No Negative Narrative
Galatians 5:1 – Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Do you know you are expensive? You were bought with a price. Do not become the bondservant of man. The Lord has called you to invade darkness, do the impossible and demonstrate His power. Beware the motive of your heart as you do those things. Comparison is dangerous. We are all called to do fight a good fight yet remain who we are. Don’t try to be someone else. It will be a heavy burden. Be you and refuse to be like someone else.
Declaration: I’m original. I am highly favored. I’m not an orphan, but a child of the Most High God. I serve My Father.
NO NEGATIVE NARRATIVEThis is a year of gold – golden opportunities and financial blessing. With this said, know this: The negative narrative does not work for you in 2023. Whatever you do, do not plug into the negative narrative.
Listen, you’re always going to have haters. You’re always going to have somebody saying something bad about you. That’s normal. It just is. If you have people who don’t like what you do or how you do it, say, “situation normal.”
What is also normal is for God Almighty to bless people who are bound and determined to continue with their Godly assignments in the midst of a hostile environment. Hallelujah. The prophets of the Old Testament were hated and persecuted because they relayed messages from God the people didn’t like. In these last days, people aren’t going to like us much.
Do you know the reason why the Holy Spirit is called The Comforter? It’s because you’re going to need Him to be your Comforter if you’re going to stick with God during times of trouble – aka this day we’re living in. He doesn’t call Jack Daniels the Comforter. He calls the Holy Spirit The Comforter because His comfort is real.
As the days grow darker and darker, you need to have a different Spirit. You need to have something very, very different about you and that “different” is the Holy Spirit living in you.
Speak life and not death. The world needs life. Drop-dead sold-out Jesus freaks like you and I walk and talk differently. We have hope and there is no hope in a negative narrative.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. – Ephesians 4:29

Do You Trust Me?
Pastor Leanna Brewer
OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX
Trust, faith and love have a lot in common. You have to be willing to be vulnerable to experience and to walk in them.
Trust–In the Bible “trust” literally means ‘a bold, confident, sure security.’
It means you believe it!
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Trust is not exactly the same as having faith, which is the gift of God:
Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”
So, trusting is what we do because of the faith we have been given. Trust means we believe in the promises of God in all circumstances, even in those where the evidence seems to be to the contrary.
2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Hebrews 11 is a good example of this, the Hall of Fame of Faith.
Faith–is simply hearing God speak and having the courage and wisdom to believe Him.
No matter what!
It is a gift from God Himself to us. It goes beyond our natural ability to believe or to trust.
Love-
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (CJB) – Love is patient and kind, not jealous, not boastful,5 not proud, rude or selfish, not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not gloat over other people’s sins but takes its delight in the truth. 7 Love always bears up, always trusts, always hopes, always endures. 8 Love never ends;
Getting back to trust:
You all probably know the story in scripture where the Lord ask Peter, “Do you love me?”
John 21:15-17Jesus Restores Peter
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep”
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.”
I had my own experience like this , but the Lord asked me do you trust Me?
Psalm 25:20 – Keep my soul, and deliver me; Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.
Psalm 56:3 – Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.
Psalm 56:11 – In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
The virtuous wife
Proverbs 31:10-12 – Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.
Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God John 14:24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

Added Unto You
Mark 4:30 – Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it?”
Why did Jesus talk about the Kingdom in parables? Why does He speak to us in prophetic phrases and dreams? The answer is relationship. He so desires to spend time with you. Search out His heart and be a friend of God. He is worth it!
Declaration: I love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my soul and with all my mind.
ADDED UNTO YOUDo not approach God as though you are a survivor. Why? Because the survivor mentality is a poverty mentality and surviving kills seeking.
But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. – Deuteronomy 4:29
Newsflash! There are over 100 verses in the Bible that tell you to seek God. Every one of them says if you seek, you will be rewarded. If you’re all about just surviving the moment, you’re not going to be about stepping out of your comfort zone.
When you start seeking, man, you start leaving what’s comfortable behind you. You leave what’s familiar behind you and find yourself in dangerous places. A survivor’s mentality stops you in your tracks from seeking. That’s exactly what Jesus is addressing in Matthew 6.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? – Matthew 6:25-26
Survival mode is the kryptonite to seeking because it keeps you immobilized in fear and worry. Hear me on this: You are not a survivor! You are an overcomer. You are an overcomer because you are a seeker.
Pay attention to spiritual things. Pay attention to Kingdom things and be sure you have a great priority to see the Kingdom come in your life and the lives of those around you. You’ve gotta seek the Kingdom and God’s righteousness in order to be “added unto” or blessed. and that makes you an overcomer!

Don’t Die Twice!
Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
There is a right way to handle yourself in situations that are far from perfect. There is a right way to conduct yourself with people who are part of chaos. Don’t lose your mind when things do not go the way you want them to. You can have real peace when you remember it is all about the perfect will of the Father.
Declaration: My words are powerful and they bring life. I speak with love and prophesy for the empowerment, healing and comfort of others.
DON’T DIE TWICEI’ve got some pretty sobering news for you: you only live once, but it’s possible to die twice.
This speaks of the second death for the people who are not found in the Book of Life. Let me tell you what this test is about. This test is about are you holy or are you not holy.
Every single one of us has sinned. Every single one of us have been major malfunctions and have fallen short of the glory of God. But I’ve got great news: Jesus Christ left heaven, became a man and He passed the test.
Jesus lived 33 years as a human being and, despite setting His deity aside and being 100 percent human, He never sinned. Then, are you ready for this? He offers His grade to us.
Did you hear that? Despite the mess you and I are, He offers His A+ of holiness to us.
There should only be one name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and it should only be “Lamb.” It’s His book. The Bible says He’s the only One worthy to open it and His name is the only one worthy to be in it except for those who He has given His grade to.
Are you in His book? Are you holy because you’ve accepted the offer of His passing grade? Don’t die twice. Dying once is enough – especially when it leads to eternal life.
For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son that whosever believes in Him shall have eternal life. – John 3:16

Out of Captivity
John 4:28 – The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men…
The Lord changed this woman’s history into a testimony because He is good and works all things for our good. Everyone has a history; where they came from and what they’ve done. But do you know your testimony? Your testimony is who you say Jesus is to you and who you are to Him. Your testimony is so important and it’s uniquely yours!
Declaration: King Jesus is my ________! And I’m His ________!
OUT OF CAPTIVITYBaptism is a big deal, I promise you, it is. And just like everything else we do as Christians, we have a tendency to downplay things so we don’t seem too “churchy” or weird. Baptism shouldn’t be one of those things.
Baptism is not about when you go into the water. It’s about when you come out. Let’s unpack this.
Baptism is a picture of the Hebrew people leaving the bondage of Egypt. They were leaving behind that thing that owed them. God opened the Red Sea for them to walk across dry land to their Promised Land.
When Pharaoh’s armies chased them into the water, God said, “Nope. Not today you devil from hell. He made those waters close up and destroy the enemy while His people were safe on the other side – free from their captivity.
That’s what you’re doing in baptism. Leaving that thing that owns you behind. Debt, despair, depression, bad relationships, addiction, fear, an ungodly lifestyle – whatever you want to bury at the bottom of the sea.
Pray and think about what you’re going to leave in that water. Ask God how you can meet Him in that place and how the heavens can be opened unto you. Just like Jesus, ask how you can hear Him speak and how the Spirit of the Lord can descend on you like a dove as you come up out of the water.
And here’s one last thing to think about: not only did the Red Sea keep the Egyptians from going after God’s people, the Red Sea kept God’s people from going back into slavery. Sometimes, the devil you know looks better than the angel you don’t. Don’t run back to that mess!
Don’t make baptism nominal. Don’t make it about a ritual because it’s so much bigger than that. Baptism is about something Jesus Christ has offered you and you need to go all the way with it.
Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity… – Jeremiah 20:12-14

The Blood Speaks
Daniel 4:27 – “Therefore, O king, let my advice be acceptable to you; break off your sins by being righteous, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your prosperity.”
Want a happy family? Take Daniel’s advice. Live a life of righteousness in your home. When the doors are closed and no one is around, be the person of holiness. When you think your kids are not watching or too young to really know, they are aware and not fooled. They will follow where you lead them. Serving together as a family and saying “yes” to those in need even when it’s not convenient will break the iniquities of selfishness in your lives.
Declaration: I am a supernatural giver and I find joy in generosity. I will teach my children through example.
THE BLOOD SPEAKSI’m absolutely amazed that one of the things you can do today is find your identity according to your flesh. You’ve seen the DNA kits and heritage services, right? If you haven’t, you’ve either been under a rock or too occupied with Game of Thrones to notice. They’re everywhere!
One of the things folks are figuring out is that we’re all a bunch of “Heinz 57” – 57 ingredients. It’s absolutely shocking to me how folks will change their life because they found out they’re 5 percent Romanian. “Pastor Troy, I’m eating goulash every day for the rest of my life. It’s my heritage!”
That’s how geared we are to be identified by our own flesh.
Your flesh has the blood of Abel in it and that brother was a murderer. However, your spirit has the blood of Jesus in it and the blood of Jesus is not only superior, it actually speaks to your identity, purpose and destiny.
…to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. – Hebrews 12:23-24
It’s interesting to me that this passage speaks about the “firstborn registered in heaven.” That’s you and me once we get saved. We’re those “spirits of men made perfect” by Jesus the mediator’s blood. That’s because His shed blood is now our supernatural blood – our DNA if you will.
Now, I’m not against you finding out your ethnicity and celebrating it. But I want to tell you something: your identity in Christ is a supernatural identity and it doesn’t come from your forefathers. It comes from your heavenly Father. That’s what you’re supposed to live out.
What is the blood of Jesus speaking through you? This is a good day to celebrate your supernatural DNA!

The Kryptonite of Seeking
Ephesians 4:26 – “Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath…”
When people are angry, they are harboring deep pain. Hurt, disappointment, and rejection are all part of this world. But Jesus said, “I have overcome the world.” Hallelujah! We don’t have to react to the things of this world as everyone else does. Have peace in the middle of chaos and pain. You are created to be an overcomer just like Jesus.
Declaration: I conquer my feelings and I respond, not react.
THE KRYPTONITE OF SEEKINGOffense will destroy you. It will keep you rooted in one spot and once you’re not moving, you’re an easy target for the enemy. Listen to me on this. Offense will drain you of all desire for forward progression.
You have to get past the “I don’t wanna’s” of life. The “I don’t wanna’s” are apathy and apathy kills you. Apathy is the absence or suppression of passion. It’s the part of you that says, “I better not get too fired up about that because I might get disappointed.”
So your value for your comfort is greater than being passionate about Jesus. You have to change your values. Your balance is messed up and the Bible says that God doesn’t like false balance.
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. – Proverbs 11:1
A big part of dealing with your “I don’t wanna’s” is dealing with the part of you that simply wants to make it through the moment. That’s the survival mentality. That’s actually what Jesus is addressing when He’s talking to everybody in Matthew 6:25-34.
Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? – Matthew 6:30
God’s not saying to be irresponsible and just wait for your needs to magically show up on your doorstep. You still have to go to work. God is saying, “Do not approach me as though you are a survivor. The survivor mentality is a poverty mentality.” God doesn’t think like a poor man. Surviving is the kryptonite of seeking and seeking is necessary for finding.
Sick of apathy? Tired of being a survivor? Get up! Refuse to be offended and go after Jesus is a crazy cool way. You’ll never be disappointed.

A Different Spirit
Mark 4:25 – “For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
You are in charge of stewarding what the Lord has given you. We have all been given a measure. Being a good steward means living a life that glorifies King Jesus. How much of Heaven invades earth depends on you. Take the opportunity to enlarge God’s territory right where you are; in your home, work, church and beyond.
Declaration: I’m a loyal to Jesus. I’m a good and faithful steward of His gifts and callings on my life.
A DIFFERENT SPIRITYou and I need to have a different Spirit. As this world is losing its mind, we need to have something very, very different about us.
Because you’re not walking and talking like the world and drinking the cool-aide the world is serving up, you need to know your walk is going to be controversial.
Folks are not going to like it. People who say they hate slavery will hate you for saving people out of slavery. People who say they care about the hungry and the homeless will try to talk you out of feeding and helping those very people. How does that work?
In their theater of drama, it just works. People who don’t like truth compensate. They exchange truth for drama.
In this day of instability, you need to have a stability that comes from the Presence of the Lord no matter what it is you’re working through. Today, I want to help you through that.
Dealing with controversy means learning where to draw a line and where do you not draw a line. A line tells you and the world where you stand and where do you not. Do not stand with the mob. Do not stand in a dramatic place.
Stand with Jesus. Have a different spirit and stand up for Truth – it’s also the Way and the Life! Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. – 1 Corinthians 16:13

The Frosting on Top
Deuteronomy 4:24 – For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Are you willing to be vulnerable and intimate with the Lord? It takes trust. As you step into that place with Him, it will inspire you to go even deeper. It’s His desire for you and desires all of you. He will reveal secrets to you, speak to you as a friend, and burn in you with passion.
Declaration: I’m going after God. I’m not holding anything back from King Jesus.
THE FROSTING ON TOPToday, I’ll start with the bad news: There’s going to be a test on your life. Now, here’s the good news: God Almighty provided the Bible to let you know exactly what’s going to be on the test so you can pass.
There are actually two tests and a lot of people don’t know that. A lot of people just think in terms of the one test – the test to see if you’re holy. That’s the Great White Throne Judgment found in Revelation 20.
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20:11-15
That test is the qualifier for eternity in heaven with King Jesus. If you’re not saved, your name is not in the Lamb’s Book of Life, so here’s some advice for you: get yourself saved.
If you’re a Christian and you pass that test, there’s another test you need to know about. This test is to see if you served. It is called the Judgment Seat of Christ. This test is not about judgment. It’s about rewards.
God is such a loving God, He doesn’t just want you to be in Heaven with Him for eternity, He wants to honor you while you’re there. Why? Because it’s His good pleasure. It makes Him happy.
It makes Him happy the same way it makes a mama happy to give her kids credit for making the cake when they only put the frosting on top. So, make your Father God happy today. Do something He can applaud you for. Serve somebody.

THEY CALL ME “BANDAID” – When Traumatic Things Are No Big Deal
Sunday, April 22, 2023
Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX
Jesus and the 12 disciples had just crossed the big lake called Galilee. They had weathered the storm. Jesus had literally walked on water and called Peter out of the boat and invited him to walk on the water with Him. They came to a place Matthew calls Gennesaret.
It’s the very place where the miracle of “cast your nets to the other side” happened (Luke chapter 5).
This is place where the first disciples were called and it’s where their boat landed after this terrible storm. So, it’s GAME ON for the disciples and they are ON FIRE!!!!
At the end of Matthew 14, it says as many as touched King Jesus got healed.
Matthew15:1-2 – Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”
Here, an official religious delegation came way up north to visit Jesus. They were coming to investigate. They are bewildered at the miracles. They are scared of how the people are coming to him and they are quickly outraged that He doesn’t do things they way they do things. You’re a different denomination!!!!!The thing they focus on is a tradition–a custom or a cultural way that they do things–and of all the silly things they focus on, they’re questioning if they are washing their hands before they eat! Many ancient Jews took this tradition of the elders very seriously. “The Jewish Rabbi Jose saith, He sinneth as much who eateth with unwashen hands, as he that lieth with a harlot.”DO NOT CANONIZE YOUR CULTURE
Matthew 15:3 – He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?”
He answers their question with a question.
Matthew – Jesus asked 109 questions
Mark – Jesus asked 68 questions
Luke – Jesus asked 107 questions
John – Jesus asked 55 questions
Jesus asked a total of 339 questions
“Just recently this thought occurred to me: All of the Trinity (God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit) were involved in the Creation. Therefore Jesus, who created the brain, understands exactly how it works. When he asks a question, he is actually leveraging the design of the brain he created! He knew that asking questions was a far more effective way to connect with people, to engage people, to help them discover truth, to help them come to their own conclusions, and to make their own decisions than it ever would be to tell them what to do!” – Bob Teil leadingwithquestions.com
Offense is a trap. Like a hose that is tied in a knot, it stops the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Offense is a snare, an occasion to fall or stumble–a stumbling block. Offense is a tool of entrapment the enemy uses on believers to bring them into captivity.
TO BE OFFENDED AT GOD MAKES YOU UNABLE TO RECEIVE FROM GOD.
Jesus said, “Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”
Yet we learn from over a dozen Scriptures they were offended because of Him. What was the net result? They were unable to receive! The spirit of offense works to keep people from receiving salvation, healing, and miracles from the Spirit of God.
It’s recorded in Mark 6:2-3 that “they were offended at Him.”
A SIGN OF THE LAST DAYS
Matthew 24:10 – “And then shall many (not just a few, but many) be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.”
LATER ON IN THEIR SAME CHAPTER, JESUS LEAVES THESE OFFENDED JOKERS AND TRAVELS A LONG WAY TO SHOW HIS DISCIPLES WHAT HE IS WILLING TO DO TO BE AN UN-OFFENDABLE PERSON.
The great faith the woman in Matthew 15 has is that she will not be offended at God.
SHE REFUSES TO BELIEVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN JESUS IS THE ANSWER
Matthew 15:21-28 – Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
That’s more than 50 miles.
“Let us always plow to the very end of the field, and serve our day and generation to the extreme limits of our sphere.” (Spurgeon)
It was unlikely for Jesus to go to the region of Tyre and Sidon. “At that time, or not much later, Josephus could write: ‘Of the Phoenicians, the Tyrians have the most ill-feeling toward us.’” (Barclay)
22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
“Matthew’s use of the old term ‘Canaanite’ shows that he cannot forget her ancestry: now a descendant of Israel’s ancient enemies comes to the Jewish Messiah for blessing.” (Carson)
23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”
24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
He pointing out a cage, but it is not her cage. It’s the cage of everyone around her.
She pressed through every offense.
Like I said before, offense is a trap. And like a hose tied in a knot, it stops the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
The definition of the word offend is — a trap stick, referring to the part of the trap to which the bait is attached .
Again, it is a snare, an occasion to fall or stumble, or a stumbling block. Offense is a tool of entrapment the enemy uses on believers to bring them into captivity.
