinds of things planned. I have a short story in a March of Dimes charity anthology, I’m working on my own hockey-themed anthology, and a whole new series, the Inferno series. Inferno will be a spin-off from the Sidewinders, so you’ll see lots of familiar faces but it’s going to be a bit darker, kinkier and with some non-traditional relationships, although all with happy endings. I’ll be publishing my first M/M in that series, which I’m very excited about because I feel strongly in real life about letting go of hate and finding more love and acceptance in the world. It’s a book about true love and that hardships of being bisexual, as well as the inevitable hate. I hope people understand that it’s so much more than just a romance novel—it has a lot more depth.
INFO AND BUY LINKS
My first series is about a fictional NHL team, the Las Vegas Sidewinders. Each book focuses on one player… I try to create characters that are realistic, men that aren’t all cocky alphas, and women that aren’t 22 and perfect.
Book 1 in the series is FREE! myBook.to/KatMizeraDominicB&N: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/las-vegas-sidewinders-kat-mizera/1123544095?ean=2940152848427iBooks: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/las-vegas-sidewinders-dominic/id1094099796?mt=11https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/las-vegas-sidewinders-dominic
Book 2 in my series is Drake and Erin's story. She's a Marine who was badly scarred in an IED explosion in Afghanistan and he's a hunky hockey player looking for the right woman... her past is about to catch up to both of them and it’s up to Drake to figure out how to protect her.

Book 3 is about Karl and Kate. He’s a 6’4” goalie from Sweden who’s so hot women line up around the arena to get to him. Kate’s a PR whiz with a few extra pounds who can’t believe he’s in love with her. Karl likes it a little kinky in the bedroom, too, which ups the hot factor more than a little. Just when things are going well, his ex shows up and throws both of them into a tailspin—this is a story you cannot miss!

Toli’s book is Book 4, and after nearly 20 years with the same woman, he’s single again. Meeting Tessa is completely unplanned, but their week together burns hotter than either of them expected. The only problem is that she’s not officially divorced yet and her ex isn’t giving up that easily.

Book 5 is Zakk and Tiff's story. He’s never considered settling down until the widow of his late coach starts showing interest in him. As their friendship grows, so does something else, but someone else is determined to have her at all costs-even if it means making Zakk choose between the woman he loves and his freedom.

Interview with Nancy Barone!

Hello Nancy! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?Hi! To be honest, my characters just come to me in a sudden flash- as if they already existed somewhere in the world (because I’m sure they do) and I’ve just bumped into them! They have their own mind and take absolutely no notice of me!
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?Yes, this is Book 3 of The Husband Diet/ Amazing Erica series.First came The Husband Diet, published by Bookouture, then the sequel, My Big Fat Italian Break-Up and finally Romance, Rivals and Ravioli. It features Erica Cantelli’s journey to her dream life in Italy with her two children and that dream man (not her husband, BTW!)
Q) Can you give a fun or interesting fact about your book?Absolutely! My character, Erica Cantelli, is a whacky, fun-loving, ambitious and… ahem... curvy woman who will not surrender to being middle-aged and drab. She gets up to all sorts of antics and if it weren’t for her BGFF she’d be in a heck of a lot of trouble three quarters of the time! Plus, she has an issue with sexy Hollywood divas who show up on her doorstep trying to take her man away from her.
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book?Women. Women like us around the world who basically face the same challenges of raising a family, earning an income, trying to stay ahead of the game and sometimes even managing to not fall apart when one of those juggling balls shoots into outer-space! And oh- trying not to let go of yourself so you look like a gorilla in a stained T-shirt and cargo pants!
Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind?Yes and no. I write on a daily basis but in snatches of time, so on a good day when I don’t have to rush off to work, I’ll wake up, let the dogs out, fix myself some toast and a cup of coffee while watching the news. At that point I start to feel guilty so dive right into it. Then when I’m stuck I take the dogs for a walk on the beach and then come back for cakes and more coffee...
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?No- they are already living their own lives before they leap out of my laptop screen to grab me by the throat, telling me exactly what’s going to be happening and am I taking notes or not?!
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books? My heroines are mostly of Italian descent or living or moving to Italy. That is me. The love of food? Me again. But the whacky? Not so much. I’m a very staid middle-aged lady!
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
At the moment I’m working on edits for my Sicilian Lovers series soon to be published by Beachwalk Press and also working on a real tear-jerker (yes, sometimes I need to do that!). I’m also working on the prequel of The Husband Diet which is about Erica’s life before she met the men of her life, including her BGFF Paul Belhomme.
BLURB
Besides killing her, what do you do when your husband's old flame returns from the past, offering to give him what you can't?
Eight idyllic years (well, sort of) into their new life in Italy, plump and plain Erica Cantelli is now dealing with a middle-aged body while Julian appears to be as young as ever. As a matter of fact, her celebrity husband, bored with the Tuscan countryside and their tranquil life, now wants a new project- a baby. But at her age, and weighing what she weighs, can she pull it off? Does she even want to?
Her body just won't work with her. It's not going to happen, period, if you'll pardon the pun. Never mind that Julian's become an international sex symbol on the force of his new career while she's already plucking her gray hairs and packing it on. Never mind that her rival Genie Stacie is always hanging around him and that she wants him back with a vengeance. To make things worse, her two teenagers are smitten with the peroxide flake, wreaking havoc in all of their lives. With her simple, bucolic Italian life, flip-flops, sundresses and ravioli dishes, how can Erica compete with the gorgeous Hollywood diva who's half her age and a third her dress size? And when Genie Stacie shows up on their doorstep with the biggest temptation of all, will it be too much for Julian to resist?

Q & A with Katerina Ross!
Hello Katerina! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you about your book Tenderly Wicked . So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters?
I wanted to write controversial characters. Likeable, but flawed. So both men in my novel aren’t ideal. Max, an American expat in Moscow, finally plunges into exploring the world of BDSM after having repressed his desires for a long time. He’s nervous about his ineptness, and he makes a bunch of wrong decisions. One of my readers said she got very angry with him at some point. I was glad to hear that because you don’t get angry with someone who doesn’t seem to be real enough :) Vadim, Max’s Russian lover, is not a newbie in BDSM at all, but he has a history of abusive relationships, and it messed up his priorities a lot. Both Max and Vadim strive to make their relationship work, but there will be a lot of misunderstandings and angst.
Q) Can you give a fun or interesting fact about your book?
My native language is Russian, but I couldn’t publish such a book in my own country – there are no M/M romance publishers at all in here, so I had to write it in a foreign language. I’m very proud I coped with this task, but also a bit sad because I can’t share this with most people I know. It’s not easy coming out as a writer of BDSM romances :)
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books?
I tried to give as many details on living in Moscow is possible, so readers could wander the Moscow streets with my characters and see how fascinating my home city is.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
At the moment, I’m writing several M/M and M/M/F stories simultaneously. All of them are set in Russia.
Blurb
Max has always been interested in the wicked ways of BDSM. Now he has Vadim, an eager Russian sub willing to fulfill his most daring fantasies. But there’s one problem—Max isn’t quite ready to accept what's right in front of him. His deep-seated insecurities threaten to spoil what's growing into more than just a kinky pastime.
Excerpt
Vadim stood in the middle of the room, his gaze wandering in the direction of a double bed, and Max slowly circled him, eyeing his guest appreciatively in what he hoped to be a slightly unnerving manner—hands clasped easily behind his back, bare feet stepping soundlessly across a green carpet with thick, dense woolen pile, the only decoration in the studio, clearly bought by the owners in an attempt to make the rental apartment seem more homely. It felt soft and pleasantly ticklish.“Before we begin, tell me your safeword,” Max said at last, satisfied with his survey.Vadim winced, as if annoyed. “Is it really necessary?”Well that was a surprise. Max had always thought a safeword, slovo in Russian, was essential to every BDSM community. As far as he could tell from weeks of night chatting, there was no exception to this formality in Moscow. Why would Vadim be reluctant to use one?Max stopped directly in front of him, in his personal space, and let out a slow smile, not exactly threatening but still dangerous. At least he thought so. He’d been practicing it in the mirror for a long, long time. “I’m going to establish some ground rules here,” he said in a low voice. “When I give you an order, you obey me. Instantly. If you don’t, I’ll have to assume you misunderstand your position and think you have some control left. Then I’ll have to correct your flawed reasoning in the most visceral way possible. Is it clear enough?”“Yes,” Vadim whispered after a small pause.“Good.” Max unclasped his hands and traced down Vadim’s left cheek and then his throat with a finger. Vadim shivered under the touch. “Show me you can be obedient then. Give me your safeword.”“Red.” Vadim’s voice hitched when Max brought his thumb across the young man’s smoothly-shaved chin and touched his plush bottom lip.“That will do,” Max confirmed. A reasonable choice for playing with a stranger, an international safeword code. It was like traffic lights, easy to remember. Red for stop, yellow for a breather. “Ready to begin?”“I thought we had already,” Vadim murmured cheekily, eyes now closed halfway, shaded by long eyelashes, and lips wantonly parted as Max kept stroking his chin. But he gasped and his eyes fluttered open when Max squeezed it sharply, drawing him in for a quick harsh kiss that vaguely tasted of coffee and cigarettes and then let him go. “Now we have.”

About the Author Katerina Ross lives in Russia and works as a journalist. There are no M/M publishers in her country at all, and thus she wrote a hot and kinky M/M romance in English. It’s set in Moscow, so you’ll get to know the city she lives in.

Interview with Nancy Glynn
Hello, Nancy! Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you. So tell me…
Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters? In And Never Let Her Go, my MC, Erin, is strong and independent and has decided to live alone after realizing something about herself that she feels no man will want. She’s sadly mistaken and learns she has more to give than the broken part of her. Slade is a man racked with guilt because of his love for his late brother’s old girlfriend. He never gives up on her and goes after her after the tragic event of his brother’s suicide. Slade needs to bring her a letter written by his brother after he finds him. He’s a former Marine, which gives him the strength to do this. I love writing intense characters and giving them depth.
Q) Is this book part of a series? If so, can you tell us about it?
It is but as a standalone set in the same town (Town of Destiny). I write about different couples with intricate situations that’ll have you guessing to the end. I love adding suspense to my stories and getting the reader to turn the pages. I’m currently working on books 3 and 4 concurrently.
Q) Can you give a fun or interesting fact about your book? And Never Let Her Go is set in my hometown Plainfield and have my characters sit at the outdoor cafés in our downtown. I love to work in the crazy weather we have here in Illinois and have used storms to help my couple along, especially tornadoes.
Q) What gave you the inspiration for your book?Women or even men who don’t feel they’re good enough inspired this story. People who have deep flaws and conquer them, embracing their so-called brokenness and giving the gifts they do have. Erin and Slade conquer their flaws. The part where it’s an ex-boyfriend’s brother came to me because with old boyfriends, there was always that younger brother who had a crush on me, so wove that into my story, ha!
Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind? Not really. I just open my Word document and start writing. I’ve burned candles and cut my nails because I hate typing with nails, but mostly just see my story and get lost. I forget all time and space when I’m in that zone. Just ask my husband and kids!
Q) Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?I really don’t plan. A story will just come to me and I write that first scene. I write a soft outline to choose my characters’ names, ages, and backgrounds so I know who they are, but that’s it. The story I’m writing now I honestly feel is writing itself. I’m trying to keep up as fast as I can with the scenes that pour into my mind. I have no idea how it’ll end, but know it’ll be a happy ending and complete without any continuation.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books? The town is my real hometown, but the characters are fictional. In my recent release, And Never Say Goodbye, it is based on my husband’s job as an organ recovery coordinator. It’s based on his organization and how the process unfolds. He surgically removes the organs, so I needed his help for all the OR portions, so that book has a lot of factual information. There are sad donor stories in there that would happen in real life. Other than that, I think my characters are a mixture of me and people I know.
Q) What are your upcoming projects? I’m currently working on the 3rd book, And Never Give Up Hope, and the 4th, And Never Close Your Heart, two very emotional stories consistent with my other two books. I like to go for the emotional gut of the reader plus give an intense love story with some suspenseful secrets. I’m hoping to get them published January/February. I believe fans of my Town of Destiny Serieswill be pleased with these new stories and will love my new couples, at least I hope!
